USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
Cany anyone tell me if there are any Cohibas available to the US that are comparable to the cubans?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...iba_cigars.jpg Man, I really enjoyed this one! |
Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
In price? Yes. In taste? No. :D
;s |
Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
Are we talking legal availability?
If we are, I imagine one would have to look for a long time to find a Cohibia that is available legally to the US that tastes like a one produced in Cuba. ;) |
Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
There is nothing.

Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.

Agreed. Sorry, bro.
So, that means there is good news! Odds are, there is a cigar available to you that is very similar to what you smoked. You just have to find it. :D |

1. The cigar was like nothing I have ever expierenced 2. I have read on how to spot the fakes vs the real ones. Quote:

The font of 'Habana, Cuba' is wrong on yours, bro. Look closely at the real one you posted then at your band. Most glaringly, the "C" in Cuba.
I usually wouldn't go by bands alone but with Jamaica in the mix, that's red flags to me. |
Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
Yeah the one you got was fake. The yellow looks off too IMO.

Don't feel too bad, if it tastes good, just be glad it wasn't a complete dog rocket. It's gotta be a good feeling knowing that at least it was a good smoke, real or not. That's what happened to a buddy of mine when he went down to Mexico, came back with some fake Cohibas that were just awful tasting. |
Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
Another thing I noticed is that in the picture of the authentic band, there is some black between the gold edge and the bottom row of white squares. On your band, the gold cuts through the bottom row of white squares, with no black in between.
The embossing also seems to be too pronounced. I'm no expert though. Just pointing out some differences in the pictures. |
Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
Yep, unfortunately a fake but if you enjoyed it - great. The good news is that there are probably cigars available in the us that taste like your fake.
|
Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
I had some of those with the same font "C" as yours. They really weren't bad tasting for fakes. I even took one apart and it was all long filler. Luckily, I learned my lesson and got those fakes out of my system.

consider yourself fortunate. the bar has been lowered considerably and you won't need to break any laws to reach it.

I didn't mean to come off as a dick. It just kinda threw me aback when someone told me my "cuban" was a fake even without knowing what it looked like or what not. Kinda like me telling you that someone is an ass without ever meeting them or talking to them. I apologize. |

I have been to many tropical destinations, and unless you shop at a La Casa del Habana shop, 99.99% of the stuff is fake. I should have been more detailed. I am sorry as well. |

Bottom line...you enjoyed the stick. :tu

BTW, what happened to you with your Fauxhibas has happened to most of us at one time or another.
I got some great Fauxhiba's in Cabo. Mine were not as good as yours and since they were my first "Cubans" they kind of turned me off on them. Now that I know better I am much happier (and have much less spending money ) |

Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
As Michael and James said, this is something most of have been through. Fakes are much easier to find in most countries than legit Cubans. Even in Cuba there are large amounts of fakes, some sporting legit bands smuggled out of the factories.
There was a time that Jamaica produced some fantastic cigars, this is no longer the case. If the cigar came from any place other than an official LCDH in any country, the chances are good that it is a fake. :2 |

The C is also different on two of them. Not sure if that means anything but on one the loop thing goes through the c (the one on the drink) then on the authentic one in the picture it doesnt swoop through the bottom of the C. If that makes any sense. I am talking about the part that says Cuba.

I remember enjoying Royal Jamaica cigars a number of years ago, but heard the factory burned down and they are now made in the Dominican Republic and haven't tried them since.

Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
Now seeing what you guys are saying - you have me worried that maybe I also fell prey. Mexico - Cancun, went to market 58, pretty sure they were fake ( 5 in a wood box w glass top ). They were not terrible but you could tell there was something off. Ended up going to LCDH and over paying but hey - sometimes its worth the peace of mind. What do you all think?

Re: USA Cohiba Vs. Cuban Cohiba.
While the experts are in here, this was given to me by a Cuban American that brought them back when he visited. Legit?

That Limitada is fake. 08 was the Sublime, not a torpedo tipped cigar.
