Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Ok I had several requests at EPIC IV to give out my recipe for the Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs. Here it goes:
Ingredients: 4lbs regular length hotdogs At least 3lbs regular sliced bacon, not thick sliced.(depends on number of slices per pack) 8oz to 1lb light brown sugar Box of toothpicks Big foil pan Cut hotdogs into 5ths. Cut bacon into 3rds. Wrap the hotdogs in the bacon. Place toothpicks through each piece of hotdog wrapped in bacon to hold the bacon on the hotdog, place into the foil pan. Preheat oven to 350*F. Pour as much brown sugar as you want onto the pan of hotdogs evenly, being sure not to completely bury the hotdogs. Place into the oven on the center of the rack. Check them every 30 minutes or so. If the ones on top are cooking faster than the ones on the bottom, carefully stir them with a large spoon. Bake until the bacon is cooked. Once done, remove the pan from the oven and drain the majority of the fat and sugar from the pan. EAT THEM! :D |

I didn't actually read your post yet, but the title alone makes me salivate.

How much Crestor do you need to take with that?

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
I will be trying these.

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Interesting I think if I had to do it though I would....Candy all the bacon ahead of time, grill a hotdog and then wrap the whole thing, cover it in cheese and toss it on a bun.
Perhaps I will try something like these though |
Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Been doing a variation on this for years. If, somehow, you ever get tired of those, try replacing the hotdogs with Lit'l Smokies and use 1/3 piece of bacon on each.

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Tasty indeed!!! They kinda dissappeared within minutes at EPIC.
I have done these before but with the little cocktail weenies. I will admit the hotdog method was just as tasty! |

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
This sounded so good, I wanted to try it, but I had all this ham laying around so I used that. Took inexpensive cure 81 ham, sliced it into double-matchstick sized pieces, sprinkled with brown sugar and a bit of cayenne pepper and a dash of powered ginger. I let that sit for a bit...let the sugars melt a bit with ham liquid. Then tossed them in a saute pan until the sugar melted and the ham started to crisp up. SOOOO GOOD. Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Ok..the first batch got devoured...second batch. Bit more tweakage. Same ham strips, but glaze for the second batch was brown sugar, clove powder, cayenne, ginger and cinnamon. OH MY HOLY COW.
My boys literally licked the bowl. Salty, sweet, spicy, savory soooooo good. New name for them. Ham Strings. I will be making those again. |
Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
I read the thread title and thought, "Wow, that sounds so unhealthy, yet tasty." Thanks man, I will give this a try maybe around Christmas since we'll be out of town for Thanksgiving.

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
you can always cut the amount of meat in half to make a half batch.

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Making my first batch right now. Pre-cooked pic. More pics after they are finished.

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Done...took about 55-60 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees (all thrown into one pan).

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Those look great. I do something similar on my smoker. I use Lil' Smokies wrapped in bacon then dusted with the brown sugar and tossed on the smoker for a few hours. They come out like bacony, sausagy, candy.:dr
Gonna have to try the oven method now. I think I may stick to the Lil' Smokies though. |

Bought some smoked Virginia sausage...gonna try that instead of the hotdogs.

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
Damn that sounds tasty Mac, let us know the result

Re: Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Hotdogs
I bet this is good!
I've done the same without the hotdogs. Candied bacon is what a buddy told me it was. I'll have to try this with the hotdogs. |
