Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
What you will need:
* A Sylvania LED Flute found at Lowe's, Home Depot or, if the outdoors is too adventurous, Amazon. Roughly $10. * About 30 seconds. --------------------------- Here's the LED Flute: http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...hotomyx/h1.jpg Here's the top of the Hali with foam in it: http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...hotomyx/h2.jpg Shove the flute in there (that sounds so dirty). It will be nestled against the little lip (which is where the latch ends). May sound confusing, but you'll understand once you put it in place (Note that you could get all fancy and mount clips and stuff, but you really don't need to... it stays in place perfectly. Also, bear in mind that if you do want to affix it, don't do so permanently... you're gonna need to swap those batteries out at some point): http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...hotomyx/h3.jpg It's a little push button, independently powered by 3 AAA batteries. Angle it a bit so it is directed at your cigars. Being that it's a cylinder, that's easy to do: http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...hotomyx/h4.jpg Here's a pic of it in a pitch black room (no flash in the picture, either): http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...hotomyx/h5.jpg Done. No more carrying around flashlights and rummaging through your cigars 1 handed. This would work on any travel case, all I have are Hali's now, though, so I can't test it on other ones... you may need to get little aluminum clips and cut the foam (if you even have any in there) or it may be able to wedge in there like this. |
Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
Gonna paint it baby blue to match the Halli?
;) Good solution. I put an LED version of a lightstick in mine, Sylvania brand also. Yours is much more elegant of a solution. Oh, and I like yours quite a bit better. I suppose I should actually herf more often. But I really don't like people. You need a step 4. Grab a cigar and smoke it while admiring your hard work. Tell the significant other it took about 2 hours to install custom lighting, she will be impressed. |

Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
Very cool Dan, although all the BABOTL are good about paying their power bills, so we have lights at our herfs, but next time I'm in upstate NY I'll pick one up...

Hahaha... The cigar bar I smoke at is dark as hell. Also, Shack gets dark especially under the tent or at the edge of the pier late at night (which, by the way, is the most relaxing damned thing in the world). |
Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)

Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
Nice lighting trick, Dan. Simple, low cost and no physical mods to the case.
Have you been on an airplane with the light? TSA is a funny beast, at times. |

Agreed, but I couldn't find a grab of that frame. |
Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
A note about picture #4:
You really can't see the "flute" when it is in there. I specifically angled the Hali so you could see how it rests against that lip. What it looks like in the real world is like photo #5 (where all you see are the lights). |

Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
Your idea rocks Dan.:tu I modified the location of the light to work better on mine as it has convoluted foam:

I don't get it, how many of you need to get into your boxes in the darkness? Or is this more of just a bling thing?

This costs about the same as the LED flashlight, keeps itself in place pretty well and works like a charm. |
Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
Hmmm, never would've thought a B&M would that THAT bad of lighting, but I can see a night time herf would come in handy, or by the firepit. Cool idea.

Re: Zero Halliburton Lighting Solution (step-by-step)
I tried this mod on my 40ct Cigar caddy.
I grabbed the caddy, and tried to place the light in the same location as the Hali. No go, the foam isn't rigid enough to hold the light in place. I started to look for another way to rig it, and pulled out the foam humidifier, since I don't use it. http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/df48aa27.jpg The round mounting bracket fit nicely into the hole left by the missing humidifier. It is also magnetic and clings nicely to the metal plate in the caddy. With the bracket in place I try to put the light in and it wont stay in place. The foam keeps pushing the light out of the bracket. Next I looked for ways to secure the light to the bracket, I thought about glue or cable ties, but felt the bracket might not stay put. I decided the foam was in the way, so it needed to go. http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/38a61903.jpg I slid the bracket under the foam, placed the light where I wanted it, and used a scissor to make little slits as I traced around the outline of the light. I removed the light and connected the slits to fully remove the pieces of foam that were in the way. Ta-da, it fit like a glove! http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/23731314.jpg http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/9c78d744.jpg If using the foam trays, I would recommend putting smaller RG cigars in the top tray, since the light is a little thicker than the top foam. If you pull out the trays and use baggies, it might be a good idea to cover your sticks with an empty tray. Not sure if it's necessary, but I don't want to be responsible for ruining your sticks! :gary |
