Songs that speak to you
It happens to me very regularly that certain songs speak to me and they get plenty of airplay during that phase. Does this happen to anyone else?
Currently it is Behind Blue Eyes No one knows what it's like to be the bad man to be the sad man Behind blue eyes No one knows what it's like to be hated to be fated to telling only lies But my dreams they aren't as empty as my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely my love is vengeance that is never free No one knows what it's like to feel these feelings like I do And I blame you No one bites back as hard on their anger None of my pain and woe can show through But my dreams they aren't as empty as my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely my love is vengeance that is never free When my fist clenches, crack it open before I use it and lose my cool When I smile, tell me some bad news before I laugh and act like a fool If I swallow anything evil put your finger down my throat If I shiver, please give me a blanket keep me warm, let me wear your coat No one knows what it's like to be the bad man to be the sad man Behind blue eyes |

Old Crow Medicine Show
BEACON TOWN Summer's gone, cool winds are coming And all it's pleasures slip through my hands The leaves are falling all around me And the moon is rising slow again All the people stop and stare And they shake their heads as I pass them by Do I look troubled, do I look lonely? Do I look like I got tears to cry? Oh the hours, the daylight lingers All my deeds I leave undone Well through the night I hear the wolves are howling And then I dream the angels come Well a good man can always go wrong And sometimes the bad get it right Well in this life I can't do neither It's like turning the day to night Well it must be Sunday morning Or a holiday for the King For I can hear the bells are tolling Yeah and I can hear the choir sing And now i'm slipping in the river And watching all my bridges burn I'm looking right into the sun And i'll make it home when it come my turn Troubles, oh, they are upon me The lessons I have never learned Well send my ticket, send it one-way For i've got no bridges left to burn |
Re: Songs that speak to you
Hello,
Is there anybody in there Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home Come on now I hear you're feeling down I can ease your pain And get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb O.K. Just a little pin prick There'll be no more aaaaaaaah! But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on it's time to go. There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone And I have become Comfortably numb. |

Staind - All I Want Is You
What I leave, When you go, What I see, And what you show, And what I guess, And when I don't, Is something you all ready, all ready know, [Chorus:] I can't live without, All I think about, All I want is you, You're all I dream about, I can't live without, All I want is you, The things I do, I go through, And all I see, When Im awake, And what I make, The **** that I take, Is something you all ready, all ready know [Chorus:] I can't live without, All I think about, All I want is you, You're all I dream about, I can't live without, All I want is you, Ohhh,... Is you, Is you, Is you, Is you, You're all I dream about, That I can't live without, All I want is you [Chorus:] I can't live without, All I think about, All I want is you, You're all I dream about, I can't live without, All I want is you, I just can't live without you, When all I think about is you, And all I want is you |
Re: Songs that speak to you
On a daily basis it is one of these two -
B.B. KING lyrics - I Like To Live The Love My song is a serious matter It reflects what I feel If I say I love you, I mean it 'Cause in my song Every line is for real Every man or woman Enjoys going home To a peaceful situation To give love and receive love Without any complications Whether my tune is short or long Whether my lyrics are weak or strong I like to live the love That I sing about in my song I like to live the love That I sing about in my song Music is love And my love is music In perfect harmony So when I sing I have sung all about The love of you and me I never got angry with my guitar 'Cause when I strike a chord It gives me what I wanna hear So I'm finding out that We are quite like my song together, my dear Outside answers Should always be forbidden Problems should be solved And never hidden I like to live the love That I sing about in my song I like to live the love That I sing about in my song A Country Boy Can Survive - Hank Jr. The preacher man says it's the end of time And the Mississippi River she's a goin' dry The interest is up and the Stock Markets down And you only get mugged If you go downtown I live back in the woods, you see A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I can plow a field all day long I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too Ain't too many things these ole boys can't do We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive Because you can't stomp us out And you cant make us run Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun And we say grace and we say Ma'am And if you ain't into that we don't give a damn We came from the West Virginia coalmines And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot line And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive I had a good friend in New York City He never called me by my name, just hillbilly My grandpa taught me how to live off the land And his taught him to be a businessman He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights And I'd send him some homemade wine But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife For 43 dollars my friend lost his life Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes And shoot him with my old 45 Cause a country boy can survive Country folks can survive Cause you can't stomp us out and you can't make us run Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun And we say grace and we say Ma'am And if you ain't into that we don't give a damn We're from North California and south Alabam And little towns all around this land And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot line And a country boy can survive Country folks can survive |

