Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Lets get a list going of member's favorite B&Ms. If you have more than one for any reason e.g. price, selection, or atmosphere list them all. Also let us know what town they're in.
Hopefully we can put together a nice collection of B&Ms around the country. You never know when you might find yourself in another city in need of a friendly place to smoke. For me, I have 3. 1. Heights Cigar Lounge for proximity to home and atmosphere. Houston, TX 2. The Smoke Ring for selection, employee knowledge, and atmosphere. Webster, TX 3. Serious Cigars for proximity to my office. Houston, TX, Richmond Ave. location. What are yours? |
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
None around my area. Therefore I vote to also make this a B&M DO NOT visit list. As it would serve the same purpose. I would also suggest listing better reasons then proximity to your house as it probably won't serve to anyone else.
Here's my $hit list. AKA every B&M I've been to in TN. We don't know how to get a good shop with legitimate honest people. Old Havana smoke shop in Cool springs is the worst - owner is a lying f**king leprechaun. Total scumbag, can't speak English worth a $hit.. uses a lot of fragments. Treats customers and employees like the $hit underneath his shoe. He reminds me of the penguin in Batman Returns. Stoogies - No one here pays any attention to you period, they could care less. Bunch of clueless cashiers. Lounge sucks too. Woodys smokes and brews - they lost their lounge, must be the old angry uninformative bastards that work there. |
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
:banger Tampa Humidor :banger Great owner, awesome selection of cigars and beautiful lounge. Mike (owner) Runs a great B&M!!!!

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Thanks for the response, Bill.
It's a shame you don't have a decent B&M near you. |

Winstons Humidor in Midlothian, Virginia...Kevin the owner is down to earth, great atmosphere and he is a fellow Mets fan. Just wish it wasn't an hours drive away. Always well worth the visit though. :tu :tu

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Burns Tobacconist in Chattanooga, TN is fantastic. Love that place - both the selection and the staff.

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
St Croix Cigars, Hudson, WI. Great staff, good selection of smokes, nice big comfy chairs, and reasonable prices.
|
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Mac I have heard great things about that shop can not wait to take a road trip up there to see it for myself.
Bryan I agree about empire. I love having to fly out of Raleigh just so I can stop in. Great selection and an excellent lounge area. My favorite is Matchbox pipes and cigars. The old man who owns this place is honest and down to earth with great prices. The shop may not look like much and he may not be up on any of the boutique cigars but he keeps some great smokes in there all the time. Not to mention his weekly gathering for a group of regulars. |
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Paul's Pipes in Flint, Mi. In business since 1928 and still owned by the same man. The antis hate people like Paul who smoke all their lives and live to a ripe old age; Paul turned 98 this year. Large selection of cigars, and many thousands of pipes on display on the sales floor. If you go, do not leave without seeing the pipe museum. Prices...it is what it is. Michigans tobacco tax is like 60% of whole sale so its hard to compete with alot of places. No lounge per se, but there is a smoking room with second hand chairs for the exclusive use of pipe club members and other welcome types. I only live twenty minutes away, so I am blessed to be able to go pretty frequently.

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Timothys in Bay City, MI. So big and so comfy! Great staff too!!!
|
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
I'd have to say Smoke Inn. Abe has 5 stores with friendly knowlegable staff and is the home of the Tat Anarchy. This is where the South Fl crew usually herfs! There is 1 franchise store that has a Beer & wine bar. Marc(Owner) does it real nice there!

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
JR Cigar, knowledgeable staff, great selection, very helpful people.
Hill Cigar Co. same reason as above. both in the St. Louis area HSB Tobacconist I would recommend avoiding this shop, unfriendly staff that don't have any knowledge of cigars only the imported cigarettes. They more interested in you buying the cigarettes than any of the cigars or pipe tobacco on that note, most of the cigars in their humidors had stuff on them that look like mold. :( |

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
My apartment. Good, varied cigar selection. The lounge is a balcony about 160' up in the city center and the staff is pretty decent. Free espresso/coffee/soda/pellegrino. Great hours and non-exclusive... all are welcome. :D

Plus its right by my house so if you do visit I would be more than happy to meet up for a smoke and a cocktail. |
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
The only B&M in my town. Smokers friendly, the owner is nice and knows everything about anything. They have a walk in humidor that is like walking into heaven, a small smoke lounge and carry pipes and pipe tobacco when I need it. All in all it is a good place to go, and the sticks there are in good shape. No mold or over humidified sticks.

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Thanks for the AZ tip. I may be heading out there this month. I will shoot you a heads up if I do with an invite to join me via pm or the herf thread. Thanks again -it looks really nice.

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
My fave place to smoke is here
http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/p...euxreview5.jpg Cigars are not sold here, but many are gifted. There is almost always something on the smoker and somewhat above average beverages for all and sundry. But my Monday herfing is almost always done at The Mark cigar bar at the Shilo Inn on the boundary between Portland and Beaverton (9900 SW Canyon Road, Portland). Great BOTLs, food and a complete bar staffed by fine people as well as 11 good sized HD TVs. |

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Another Virginia vote for Winston's :noon
http://www.winstonshumidor.com/ I like that Kevin is very customer friendly and goes out of his way to handle requests or suggestions from his clients, including hosting special events like a "Chili Cookoff/Brew-a-Beer Weekend" and opening the store after-hours for poker nights. Plus he gets new sticks frequently, has decent prices, and is a great place to go for football during the winter. |

There's one near the airport,SFO, I can't remember the name of it, T.G. went there. But there's also Knickerbockers cigars in Menlo Park. Nice indoor lounge, nice selection of cigars. Haven't been there since they rearranged the place though. Near the San Jose Airport there's West Coast Cigars. Small "shack" type building but they have nice selection of cigars. The lounge is pretty small and usually full of regulars but they have outdoor seating. |
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
My two top places in the Chicagoland area are Cigar King in Skokie, IL and The Humidor in Westmont, IL.
Both have decent prices, comfy lounges and friendly staff. |
Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
I like Cigar King in Skokie as well, they just didn't have enough space on Saturdays to accomodate our group though. I like to try to get there once in a while on a weekday and get in a cigar and a nip with Reggie.

I was there about a year ago with wavescrashing, Clay ("808") has been there more recently so he might be a better choice to contact about the place, but my impressions at the time were nice place, lots of room / multiple rooms. Couple of pool tables, big screen tv's in the various rooms, they serve beer and wine at very reasonable costs, like $2.50/bottle or something like that. Very friendly staff, no pressure whatsoever to buy anything. Selection is limited to major brands, you won't find Tatuaje, illusione or Viaje etc there, but the prices are very good, waves and I were thinking that they might have been below MSRP on some cigars. Their hours are a little limited though. It's pretty close to SFO - two miles or so. |

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
The Tobacco Shop in Hartford Connecticut. The original was forced to close this year and was purchased by customers and moved to a new, bigger, better location with a fantastic lounge. The place has been in operation since the 1920s.

Re: Your Favorite B&M and Why.
Outlaw Cigar Co. is by far the best B&M in the KC metro. Great selection of cigar, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and awesome monthly parties are just a few reasons. They have two locations each about 20 minutes from home. :tu
