Star Wars: the Old Republic

So who is picking this up on December 20th? Anyone in beta? I preordered and I am highly looking forward to it.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I would be if it was more like KOTOR, but just not into MMOs.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I'll most definitely be picking this up! I still play WoW to keep my occupied though.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

Brutus2600 was doing the beta testing for it. From what he described, this will be a good game to pick up. I need to upgrade the video card on my desktop, but I plan to join in December.

I have preordered and looking forward to getting going in December.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

Yep, this is going to be a great game. With the Star Wars name behind it, I believe it is the first MMO to actually have a chance to survive against WoW (not a WoW killer, just survive against it, haha).

Anyway, Like Beagle said, I've been playing beta and it's pretty great so far. It does need a beefy computer to run well, but that's just a great excuse to upgrade the ol' computer ;)

So yes, I have a preorder in and will be playing this as soon as it's released!

Ooh, I'll have to check it out and see what it's about.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I'm seriously looking forward to this release. I've been watching the "development" site for what seems like a long, long time. I've really enjoyed the KOTOR games, and thoroughly enjoyed playing a couple of MMO's...so this may be a enough of a "fit" for me to jump it with both feet. Also helping out is that fact that I'll have a couple weeks off of work staring on or about the 20th...:noon

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I think Blizzard has some concerns over this games draw. They recently announced that they will give you Diablo 3 FREE if you agree to a 12-month subscription to WoW. It's a great idea on their part; because even if you leave the game, they're still getting their money.

Blizzard is making WoW far too mindless. To the point that it is taking the fun out of the game for me. Then they announce the next expansion as freaking Panda's... Really? It's like Return of the Jedi all over again. You went from the biggest baddest dragon in the game... to fuggin' kungfu ewoks (Panda's)?

w squared 11-08-2011 06:26 PM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I know that WOW is the grand-daddy of games...but to be honest I think that Blizzard does a poor job of running it, and I find that the game tends to be mindless most of the time. I want some challenge and some variety...not the endless grinding that WOW seems to be. There's a reason that I didn't end up progressing past level 30....yet made it far further (in terms of hours played) with DDO.

should be good times.

+1 to that, looking forward to getting this setup now!

I'll be grabing it but probably won't do it the first week or two. Star Wars Galaxies had so many bugs and patches that I bet I only played an hour or two the first week. I expect this with the Old Republic. We need to get a server list up and hook up in game!

Got it all downloaded last night... I've got a show out of town tonight, which blows! I might have to take the day off. hahaha

Ive never played a MMORPG but if I was goign to do it, this would be it. But I can't justify all the time I would waste playing it.

I got the email that I will get to play a test coming up ... just didn't make it into this weekend though ...

Kneo 11-15-2011 01:21 PM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I was in this past weekends test and I enjoyed it. I will be playing this for sure. With that being said they do have some bugs to work out and I am going to have to replace my video cards as I was getting poor FPS.

According to the website everyone that signed up for beta testing prior to Nov. 11th will be in the next beta test weekend.

During this test I played on the Shadow Hand Server. Would be cool to have a bunch of us on here on the same server.

IndyRob 11-15-2011 01:26 PM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

Hah, I played on Shadow Hand as well.

also...curse.com is giving away some 175k beta keys this week:

I'm told I'm not allowed to play MMOs anymore. My fiance tells the story like I died or something; "I lost him for a whole summer...I had no idea what he meant when he said he'd be playing the game A LOT"

Haha. That's good. As for me, preordered and can't wait to beta test this weekend.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

Some kind of "sort of open beta" from fileplanet going on. They're giving out keys but yo uhave to consume the key by midnight tonight (CST) and will get an invite. I signed up (even though I'm a beta candidate from like 4 directions, including preorder) so we'll see.

I tell ya, the collectors edition had this "portable in-game vendor" for selling stuff. I found myself almost doing it. But an additional $100 just seems stupid. $40 with a $70 collectors edition? Sure. i'll do that all day. But $170 or whatever it is? No no.

GB have been downloading ... still more to go ... apparently an error occurred yesterday shortly after I went to work so the first 12 GB download stopped about 300 meg in ... I may get some play time in this week :)

Tried playing this last weekend and unfortunately I saw nothing but bad lag. I tried to playing a couple different times but ended up throwing in the towel. Hopefully this gets corrected ... soon.

That's why I'll sit out the first week or two. I got so frustrated with Galaxies and even BF3 opening day.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

Bought the game, haven't decided what server we're playing on. If another open beta starts or a test run happens again, I'll continue with Shadow Hand. On there I have a Sith Juggernaut at lvl 18 named Baelthalus.

Sin 12-01-2011 11:14 PM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

Unfortunately I didnt get to play too much, but when I did, it was pretty fun and no lag here thank God.

spectrrr 12-02-2011 12:30 AM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I got to play the last 2 beta weekends. Sadly I think that may be it for us weekend testers :(

My computer is FAR from a gaming computer and it handled the FPS mostly well. lower than realtime, yes... affecting my gameplay, no.
Intel Q6600 quad core clocked at 2.4ghz, Radeon HD 2600 XT, 4gb RAM

Likewise I experienced ZERO lag the whole time, which was impressive given that my internet is country DSL that tops off at 220kB/s on a good day. (that's combined up+down speed)

Finally on the subject of bugs... I had none. It ran smooth as a normal release for me, no issues except for slightly glitchy server selection wait timer.

I played a bounty hunter and a smuggler on the tek/trak something like that server.

Will I buy it? I want to.... not so sure I'll have the time to play it enough though...

madwilliamflint 12-02-2011 07:24 AM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

Yep. I played a few beta weekends ago, smooth as silk (after the queue.) I've preordered so I'm committed.

Early access was released to some this morning! Who all got the email?

My friends and I joined the PVP EST server Death Wind Corridor and we're playing Empire. Feel free to join that server if you don't already have one planned! :tu

I should be on Corderous Ordo for PVE, and Helm of Graush for PVP. I'll post my toons names once I know them.

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

I've played MMOs since EQ and even did Ultima Online before that but it was a disaster.
Been tempted to get this one but from what I've seen it seems like the same grind with much better skins. If I were sick and needed something to occupy my time I'd jump into this with both feet though!

so far, so great. I'm on Keller's Void server

IndyRob 12-19-2011 06:02 AM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

queue times to get on during peak hours is ridiculous. I remember this from every popular launch, but I waited over 30+ minutes the other night. Nuts!

So, have since relocated to a new server, The Corsair. If you're playing Sith on there look up Baelthalus the dark one!

Bax 12-19-2011 06:11 AM

Re: Star Wars: the Old Republic

It has been fun so far minus the queue times. I have a trooper and a Sith warrior on Kaas City both at level 6 ... fortunately the weather was nice this weekend so it otudoor cleanup/project rather than getting to play a lot ... looking at some time coming up though :).

So the game has officialy been out over a month now. I am loving it, I hope those of you who picked it up are having as much fun as I am.

The problem I keep having is that I want to play all the storylines so I guess I have a terrible case of altaholic right now. Multiple characters on multiple servers, in multiple guilds. Probably not the best way to play. :r

I've never really been into games per se, but I do like TOR a lot. I am still figuring things out and and a lot of the basics, but I am having fun so far. I've only done on character (Sith Warrior), but I may go back and start a new one just to see a different perspective.

We had talked about putting together a server list so here is a start