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
It plays non-stop in my head. Cool thread Shawn. Play it here. We'll do it all, everything, on our own We don't need anything or anyone If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world I don't quite know how to say how I feel Those three words are said too much They're not enough If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life Let's waste time Chasing cars Around our heads I need your grace to remind me to find my own If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life All that I am All that I ever was Is here in your perfect eyes They're all I can see I don't know where Confused about how as well I just know that these things Will never change for us at all If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world |
Re: Songs that speak to you
(Just for Tom)
Poor old Johnny Ray Sounded sad upon the radio, he moved a million hearts in mono. Our mothers cried and sang along and who'd blame them. Now you're grown, so grown, now I must say more than ever. Go Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye and we can sing just like our fathers. Come on Eileen, I swear (well he means) At this moment you mean everything, With you in that dress my thoughts I confess verge on dirty Ah come on Eileen. These people round here wear beaten down eyes Sunk in smoke dried faces they're so resigned to what their fate is, But not us, no not us we are far too young and clever. Remember Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye Eileen I'll hum this tune forever. Come on Eileen, I swear, well he means Ah come on let's take off everything, That pretty red dress Eileen (Tell him yes) Ah come on let's, ah come on Eileen, please. |

Dead Can Dance - How Fortunate The Man With None
You saw sagacious Solomon You know what came of him, To him complexities seemed plain. He cursed the hour that gave birth to him And saw that everything was vain. How great and wise was Solomon. The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its wisdom that had brought him to this state. How fortunate the man with none. You saw courageous Caesar next You know what he became. They deified him in his life Then had him murdered just the same. And as they raised the fatal knife How loud he cried: you too my son! The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its courage that had brought him to that state. How fortunate the man with none. You heard of honest Socrates The man who never lied: They weren't so grateful as you'd think Instead the rulers fixed to have him tried And handed him the poisoned drink. How honest was the people's noble son. The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its honesty that brought him to that state. How fortunate the man with none. Here you can see respectable folk Keeping to gods own laws. So far he hasn't taken heed. You who sit safe and warm indoors Help to relieve out bitter need. How virtuously we had begun. The world however did not wait But soon observed what followed on. Its fear of God that brought us to that state. How fortunate the man with none. |

"Daughter" by Loundon Wainwright III
Everything she sees she says she wants. Everything she wants I see she gets. That's my daughter in the water everything she owns I bought her Everything she owns. That's my daughter in the water, everything she knows I taught her. Everything she knows. Everything I say she takes to heart. Everything she takes she takes apart. That's my daughter in the water every time she fell I caught her. Every time she fell. That's my daughter in the water, I lost every time I fought her. Find More lyrics at www.sweetslyrics.com I lost every time. Every time she blinks she strikes somebody blind. Everything she thinks blows her tiny mind. That's my daughter in the water, who'd have ever thought her? Who'd have ever thought? That's my daughter in the water, I lost everytime I fought her Yea, I lost every time. Re: Songs that speak to you
There's something in the way she moves,
Or looks my way, or calls my name, That seems to leave this troubled world behind. If I'm feeling down and blue, Or troubled by some foolish game, She always seems to make me change my mind. And I feel fine anytime she's around me now, She's around me now Almost all the time. And if I'm well you can tell that she's been with me now, She's been with me now Quite a long, long time And I feel fine. Every now and then the things I lean on lose their meaning, And I find myself careening Into places where I should not let me go. -- she has the power to go where no one else can find me, Yes, and to silently remind me Of the happiness and good times that I know, you know. Well I said I just got to know that: It isn't what she's got to say Or how she thinks or where she's been. To me, the words are nice, the way they sound. I like to hear them best that way - It doesn't much matter what they mean, Well she says them mostly just to calm me down. And I feel fine anytime she's around me now, She's around me now Almost all the time. And if I'm well you can tell that she's been with me now, She's been with me now Quite a long, long time And I feel fine. As well (no lyrics): Always and Forever by Pat Metheny Blame it on my Youth as played by Brad Mehldau |

