Tropic Thunder

We bought the DVD without seeing this one in the theater first - Usually we wouldn't do this but we heard a lot of good things about it!

I thought the movie had some funny parts but overall I didn't care for this one! I "get" the movie and what it was trying to do but I think it is not worth having in my DVD collection!

My wife thought it was disgusting, especially Tom Cruise!

What are your thoughts? Am I missing something?

Side note: My friends and I made a movie in high school with the same exact idea. It was titled The War Movie! It was just as juvenile but way better! And it cost only pennies to make!

Oh, Tom Cruise is in this? I just might have to skip it now.

I DESPISE Tom Cruise. However, I found him quite entertaining in this movie.

I give this movie two thumbs down. I had to immediately watch Grandmas' Boy after this to get my mind right.

Grey bush!

Seriously, I have not yet seen Tropic Thunder. I cannot stand Ben Stiller. I may watch it in a more inebriated state sometime in the near future though.

I though he was pretty entertaining too. Though, I hated the movie.

Ben Stiller, Jack Black... and anyone thought it would be more than just non-sense comedy has not seen a film by either:r:r but I enjoyed it for a Friday night with some friends.:D

I grabbed the 2 disc edition of this last night, I cannot wait to see the special features.

I love this movie, I found it hysterical as did Dani. I loved everything about this movie, I thought the idea was quite inventive and creative. The characters were great, especially Downey Jr and Tom Cruise.

You guys are boring OB, go back to watching episodes of Bonanza and The Andy Griffith Show. :tg

It was OK. I thought Tom Cruise was the best part of the movie. Out of the three that summer (Pineapple Express and Step Brothers) I would give SB the nod.

It must be a generational thing!!!

BTW - I thought Downey was fantastic!!! This guy really should have five Oscars!!!

I'm with the OP on this one...I "get" the movie but just simply did not find myself laughing all that often. Sure there were plenty of funny moments, but you certainly had to wait for them.

Tom Cruise was the best part IMO

I liked this movie and, as much as it pains me to say this, especially Tom Cruise's character. Fricking hilarious.

This was Ben Stiller's best film by far. Tom Cruise stole the show unfortunately... RDJ was genius. Jack Black was just flat out annoying.

I am not a big Jack Black fan, but I would still like to see this movie. Since MOBD didn't think too much of it, it must be good. Old Guys just don't get the new humor.:r

Gave it a watch tonight impressed.

Some of the wording made the film.

Ben Stiller made a movie I enjoyed him in, that might be a first.

There was big hype to this movie, but i have to say i thought it was total crap. I've only ever stopped watching one other movie before in my life in the middle. This was 2/10 at best. Sorry to be such a negative nancy :)

I'm not a huge fan of silly comedy movies, I like a good dark or dry comedy, but I thought it was good.

IMHO

Any of the Wes Anderson movies will fit this. (in this order, all good) These range from dry to dark in my book.
-The Royal Tenenbaums
-Bottle Rocket
-Rushmore
-The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
-The Darjeeling Limited

I would say I enjoy MST3K, I think I laugh the hardest at these shows. And now the new Rifftrax, check them out

For dark I would say.
Dr. Strangelove
Catch-22
Fargo
The Big Lebowski

The movie over all was ok. Ben Stiller was the worst part of it. The best part was Tom Cruise and Robert Downey, Jr. It was nice seeing Cruise play a non-serious role finally. I wish Jack Black's role was a little better.

I made it about 10 minutes farther than you did before I shut it off.

Honestly I found more of that in 2nd time watching it.

I know a lot of people are let down by it but 2nd time around it was even better.

I thought the movie was completely disgusting as well. I was ashamed to be watching it with my fiancee and his parents. I actually fell asleep while watching it.
