These are being made along side the production sticks to be released at some point in the future. Only difference is the early release and a covered foot.

I do like the black labels but......For their size they are quite pricey @ $8.52 a piece for a 6x38 stick? No deals on the box prices either, even if you buy 35 sticks!

Brutus2600 01-06-2011 09:29 PM

Re: Tatuaje Black Label Petite Lancero

The SODO was what...$11 a stick? Same size.

I'll pay $8.50 for a good lancero.

But yeah, Tatuaje's limited releases are never cheap :(

Good to know that a regular release is on it's way!

I am glad these will be regular production.

Well I will try but I never have luck with his special release. Good to know I have a shot a production once it comes out. Never dealt with this company so I just signed up for an account so hopefully I just have to log in tomorrow and get lucky.

Where did you learn this information?

Re: Tatuaje Black Label Petite Lancero

I don't have any idea on the future production scale, if any, of these cigars, but I can tell you why there are only 200 boxes right now...

...That's how many boxes Pepin's box shop made by accident.

When we were down in Nicaragua at the beginning of November on the Drew Estates Cigar Safari, Pete was down at the My Father factory and spending quite a bit of time hanging out with us, at one point he comes over with a big smile on his face and says something like "As of a few minutes ago, it now looks like I'm releasing a Tat Black petite lancero. <big grin> Pepin's box shop made a mistake and made 200 boxes*, and since I hate waste, and I already have the cigars, I'm going to release them."

*: the wrong size or by accident - I forget exactly which Pete said. He didn't want Pepin to have to absorb the cost of the boxes.

Pete Johnson said it yesterday on BOTL

He also said the initial release won't be wet packed because they will be fresh. The regular production ones will be wet packed.

I find this very interesting given that a couple years ago when the Black CG's came out they were supposed to be a limited release that was not going to be regular production. Not due to the size, but due to the leaf/crop available. It seems that the black series has done so well he "found" more black material.

I don't recall Pete ever claiming that these or the previous Tat Blacks were from the same crop. Just that the blend is the same.

If Pepin has grown more leaf that is suitable for the cigars, and Pete wants to make them, then what's the big deal? It's just a recurring limited release that changes vitolas over the years when it comes out. Not the first time something like this has been done.

I didn't explain that correctly. I will have to find the discussion, but he claimed that Blacks were going to be his personal stash, then said that they were a one time thing, and now they are going to regular production? I didn't mean to say the same exact crop, but that the leaves used are supposed to be the same type.

I don't find it to be a problem, but that was part of the hype of the cigars, that they were going to be VERY exclusive.

Understood. I seem to vaguely recall reading some of those statements too.

I think some clarification from Pete as to the production numbers and what he meant by "regular" might be in order. He might have just meant that this a split release due to the box fubar that brought about it's release in the first place Or maybe it will be a low volume continuous production. I don't know, but I can see it possibly meaning either.

----

EDIT: I'm re-reading Pete's posts about the cigar production on another board, and it really does sound more like a split (early) release and then a limited release and he might have been referring to how factory workers are dedicated to a project. But I'll ask just to clarify.

It's the difference of being rolled on the thighs of 18y/o virgin women vs. more "seasoned" gals. :r

Wet packed are when the cigars are wrapped in foil packaging immediately after being rolled. (do not think they go to the drying room at all..) Supposed to help with long term aging..

Since these will be fresh and meant to be smoked when released there is no need to wet pack them.

The cigars for later release will be wet packed since they will be sitting a while before release.

Same here, and if I really like them it would be nice to have one of the wet packed boxes to lay down for a bit.

Ordered a box.

I put my order in the second it showed up on the site. Hopefully I scored a box because I really enjoy the black label tubos and the one puff I had off a Black robusto at Epic 3.

I figure that if they're bad, someone will want them.

Ordered a box and a fiver figure I'll smoke the fiver and if it's not my taste I'll sell the box either as a whole or fivers like quantim0 said someone will want them.

From TG's website:

"We have SOLD OUT!

The response the the Tatuaje Black Label Petite Lancero has been amazing! The lion's share of these cigars sold in the first 15 minutes. Orders have exceeded the out of state allocation. However, we have just made an executive decision to fulfill all of the orders that have been received today.

We apologize if you weren't able to get your order in.
Please CLICK HERE if you would like to be put on the reserve list.

Thank you for your continued support!"

No rush, I'm actually waiting for the general release. I'd rather have some that are wet packed anyway. Hoping those will be more similar to the original CG goodness.

I ended up buying a box. I will pick up a box or so of the wet packed and put them down for a long, long sleep.

I shot Pete a message asking for a bit more detail on the production and I mentioned the previous "limited / exclusive nature" commentary to which Wayne and I were talking about earlier in the thread, and Pete's reply was (reprinted verbatim with permission):

Thanks for the additional information - very interesting. I wonder if Pete might consider a true Corona (5 1/2" x 42) in the Black Label line? This size, with something like a flag cap, would be an incredible smoke, IMO. The medium ring-gauges have always been the best "show-case" for all of the Tat blends, and I've always wondered why this specific vitola has been ignored by them.

The guys at Tobacco Grove are GREAT! This was my home B&M, when I lived in MN. Sweet place to hang out and smoke. Unfortunately, the taxes up there are killer  Of course, they don't have to pass those along, on out of state internet orders.