Nickelback - If Everyone Cared
From underneath the trees, we watch the sky Confusing stars for satellites I never dreamed that you'd be mine But here we are, we're here tonight Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died And I'm singing Amen Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive And in the air the fireflies Our only light in paradise We'll show the world they were wrong And teach them all to sing along Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive (I'm alive) And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died When nobody died... We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day when nobody died Reason: When I woke up from my little coma adventure - this was playing. Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here Here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say it's all right Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here Here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say it's all right Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Sun, sun, sun, here it comes... Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say it's all right It's all right |

Scare Easy by Mudcrutch:
My love's an ocean You better not cross it Yeah I've been the distance And I need some rest Yeah I had somebody once And damn if I lost her I've been running Like a man possessed I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart And I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one Yeah, I am a loser At the top of my game I should have known To keep an eye on you Now I got a God It ain't never the same Yeah, I got a dream That don't ever come true I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart But I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one Sun going down On a canyon wall I got a soul That ain't never Been blessed Yeah and I'm a shadow At the back of the hall Yeah, I got a sin I ain't never confessed And I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart And I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one And I don't scare easy Don't fall apart When I'm under the gun You can break my heart But I ain't gonna run I don't scare easy For no one |
Re: Songs that speak to you
I had this one in a darker time in my life... and while I'm not there anymore, it still hits hard when I hear it. :al:al:al:hn
Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have I still recall The taste of your tears Echoing your voice Just like the ringing in my ears My favorite dreams of you Still wash ashore Scraping through my head 'Till I don't want to sleep anymore Come on tell me You make this all go away You make this all go away I'm down to just one thing And I'm starting to scare myself You make this all go away You make it all go away I just want something I just want something I can never have You always were the one To show me how Back then I couldn't do the things That I can do now This thing Is slowly taking me apart Grey would be the color If I had a heart I just want something I can never have In this place It seems like such a shame Though it all looks different now, I know it's still the same Everywhere I look You're all I see Just a fading ****ing reminder Of who I used to be I just want something I just want something I can never have I just want something I can never have Think I know what you meant That night on my bed Still picking at this scab |

Nice topic.
This one's pretty dark but it's where I'm at right now. Jesus & Mary Chain "Darklands" Im going to the darklands To talk in rhyme With my chaotic soul As sure as life means nothing And all things end in nothing And heaven I think Is too close to hell I want to move I want to go I want to go Oh something wont let me Go to the place Where the darklands are And I awake from dreams To a scary world of screams And heaven I think Is too close to hell I want to move I want to go I want to go Take me to the dark Oh God I get down on my knees And I feel like I could die By the river of disease And I feel that Im dying And Im dying Im down on my knees Oh Im down I want to go I want to stay I want to stay MCS |

The Green Fields of France
speaks to me about the honor and the horror the need for it, the futile-ness of it. Oh how do you do, young Willy McBride Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside And rest for a while in the warm summer sun I've been walking all day, and I'm nearly done And I see by your gravestone you were only nineteen When you joined the great falling in 1916 Well I hope you died quick And I hope you died clean Or Willy McBride, was is it slow and obscene Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined And though you died back in 1916 To that loyal heart you're forever nineteen Or are you a stranger without even a name Forever enshrined behind some old glass pane In an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest The sun shining down on these green fields of France The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance The trenches have vanished long under the plow No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now But here in this graveyard that's still no mans land The countless white crosses in mute witness stand To man's blind indifference to his fellow man And a whole generation were butchered and damned Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest And I can't help but wonder oh Willy McBride Do all those who lie here know why they died Did you really believe them when they told you the cause Did you really believe that this war would end wars Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame The killing and dying it was all done in vain Oh Willy McBride it all happened again And again, and again, and again, and again Did they beat the drums slowly Did they play the fife lowly Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down Did the band play the last post and chorus Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest |

