Looking for new house

The wife and I are now in the market for a new house. :noon We're ready to get out of base housing and on to bigger and better things. Probably not moving until this summer, unless we find something that we just can't say no to. Praying that God puts us where He wants us. Your prayers would help.

-Thanks :tu

Best of luck Earl!! Glad to hear you're leaving post housing...in my 23+ years, we couldn't bring ourselves to reside in quarters. Always hated the idea of beng told WHEN to cut your grass. :r :r :r

I don't like being told when to cut the grass either, but I take great pride in my house and we won Yard of the Month last summer. Its too much work for me though. no one else takes care of their yard and there are dandelions everywhere. I just can't keep them out of my yard.

Nice. We are in a rare period of depressed prices and low interest rates. People are going to be kicking themselves in 2-3 years when interest rates are pushing 10%. People forget the interest rates of the 70's and 80's which were in the mid teens.

Found a couple houses that we're going to look at this weekend. I hope that one of them is the right one for us.

Good luck, Earl. I'm sure you guys will find something great. You're in a unique position with the housing market being what it is as a buyer with a steady income AND a housing allowance. Look forward to seeing the new place. Hopefully I'll be around soon so we can hang out, burn a few, smoke some brisket and catch up. Best of luck, brother :tu

Going to look at houses with our Real estate agent this weekend. We've narrowed the list down to ONLY 13 houses. going to be a long day. hopefully we will find one that suites us pretty well. One good thing about moving is that I can send out Bombs with complete anonymity:r:r:r

Re: Looking for new house

This is one of the houses we are looking at. It has 2 back porches, one covered, one uncovered.

http://pix.idxre.com/pix/NEOMAHA/main/9/21111180_9.jpg

there is an open house this weekend and I really want this house just for the back yard. we'll see what the inside looks like though and what the wife thinks about it.

Re: Looking for new house

We just bought our first house in Jan and i had a blasting going through the whole process. Those porches would be great to have. We have two decks and I'm trying to find a way to cover one now so I can smoke in the rain. Good luck with the search, it is a great time to buy.

Fordman4ever 06-23-2011 07:36 PM

Re: Looking for new house

I really hope this house is what we're looking for. I LOVE the dual back porches.

maninblack 06-24-2011 05:45 AM

Re: Looking for new house

Those porches look sweet Earl! I love sitting on mine smoking while it rains.

Blak Smyth 06-24-2011 05:49 AM

Re: Looking for new house

Those porches kick ash, I could see a dozen people smoking cigars out there for shure!
I bought my house about three years ago, thought it was a good deal. A year later my neighbor moved in and paid $60,000 less than me for the same exact model of house! Kinda makes me throw up and swallow it again everytime I think of home buying.

Fordman4ever 06-26-2011 02:05 PM

Re: Looking for new house

The house with the 2 back porches has fallen through. the kitchen doesn't have a pantry and there are some tile issues among with a few other things so we're putting that one on the back burner for now. we have narrowed the rest of the list down to 2 houses. we're getting pretty close choosing the house that is right for us. I'm getting pretty excited.

Here are the 2 houses that we are looking at now. Out of the 13 houses we looked at yesterday these 2 are the only ones we liked.

Re: Looking for new house

I'm a fan of #2 as it has the open floor plan and a great back yard...is the deck covered? PS: I just noticed this is post 2000...

Fordman4ever 06-26-2011 05:00 PM

Re: Looking for new house

congrats on the 2k posts. #2 is nicer on the inside and has a lot more storage space but #1 is in a better location and has a bigger back yard. The deck on #2 is covered but its not a solid roof, its just a bunch of rafters.

There's a saying amongst us Realtors . . . the only thing you can't change about a house is the location. The biggest mistake first time buyers make is they get mesmerized by big rooms or shiney stainless steel appliances and forget about the quality of location. A smaller house in a great location is easier to sell (and generally will appreciate more) than a larger house in a less desirable location.

Fordman4ever 06-27-2011 12:33 PM

Re: Looking for new house

Looks like we're going with the smaller one in the better location(right next to a golf course) its the one that the wife likes the best and its closer to work.

Well, I have learned from my current home purchase I should have listened to the wife. Even if she is wrong she is still right. Wise choice!

Looks like the other house is the one she likes best now. That's fine with me cause I like this one better anyways. She'll probably change her mind tomorrow anyways.

Good luck, I am considering letting my house go.
I know I can't do it but right now it would make soo much sense.
We want to move but lost over $60k on our house with the economy issues.

Re: Looking for new house

So it looks like we weren't meant to live at the house we wanted. The owners just accepted an offer right before we were going to meet with our realtor to make an offer.

We have found 4 more houses that we like and are going to look at them on Saturday. I'm pretty excited. I'm kinda glad the last one fell through cause I really like the ones we're going to look at.

Fordman4ever 07-08-2011 09:01 AM

Re: Looking for new house

Here are the new houses we're looking at.

Number 1

Number 2

Number 3

Number 4

Number 1 is really nice and is pretty similar to the one that we were looking at that got sold.

Number 2 has really nice floors and an OK kitchen, not enough pantry space though.

Number 3 has a pretty big kitchen and a walk out balcony from the master bedroom.

Number 4 has a wood burning fireplace and the best kitchen IMO.

We're going to look at the houses tomorrow. wish us luck.

Fordman4ever 07-09-2011 10:47 AM

Re: Looking for new house

Well, we went and looked at the houses today and it looks like Number 1 is the winner so far. Number 2 was a compete dud as it had mold in the garage and laundry room and smelled like crap. Number 3 was a "short sale" which can often be not so short, and it needed a lot of work. And Number 4 was really nice on the inside but the only bathroom upstairs was a shared bathroom with the master bedroom and everyone else.(the wife hates sharing bathrooms, so that one is a no) but all in all, we really liked the one on Corn Dr. The back porch is huge and so is the back yard. Hopefully this one will stay on the market long enough for us to put a bid on it.

Good luck, the right one will come along when it is meant to. I'm glad my first two offers were declined because I ended up finding a house that I like MUCH better. Things tend to work out the way they are supposed to. Buying is really stressful, but so worth it.

I'm a Realtor and I can honestly say I've seen this happen many, many times. It all works out for the best in the end.
