And somehow it was world news interrupting TV and all, I really thought someone had been shot or Iran made good on a threat.

Sad, but I can't think of anyone who's tried harder to kill themselves over the years than Whitney. Hope she finds peace now.

R.I.P. Whitney. She set the standard by which I judge all other performances of the National Anthem. A true diva.

Wonder what this does to the movie she was making...It is sad. She will be missed
I also wonder if they'll seal the autopsy report like elvis...
Some of the guys at work found it interesting to find this out about the death while in treatment.

Whitney was similar to Michael Jackson. Very easy to pick on, but I think the jokes need to take a break for a week or so out of respect. Not that any real disrespect has been done in this thread, but I've seen it already in other places.

RIP Whitney. I Will Always Love You helped me win a few "womanless beauty pageants" in high school.

I'm sorry, but I respectfully disagree on both. First of all, she never came close to Michael Jackson who made much more of an impact on global pop music than Whitney.

And the respect part, if only Whitney respected herself, her skills and her career more we wouldn't have this discussion right now.

R.I.P. Whitney Houston...one of the most beauitful voices of our era.

CoreyD 02-12-2012 07:06 AM

Re: Whitney Houston RIP

I don't see how people on the news keep comparing her to Michael Jackson. Yes she came from same music era and legend but dang her self battles were a little different. I'd almost compare her to Elvis who died 6 years younger and was much of a positive icon and influence to singers today and most her younger songs were ways she dealt with self pain.
I also wonder how far this movie that was suppose to be released in August was, and if its still going to be released and how much now it brings in.

I had heard the name before but didn't know who she was (yeah I know I am out of touch). I found a link to her singing the National Anthem before the Super Bowl... Wow!!! That was one pure voice.

May she rest in peace.

Re: Whitney Houston RIP

Two ironies in this news. One is just a personal one, New Edition was in town last night with a
"we really need the money" reunion tour, so that was kind of weird. Bobby Brown decided an
hour before showtime that he would go on with the rest of the guys.

Secondly, how weird is it that Maya Rudolph is the next host of SNL either next weekend
or in the weeks to come shortly. She always PLAYED Whitney Houston in the past. This must
surely be her 9/11 moment for the show...Should she DO W.H. or not? Strange sitcho for sure.

She hosts this week. My bet is that she may mention Houston, but won't play her.

Exactly. One small step could have picked her up and let her lead an incredible life. She had so much talent to make so many people happy.

While you're no doubt spot on, I instead was going for the cheap laugh by referencing one of her songs...;s

I've read several unsubstantiated reports that her ingestion of prescription medication (Xanax was specifically mentioned) and booze either directly (died from overdose) or indirectly (overdose cause her to drown) led to her death. All I can do is look back and shake my head at the waste of such a God-given talent...
