Box Press vs. Regular
I seem to enjoy a box press cigar over a regular round cigar.
I just like the way it feels in my hand. My first impression as a newbie was that box pressed cigars would be less desireable, but after smoking a few my opinion has changed. What is your opinion? (And I mean two identical smokes, one box pressed and the other one is regular round.) |
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
LOVE the Padron 3000 box-press!!!!
|
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I voted other. While I do like some box-pressed sticks I would not go so far as to make a generalization that box-press is a preference. Like everything else I have had box-press sticks that I did not care for...
What can I say, I like what I like... :) |
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
The BOX has a feel of it's own... :tu I lean towards the box if given the choice.

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I can honestly say that I cannot recall ever having a box pressed cigar to burn correctly. The worst were the old Onyx's. No matter what they would burn down one side.
Btw, how many cigars are offered in both a box press and non box press? I mean there are certainly marca's who offer both, but are they of the same blend or vitola? |

601 Blue Maduros are a great example of a perfect burn, awesome tasting box press stick!! :dr :dr

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I prefer my cigars from a cab or SLB, and thus round.

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
Have to say I am not a fan of box pressed sticks. Not really sure why either. I guess its just a weird preference.
On another note, have you 601 blue box pressed fans ever had a batch that were gritty? I have a fiver now that almost seem like there is a fine sand in them? Not bad sticks, but that is just a turn off. Sorry for the hijack. |

Not so shockingly, I liked the cab version more because of burn issues. |

Both...

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I don't have a preference.

NC box pressed are done intentionally, I think. I'm not sure though. |
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
Given a choice I'll always leave a box-pressed cigar in the box and smoke the round cigar.

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
The term box pressed describes Cubans in dress boxes, some of these NC "box-pressed" cigars are pressed into squares before putting them in the box.
I, like Tom, prefer cigars out of Cabs and SLBs so I like round. To answer Wayne's question about whether or not marcas make round and box pressed or the same vitola the answer is yes when the vitola is offered in a dress box and a cab of 50. Examples: Party Shorts, RASS, Punch Punch |
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
Box Pressed are easy to sit down almost anywhere!:tu

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I'm not partial to either I love the Padron 64 and 26's and the RP Edges

If you haven't guessed, I prefer box pressed cigars. |
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
Went with round. DBs come in second followed by box pressed in distant third.

I'm guessing he's referring to the slight box press of a dress box....
I prefer round. |

I guess the terminology can be a bit loose. When I think of box press, I think of LFD's series or the Onyx series where box press is in the actual name. I don't necessary think of a dress box that has cigars which are tightly packed together because of the way they are inserted into the dress box. The Punch Ninfa's come to mind as a great example of this, however I wouldn't consider them box pressed. |

Both.

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I have only had a couple cigars that come in both box press and round... And I have to say the traditional round has always been the best shape for me.
With the box press cigars I always get weird tastes and the burn is always funky. |
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
Most of the Oliva G vitolas are box pressed but they also offer a round robusto. A couple of my favorite smokes are box (or factory) press but I can't really say I prefer them to round as a rule.
|
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
Not a huge fan of box pressed cigars, never really was. /shrug
|
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I do enjoy box pressed cigars. But I chose round because my favorite size is robusto.
|
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I prefer dodecagonal pressed cigars
but really it doesn't matter to me that much because for aging its cabs for short term smoking DB's |
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I prefer cigars that have their pressing caused by being forced into an irregular edge tessellation in the box.

Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I chose round mainly because the tastiest sticks I've had have been traditional round smokes. That could change with a tasty stick though...
|
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
I don't like box pressed just because I don't like how they feel in the hand or mouth.

I've always enjoyed a box press better. That or a small rg, somewhere under 50. I won't turn my nose up at other stuff though. It's far from a rule.
|
Re: Box Press vs. Regular
Prefer round but I wouldn't pass up a nicely trimmed box.:sl
