Need Cigars!
What are some cigars a fairly new smoker should try? I'm looking for sampler packs or 5 packs.
|
Re: Need Cigars!
The key is to smoke every single cigar as fast as you can and figure out which one you liked best.
|
Re: Need Cigars!
Are you looking for suggestions or people to sell them to you?
|
Re: Need Cigars!
Try cigarmonster.com they have lots of samplers and 5 packs.
|
Re: Need Cigars!
Just kidding, if you give some idea of what your taste/ strength preference is that would make it a lot easier to give some suggestions. If you don't have that down yet, there is a lot of good info on here if you use the search function. Good reviews, cheap smokes threads, etc. Just my:2. Good luck!

Re: Need Cigars!
As a newbie myself I would recomend a sampler of the Man O' War line. They have a few different options for different tastes. If you like mild flavor try the MoW Virtue or the Cain Daytonas, but not the other Cains from what I read. If you like a dark cocoa/coffee profile try the Diesel Unholy Cocktail. There are so many different flavor profiles out there I am still finding my tastes but so far I enjoy anything Maduro, might differ for you however!
What I did was once I found a flavor I enjoyed I read reviews to find those same flavors mentioned, hasn't led me wrong yet. |
Re: Need Cigars!
If you have a local B&M go there and try a new one each time.

You should do this even if you're not a fairly new cigar smoker. |
Re: Need Cigars!
Smoke all different size, styles & shapes. That way you leave no stone unturned. Then, it all comes down to trial and error. You need to experiment on your own & find out what works best for you & your developing palate. What you find works for you may not work for the other guy. The best part is all the cigars you will smoke between now & then... -(P
P.S. You can never go wrong with PADRON... :2 |
Re: Need Cigars!
I like more so medium.. Some full are good. Man o war... Ehhh haven't done anything for me so far.
Local b&m sucks. Looking for suggestions not for members to sell them. |

Re: Need Cigars!
Garry, some cigars are real simple and one-dimensional. That's a good place to start. That way you can get some solid ideas about the flavors you like.
Do you mouth smoke or nose smoke? The reason I ask is that a lot of cigars give up flavors and nuance that you can't experience if you're mouth smoking. Guys need to know that to make suggestions. What have you smoked that you liked? That's another biggie. It allows guys to tell you about similar cigars. With zero input, I'd suggest you try anything Fuente, anything Padron, maybe Cusano, Punch, Torano, anything with a pretty band, or anything that smells nice to you. Don't pay a lot, stay under 6 or 7 bucks. Check back in later and ask the same question, but give the guys some input. They'll help. Go find the NST (noob sampler trade) here and get involved, and take a look at the smokes the noobs are enjoying. Have fun, brother!!! :tu |
Re: Need Cigars!
If you can pin down a strength that you like CI offers Taster Packs that are 10 cigars of a certain strength with a cutter for $35. I started there and have expanded with other suggestions from here and friends.

I am keeping track of the cigars I am having with a cigar app on my HTC. Some brands I like.. I liked most of the Alec Bradley I have tried, Harvest selction, SCR, Prensado. Gurkha Park ave. I liked that.. so far that is the only Gurkha i liked Nica Libre 1990 is good. I can smoke that alot. Ones I want to try/on my list are; Punch(never), more Carlos Torano(few, can't remember which), Rocky Patel(only had the R4. Cant find a decent sampler, http://www.thompsoncigar.com/product...ts?cm_vc=10572 have only had the decade in there), Padron(same, can't find a good sampler to try most of them), Perdomo.(I have only had the Lot 23, i think), Padilla(never), Gurkha Empire(Good sampler from CI), Pinar Del Rio(never). That is a lot to try, So I still have plenty to do. I am looking for good prices and decent amount. I dont want to spend alot (which i know i will have to) and end up not liking them and being stuck with a few. I can always bomb some people. I haven't been here long enough to see who likes what or even have addresses. I haven't had a 5 Vegas that I even would recommend to anyone. There was a bunch I have tried from another site in a newb trade, But I didn't keep track like I am now. |

Re: Need Cigars!
My personal advice would be to start on the mild end. CI (cigarsinternational.com) offers plenty of mild sampler packs that can get you going. Once you build up your palate a bit you can then go onto some mild-medium body smokes. After you find yourself craving more (and you will) try some full body smokes. Remember that darker smokes don't always mean they are heavy and full body.
I love getting sampler packs because you can pick and choose what you like most as a smoker. Happy smoking! |

Good advise also to start at the mild to med end of the scale...and work your way up as your tastes change to the fuller end of the profile. There is no hurry take your time, enjoy the moment, and your cigars...really that is what cigars are all about. :) |

Re: Need Cigars!
As someone who has lurked on this CA/CS for about five years, reading is the absolute best thing you can do at this point. Most of the people hear have good knowledge and lots of experience in this great hobby of ours and some, a few of which have already posted in this thead, have astounding amounts of insight and wisdom to pass on. Start with the sticky threads and then go dive into the reviews. Find reviews of cigars you already like and see if there are certain posters who have similar tastes and see what they like that you haven't smoked.
As others have said, use the NST. I took full advantage of that at CS and it really was the one thing I can point to that secured my interest in cigars. Even if that is the only trading you do, it will go a long way to not only help you develop your palate but show you the caliber of people that share this great hobby. Regardless of how active you decide to be here, enjoy the ride. Posted via Mobile Device |
