Holiday Cocktails
Lets see those recipes for traditional and non-traditional Holdiay Cocktails that you may have picked up during your travels and go over well at your house during the festive months.
Any good tips for a great eggnog, Irish hot cocoa, or hot buttered rum out there? The wife and her family don't really enjoy spirits strait up so I always end up in charge of finding something "frilly" that the ladys will like but the guys won't turn up their noses at. I stole this one from the food network for Hot Buttered Rum this year. Ingredients 1 stick unsalted butter, softened 2 cups light brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg Pinch ground cloves Pinch salt Bottle dark rum Boiling water Directions: In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Refrigerate until almost firm. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture into 12 small mugs. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug (filling about halfway). Top with boiling water (to fill the remaining half), stir well, and serve immediately. |

through family of family...
"The Rum Drink" Rum, cider, squeeze of lemon. Stir over ice, then put some drops of bitters on top. Very tasty, we make it from time to time... |

my family usually drinks bourbon

Re: Holiday Cocktails
Did a trial run of the Hot Buttered Rum. Substituted all spice instead of cloves and added a half a stick of butter. Turned out pretty tasty. I'm thinking a little vanilla will put the cherry on the top!

Re: Holiday Cocktails
We started drinking Dark and Stormy's. I am not much for mixed drinks unless I am at clubs, but I love this cocktail at home . Goes great with cigars too!
2 oz Dark rum 8 oz ginger beer Pour rum over ice, add ginger beer, and stir. |
Re: Holiday Cocktails
peppermint schnapps in hot chocolate is always good too :)

Re: Holiday Cocktails
Tis the season for coughs and colds.
I made one of these last night. In a pint glass: 2 T honey 1 pat butter 1 (or 2) shots of your favorite dark spirit (scotch, rum, rye) Top off with hot water from the tea kettle. Stir vigorously to melt the butter and dissolve the honey. Good for what ails ya. Posted via Mobile Device |

Christmas is typically spike eggnog (brandy) and/or beer.
I do enjoy making coffee with disaronno and baileys. :tu |

Great recipes everyone. The Bourbon Slush looks very interesting. I may have to give that one a try next.

I don't have a recipe to add, but I just wanted to post because I need to mark this thread to come back to when I'm home and can access my liquor cabinet :r

Re: Holiday Cocktails
Cranberry Bog Nog (just made up the name, but it is something we make every year).
1 bottle of Cranbery juice (if you want to use a Cran-other fruit mix that's cool) equal amount of red wine (whatever you like, but we often use a burgundy - drier, but not expensive. 6 sticks of cinnamon 2 Earl Grey tea bags place contents in a large saucepan or crock pot and warm. You'll smell when it is ready. |

Black Seal is great for mixed rum drinks and is like $10 a bottle at Bermuda Duty Free! We got a take away case on my girlfriend's recent trip there this summer. Quote:
