From what's been announced so far it has a retina display that has 1 million more pixels than a 1080p HDTV. A5X quad-core processor that is twice as fast as a Tegra 3. Full 1080p video recording. Voice dictation.

Yes, they announced pre-orders today. Not sure when that's going live though

EDIT - they are currently displaying some of the new higher res content right now. Autodesk, Flight simulators, etc.

Now they are demo-ing a new Infinity Blade. Damn! Its just as impressive as when the iPhone went to the Retina Display.

Now maybe I'll get the Ipad2 if the price drops considerably. That's what I did with my iphone. When the 4S came out the price for the 4 dropped to pocket change prices so I got one.

benchmark comparisons for the processor? I mean legit ones, anything from a manufacture is always suspect.

It will probably be a little bit before we get those. They are still presenting it now. Hoping some of the attendees will get to demo them today so we can get accurate specs.

that would be nice. I wont buy one as i use and like android. but a decent leap in processing tech would be cool. That being said my first android phone was clocked faster then my first desktop computer(my 2009 motorola droid1). so :sh

They are now demo-ing the new iPhoto on the iPad. The iPad supports up to 19 megapixel photos. They are currently editing a 12 megapixel photo shot with a Nikon D300S

EDIT - they already demoed the other new iLife apps which received minor tweaks.

I just tried to order online, it isn't ready. They're updating right now, I got to see prices, etc.
I also tried calling, they won't even answer because of the call volume. :)

It is confirmed, Apple is calling this "The new iPad". Not sure that was the smartest move but meh...

The presentation is over now and the new iPad info page is up on the Apple site. Store is still down though.

I "gave" my wife the iPad 2 for Christmas with the caveat that I was waiting until now to get it... she wanted to save the money and didn't need it right away so she was totally fine with it. We are having our 2nd kid in a couple weeks and she wanted an iPad by then so our 3 and 1/2 year old daughter can do kids apps on it. I have no desire to get the new iPad because my daughter won't know the difference!?! LOL

So now I will wait another week to see how much of a sale price other retailers will sell the iPad 2 for... I'm hoping for $299 - $349 for the 16GB :)

I told my family to wait till March for the new iPad. They all listen to me and are now happy that they waited. I skipped iPad 2 because it was already known they were going to improve the display and processor. I will just go and pick one up next week. I wonder if they are doing credit on a iPhone4 trade in?

ARRR MAC users i once again ask myself why you get so excited over something thats only a little better than the last but will cost about 3x the price.

Not saying the new stuff is better but the original chunky iphone and huge ipad are so much better IMHO they feel heavy and chunky and like they might be worth some of the thousands of pounds you pay for them.

I can only answer for myself (I use Apple and non-apple products), but to me the new iPad is significantly better than the iPad 2 (which I own) rather than just "a little better". Plus, it is the exact same price. I like having the best technology, whether it be Apple or another company, so I upgrade every year. I sell my old technology on eBay and usually only have to shell out $40-50 for the new product. Hell last year I actually MADE money by upgrading to the new iPhone 4S.

To each their own I guess, but I like having new and updated technology.

I would like to get one, but $499 for 16GB of space is crazy to me. If they had the 32 for that price I would probably jump on it. Not even my music would fit on the 16GB.

I think I'm gonna go with the 32 or 64GB this time, but only because of the camera and HD video. I think the extra space will be handy. I've never filled 16Gb on my ipad 1, but I didn't have a camera or video.
I might as well go for the 64, I suppose.

I will be going at least 32, probably 64. With a 2.5 year old, having movies on the iPad can be a lifesaver. I'm tapped out on my 16g iPad1.

I'm with ya having a 3 yr old... what all sources do you get your movies? Where do you recommend for kids movies?

I don't remember reading, but can you transfer your own media to the iPad, or does it have to come from itunes or icloud etc?

I transfer my own media all the time. Just did a bunch of movies so i could have something to watch on the plane. Just used Itunes. To rip the movies, i used Handbrake which did a really good job.

Current macs have some sexy hardware, but all the fancy hardware in the world couldn't convince me to go back to IOS and the walled garden [prison]. Unlike a macbook or mac pro I can't just format and run a decent OS. Transformer prime for me. :2
