That was the first thing I thought when I saw it. The second was the smart-a$$ quip.
I just thought it was funny that waxy was making these museum pieces and now I see him making coolers.
It caught me as funny, lol. That is a severely sweet setup for a lowly cooler.

Re: Bring on the Coolers

The one with the green cooler Ed made for me. I can't wait for it to arrive. He was a pleasure to work with.

The price was extremely reasonable.

I know there are plenty who think it is crazy to put that much effort into a cooler but I have my reason.

I have several of those party stacker coolers and in fact may not end up using all 3 trays in the same cooler. I prefer them to the larger 100 qt coolers (these are 33 qt) for several reasons. The dimensions are great for fitting boxes and the like. I only open the cooler I need and don't change out the air for all my cigars by having them in one cooler. They come in different colors (I have Anejo and opus cooler, this green one will be for padrons).

I have a desktop humi, although I am about to order one from ED. I keep a 30 or 40 smokes in it and that is enough. Bulk storage capacity is provided by the coolers.

I think they would be a great system for someone starting out also. The coolers come in 2 depths (one should fits 2 trays fine) and this size. You could start with one cooler and one tray. Add coolers that will all stack as you need them and add trays as you need them.

I had Ed make 3 compartments 6.5 inches high. For toro's which is what I mainly smoke and 5.5 inches wide for the outside 2. This will allow me to fill it with Robustos in one directions or toros the other. The drawers are about 3 inches deep so a whole box would fit in some of the compartments.

The top two Churchill size compartments are over 7 inches long.

Just so you know that coleman extreme has a very significant tapper from the top to the bottom. Most coolers do I realize but it is much more significant on that model.

Let me know if you go with the 70 quart. I have this one myself and if you do a setup with Ed, I'd love to see what the final product looks like.

If I used coolers I would want a setup like that, but also some fancy outer shell to make my cooler look like a humidor!

:)

Carlton McLendon's in Atlanta....

Re: Bring on the Coolers

Tray pricing for these or any other spanish cedar tray work....

Trying to keep it simple... It don't matter if it's large or small...

1 to 4 pieces - $25.00/piece plus wood cost
5-8 pieces - $22.50/piece plus wood cost
8 or more pieces - $20.00/piece plus wood cost.

The trays on the coolers take about 2 board feet each - give or take. Spanish cedar is $6.00 per board foot currently...

I am going to buy 5 of these coolers and build 'em out just like this... and they'll be available for $150 each - plus shipping.

If it goes well, I may get more.... any takers?

What capacity are these coolers, Ed?

ajacobs 01-20-2011 10:41 AM

Re: Bring on the Coolers

They are 33qt. Or about 1900 cubit inches. I am not sure how that best translates to cigar capacity.

The industry figures 100 cigars for every 700 cubic inches... so, right around 275.... But, seems like it should be more.....

Awesome work! When I upgrade to a larger cooler, I will be hitting you up for sure. This is a great way to utilize your entire cooler, a much better method than say stacking the traditional pre-made trays that go for 10 bucks.

Re: Bring on the Coolers

Wow!

For all the years I have had my coolidors, this was exactly what I always envisioned it "should" look like if I had the skills. I know I can't afford a WM humi, but those trays are definitely something I can see myself getting to improve my setup 100% and eliminate box tetris.

Great Work!

Holy Heck!
Just stumbled on this old thread while searching to see if anyone else is using the Coleman Party Stackers™ for cigar storage.
Those Spanish cedar trays are brilliant!
Does the OP still offer them? If so, I'm definitely in for a trio.
I love my stackable Party Stackers and these trays would definitely take my mess up a notch.
