Tatuaje stogies
What's the deal with them? I see many folks raving about them and doing some research on the internet, all I see is limited edition this and limited release that, what's so special about these smokes?
I have yet to see any on the devil's site and I see some on CI. I love full bodied smokes and recently I fell in love with both 601 blue and red. Which Tatuaje would you recommend? And what makes these smokes so special anyway? |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Nothing extra special about them, other than some people really liking them.... They make a bunch of regular production lines.
Been burning through Brown Label Regios lately. |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
A simple search of Tatuaje here on CA will yield more than enough material for you to read up on.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
I love the Red label and the Brown label Tats along with the LE's. These are made for Pete By Don Pepin and the tobacco's that are used just have fabulous flavor IMHO. Especially after they get some age on them, but they are real good ROTT!
Now remember Pete does the blending and Pepin does the rolling. Did not want you to think that Pete does nothing cuz that's the farthest from the truth. Most if not all the tobacco's are from Nicaragua. Not Honduras or The Dominican. Just my humble opinion. |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
They're well marketed, I don't find them special, and I really can't recommend any because I've never found one I like.
Tats have a signature flavor that's black peppery and borderline black licorice (to me) and it just plain turns me off. A few years ago I made it a point to try just about everything Pete put out in hopes I'd find something I liked, but didn't have any luck. Rather than struggling on, I just abandoned them. I'm definately in the minority, most guys really love that "signature flavor". I'm guessing that the Tat Noella is going to be your best bet for your first try. Guys really seem to enjoy them and the price is right. You won't find them on cbid because they sell so well. There's no old stock that needs moving. |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Actually, there's 3 pages of tats on c-bid. Just type tatuaje in the search window.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Yeah there's plenty on cbid but I try to stay away from that place.. it's bad for my wallet. :D
I'll keep an eye out for a multi sampler pack if I can find them I guess and try some different ones. |

Re: Tatuaje stogies
Tat red is one of my go to's. You can pick up a box on cbid for less than a hundo. In my opinion it is a great cigar (especially the retrohale). CI used to offer a five cigar sampler of garcias blends, there was a tat red (also known as Havana VI) along with a san cristobal (which I think tastes similar to the tat), a cuban classic and a couple of other sticks. Worth checking out.

Re: Tatuaje stogies
It took me almost three years to start enjoying Tatuajes. I only enjoy a handful of them, but when they are on...they are truly a treat. :D And I love that black pepper flavor. :dr :dr
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Haven't had one I didn't like; I like my pepper too.

I am currently in love with the Tat Havana VI Nobles :dr , I won a 5 pack last week on the Demon sight for $18.06 (and blew thru them) then another 5 pack on Monday for $22.

Re: Tatuaje stogies
Worth every penny in my opinion. EricF is our resident Tat whore!

He works for Tats.

Re: Tatuaje stogies
The red lable tats are still my favorite, and the cheapest. Well, except for the Anarchy, man, I love that smoke. But start with the red, they are a dam fine smoke and would probabaly fit right in your flavor profile. Not really a full bodied smoke, but full of great flavor.

They have a nice sampler pack. |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Holy crap those are expensive.. big game sampler pack 7 smokes for $90?!?! Wha.... :O
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
And since you're from Ohio they charge sales tax too
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
LOL That big game sampler pack is that expensive becuase those cigars are limited as well.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
A fiver of Petit Tatuajes will run you $16, and it will answer all your questions. Or go a little bolder and get 5 Noellas for $38.
Or just pick up one of each at your local B&M. It's an inexpensive introduction to the brand. Before you know it you'll be buying up Cojonus 2003s and 2006s. |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Cojonus 2006 = closest to a monte cuban taste profile and complexity. IMO.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Personally I'm a huge fan of the black petite lanceros. A 30-45 min smoke with great punch. Just picked up my second box @ around $200.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Just stay away from any "limited" or special lines and stick to the basic brown and red labels. Personally, I also like the Cabaiguan lines and the Fausto line occasionally too.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
I've only had the red label but I have a few others in the humi, EricF gave me a boatload of them but I haven't lit any up yet.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
I quess I'm one of those people who have researched them. The one that intriques me is the Havana VI. I havn't found any around here. I am obsessed with trying one of these. Just from what I've read.
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
I got the Miami Regios on cbid. Nothing great in my opinion but they are not that well rested. I am leaving them for a few months and seeing if they improve. I hope so as I bought into the hype and bought them thinking they were the s#@t. They still were not THAT cheap (6$/cigar on this apparently amazing deal).

Re: Tatuaje stogies
smoke white and brown label few times... non impress me much...

The Havana VIs are available for decent prices on Cigarmonster from time to time.
11AM and 11PM are when the full day's choices are shown. Friday at 6 PM (usually) is when most of the week's choices are shown. |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Be patient my friend.....just sayin' :sl
Also check out www.smokeinn.com for the exclusive Tat Anarchy only $50 a 5er |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
I luv almost all Tats. Here are some of the ones I smoke regularly.
La Casita Criolla Serie P Sumatra TAA LE [one of my all time favorites] :dr:dr Wolfman [getting better with time...] :dr |

I am saving the Wolfman for Halloween 2012! I enjoy many Tats, definitley a lot of hype but they do make a lot of really good stuff. I know many people do not like the Ambos Mundos but I found a 5r for $10 on cbid and figured it was worth a shot! |
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Sadly my favorite tats I've had I can't find anymore :(. The cojonu 0606 is pretty darn good though!
|
Re: Tatuaje stogies
Lots of great input, thanks everyone.
I just realized I got what appears to be a Tatuaje Havana VI (far right) in a trade with HollywoodQ: http://i.imgur.com/wzZSr.jpg Will smoke it later today and let you know how it went. |

DC - Hollywood did you good; that is a mighty fine selection full of my favorites.
Undercrown, Tatuaje, LFD, and Olivas are all regulars of mine and I've only heard great things about the Old Henry, Cains, and EPC. :tu |

I've only tried the normal releases, but EricF did the same for me only I started smoking when recieved; coudldn't wait to light up some LEs I'd probably never get to try otherwise. I spread them out over a few weekends and what a great few months of cigar smoking those were. Found myself shopping for a 50box of Tatuaje Petit Cazadores shortly after. EricF is THE man. :tu:tu:tu |

Bought a L’Espirit de Vérité 2009 today. Will let it sit a few days before diving in though. Is the difference between this and the La Vérité 2009 just the size? This one is a robusto.

It is so tempting though, I believe Pete Johnson said it was the best cigar he has made. They are different actually, the one I was talking about is the La Verite 2009 (7 x 47). Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano Binder: La Estrella Habano Criolla 98 Filler Nicaraguan Habano (45 percent), Criollo 98 (40 percent), Pele D'Oro (15 percent) The one you mentioned is similar: L'Esprit de Verite 2009 (5 x 50) Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano Binder: La Estrella Habano Criolla 98 Filler Nicaraguan Habano (50 percent), Criollo 98 (40 percent), Pele D'Oro (10 percent) |
