Isla Del Sol vs Tabak Especial

I was looking through the brands of Drew Estate and I love Tabak Especial. But I ran across Isla Del Sol, Which says its also made with Bean Coffee :)

Has anyone compared them? Id like to Try one out they look to be pretty cheap by the box.

Sammy -

My dad only smokes flavored cigars pretty much. His favorite was the Kahlua, but when it went out of production he began a long search...Havana Honeys, CAO Flavors, and the two you mentioned. He was sold on Isla del Sol as his favorite and burned through a ton of boxes.

Then for a gift a few months ago I gave him a box of Tabak, and he went nutso - said they were better than the Kahlua.

So...his preference is Tabak, but he still really enjoys Isla - similar profile, Tabak is better to him, but also nearly twice the $.

If you like Tabak, you'll like the Islas...maybe just not quite as much!

I Saw that..

Thats kinda why I was asking about them.. Me and MPD340 Bought a Box of tabak and Split it.. We got it on Cigar Bids for 67 bucks. But for 40 bucks and not alot of difference, I need to try a Isla Del Sol I think. Could be a good Cheaper Alternative.

Thanks for the info.

I'm sure they are on Cbid as well...The Tatiana Mocha are pretty good as well, still have that coffee like flavor to it; I've had all 3 and I prefer the Mocha, and I'm not big on flavored stuff.

I've joined this board to broaden my horizon on the cigars that I smoke because I want to open new doors. However prior to this I have been smoking strictly coffee cigars. The Tobak's are the ones I have chosen as my favorite. Isla's are good in my opinion but they certainly take back seat to the Tobak's.

In my opinion.

Oh I Totally Agree, (Even though I Havent tried the Isla's) But Id like to try one out and see if its a good Cheaper Alternative to the Tubak. I Dont want to spend 60 bucks for a box for an everyday smoke if I dont have too. Im not rich but I love these Coffee Cigars. And Im.. Cheap.. or like most Americans, Lacking cash for cool stuff! :)

Re: Isla Del Sol vs Tabak Especial

The biggest difference is that the Tabak's are infused where the Isla's are flavored. Flavored cigars are made by spraying the leaf with flavorings as they are rolled or just before rolling. Therefore much stronger and less subtle. Infused cigars are made by curing the leaf in special rooms where the oils are allowed to absorb the flavoring compounds at a much slower rate. :2

Re: Isla Del Sol vs Tabak Especial

Bob, AFAIK, Isla del Sol's are infused. Jon doesn't make any spray or dipped flavored cigars that I'm aware of. They are mixed filler though.

CAO Flavours are the sprayed ones and they're made by Torano IIRC (I know their traditional stuff is all Torano, with the exception of the Vision, which was La Aurora)

Oh, wow, there's a name I haven't heard in awhile - Tatianas, yes, most definitely a flavored cigar. I forgot all about them (thankfully).

Drew Estates makes the JAVA for Rocky Patel.

Other coffee cigars off the top of my head...
-Drew Estates - JAVA, Isla del Sol, Tabak Especal,
-the Tatiana line as mentioned by Bob earlier,
-Kopi Luwak by Oliveros,
-Leon Jimenes coffee cigars by La Aurora in tins and larger vitolas
- CAO Flavours Carmelo Joe

There might be others too.

Not all of them are infused like the Drew Estates products, so you might get something that smokes like a coffee hard candy.

Keep trying, cbid can be kind of fickle at times. Some weeks certain cigars will go for a fraction of what they were closing at previously, only to return to the higher closing prices a few days later.

Also, keep an eye on the "secret" CI special deal pages. The deals change once a week and you never know what they are going to put on those pages.

Hey...

Just picked up this email (I received it 9 hours ago, but I haven't been around email all day) and thought of this thread.

10 Tabak Especial Red Eyes (4.5" x 54) for $39.95 and includes free shipping. I'd guess it expires Monday, probably at midnight(?).

Same here! One thing I noticed is the Robustos are not as good as the Coronas my personal opinion. The Robustos dont have near the flavor to them.
