They changed her costume because people were complaining that she looked too sexy. Who the hell are these people. New getup looks terrible.

I was going to suggest that a movie might have done better, but apparently there's been one stuck in development for a few years. Fantasy/Sci-fi has pretty much bombed on TV lately (aside from Lost). Look at stuff like V, The Event, The Cape, No Ordinary Family, Defying Gravity, Stargate: Universe, Caprica. If they're not gone yet, they will be in May. The public would rather watch crap like Dancing With the "Stars," Bob's Burgers, and of course: American Idol.

It's true that a lot of the recent fantasy shows have bombed, but a lot of that has to do with scripts...

Look at the first season of Hero's. Good script and a good show -- then it went down-hill. The recent series The Cape had a good idea, but lousy script -- and the main actor (forget his name) just could not pull off the character.

I think with fantasy series people have high expectations and the developers are not up to the task right now...

Never watched Idol... My wife watches Dancing, but for me it's easy to avoid... :)

I really do like a good SciFi show and periodically re-watch Firefly/Serenity from and the Dresden Files from SF Channel. Or I read...

BTW, I will check out Wonder Woman, just to see how this new actress does. She looks pretty hot and that seems to be able to take a mediocre series a long way...

Are you talking about the show or the comic? I know they got rid of the skin tight clothes in the comic a year or two ago.

The one for the show, I saw a pic of the new costume a couple of weeks ago and it looks terrible. It was a pi true of her running through the streets.

meh. Not impressed. How the hell that's suposed to compare with the real thing I have no idea.

They don't make 'em like they used to.

Didn't they already cancel the show? I thought I read that it was done without airing a single episode.

You do know that the "real thing" was created way before Lynda Carter, right?

Re: New Wonder Woman!

My problem is not with the costume nor the actress chosen, and I need refrain from condemning the scripts until they are aired . . . obviously. However, I always found the character of Wonder Woman to be pretty damn lame. In fact, with the exception of a few of Marvel's X-Women, I find ALL female superheroes to be, bustiers or not, flat and one-dimensional.

Yeah, because male superheros are just so deep...

Not wrong, but not entirely accurate either, as even many of the "lesser" male heroes are fleshed out more completely. It may likely be due to the fact that men totally dominate the comics industry, as creators, writers, artists, and consumers, and thus they are less able to produce (or relate to) a more rounded female character.

Though by "rounded" I of course mean emotionally and personally, as opposed to physically. :r

Very true. Black Canary and Oracle are about the only female heroes that I can think of that have any depth to their character over at DC. Like you said, it's the result of a male dominant industry with a primarily male audience. Stereotypical gender roles will always exist, I guess.

My problem with Wonder Woman is not the original character herself (who broke stereotypical gender roles when she was introduced), but the constant need to redefine and revamp her character every couple of years. We don't need a complete makeover each and every year.

Unfortunately the series is not going to happen. A pilot was made and NBC passed on it as having too many problems. So, for now, it is a dead issue.

She's not the only one, Andy. Both DC and Marvel have put characters through the ringer for maybe 15 years now, feeling the need to shake things up every year or two. Me, I put most of the blame on the "Comics Boom" in the '90s (which coincided with the more-familiar to Inmates "Cigar Boom" of the same period . . . by coincidence??), and which came close to bankrupting the industry when it fizzled. Once "investors" found out that their un-read mint condition bagged-and-boarded alternate cover issue of a comic printed by the millions was NOT gonna fund their retirement, they fled in droves and left the genre to the fanboys . . . where it belongs. But it took the marketing experts at the publishing houses too long to recognize this fact, and to reduce their output to better reflect the diminished market. Thus all the redos, makeovers, crossovers, death and resurrections, and whatever trick they could pull to try and artificially stimulate sales.

Now I understand they are making Aquaman into a villain . . . as if old Bubble-breath scares anybody. :r

Yes, that is true, but it seems she gets it more than any other big name character (with the exception of GL). Superman, Batman, Spidey, and Wolverine go through lots of changes, but they are the same characters of old. Wonder Woman seems to be rewritten completely every few years.

I was a fan of the 90s stuff. Loved the Death of Superman and Knightfall gimmicks, but you're right that there was way too much and that resulted in the death of the comic book/graphic novel. The industry still isn't out of the woods yet, IMHO. My biggest problem in the 90s were the constant variant covers (foil, gold, different artists, etc) which merely raised the price of the issue by a dollar or two more.

Nice comparison between the Cigar Boom and the Comic Boom.:tu