Re: Songs that speak to you
Not Buffett's biggest or best known song by a wide margin, but the one I have always related to the most--Barometer Soup
Follow in my wake You've not that much at stake For I have plowed the seas And smoothed the troubled waters Come along let's have some fun The hard work has been done We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters Just for starters Barometer's my soup I'm descended from a deckhand on a sloop I travel on the song lines That only dreamers see Not known for predictability Come and follow in our wake You've not that much at stake For we have plowed the seas And smoothed the troubled waters Come along let's have some fun Seems our work is done We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters Sail the main course In a simple sturdy craft Keep her well stocked With short stories and long laughs Go fast enough to get there But slow enough to see Moderation seems to be the key Constantly searchin' Oh my eyes have seen some horizons And I've crossed the ocean for more than just thrills No I'm not the first Won't be the last You lust for the future But treasure the past Follow in my wake You've not as much at stake For I have plowed the seas And smoothed the troubled waters Come along let's have some fun The hard work has been done We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters |
Re: Songs that speak to you
This was my wedding song, and it rings true every day. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, my wife is my partner, my best friend, my soulmate, my life.
Somebody by Depeche Mode I want somebody to share Share the rest of my life Share my innermost thoughts Know my intimate details Someone who'll stand by my side And give me support And in return Shell get my support She will listen to me When I want to speak About the world we live in And life in general Though my views may be wrong They may even be perverted Shell hear me out And wont easily be converted To my way of thinking In fact shell often disagree But at the end of it all She will understand me I want somebody who cares For me passionately With every thought and With every breath Someone who'll help me see things In a different light All the things I detest I will almost like I dont want to be tied To anyones strings I'm carefully trying to steer clear of Those things But when Im asleep I want somebody Who will put their arms around me And kiss me tenderly Though things like this Make me sick In a case like this Ill get away with it |

Have you ever seen the rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Someone told me long ago theres a calm before the storm, I know; its been comin for some time. When its over, so they say, itll rain a sunny day, I know; shinin down like water. I want to know, have you ever seen the rain? I want to know, have you ever seen the rain Comin down on a sunny day? Yesterday, and days before, sun is cold and rain is hard, I know; been that way for all my time. til forever, on it goes through the circle, fast and slow, I know; it cant stop, I wonder. I want to know, have you ever seen the rain? I want to know, have you ever seen the rain Comin down on a sunny day? Yeah! I want to know, have you ever seen the rain? I want to know, have you ever seen the rain Comin down on a sunny day? |

My Morning Jacket - "Anytime" Is this "climbing up to the moon?" Or is it bailing out too soon? I hope we didn't wait too long. All that I wanted to say, words only got in the way. But then I found another way to communicate. Is this "climbing up to the moon?" Or is it fadin out too soon?? I know we didn't, I know we didn't wait too long, cause anytime's a good time to move on. Things I could say to myself, I could never say to anyone else. But what madonna said really helped, she said: "boy, you better learn to express yourself!" I know we didn't, I know we didn't wait too long. Cause anytime's a good time to move on |

Life of Agony "My Mind is Dangerous"
I look in the mirror and guess what I see A baby blue eyed spirit who seeks your everything My mind is chaotic, unless I choose to be free Sometimes I just can't help myself, sometimes I just can't help myself My mind is dangerous, that's who I'll always be My mind is dangerous, that's who I'll always be Hideous devastations, lifeless serenity My abstract emotions, somehow, get the best of me Lord take away my sorrow, Lord take away my pain Erasing life tomorrow, ain't the motive to the game My mind is dangerous, that's who I'll always be My mind is dangerous, that's who I'll always be Erasing life tomorrow ain't the motive to the game Erasing life tomorrow ain't the motive to the game |

Re: Songs that speak to you
One song for the greatest regret of my life, one for the happiest day of my life, and one that I think about while I'm gone from my family....again.
My Immortal - Evanesence I'm so tired of being here Suppressed by all my childish fears And if you have to leave I wish that you would just leave 'Cause your presence still lingers here And it won't leave me alone These wounds won't seem to heal This pain is just too real There's just too much that time cannot erase [Chorus:] When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears And I held your hand through all of these years But you still have All of me You used to captivate me By your resonating light Now I'm bound by the life you left behind Your face it haunts My once pleasant dreams Your voice it chased away All the sanity in me These wounds won't seem to heal This pain is just too real There's just too much that time cannot erase [Chorus] I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone But though you're still with me I've been alone all along You're the Inspiration - Chicago You know our love was meant to be the kind of love that lasts forever. And I want you here with me from tonight until the end of time. You should know everywhere I go Always on my mind in my heart in my soul baby. You're the meaning in my life you're the inspiration. You bring feeling to my life you're the inspiration. Wanna have you near me I wanna have you hear me sayin': No one needs you more than I need you. And I know yes I know that it's plain to see: So in love when we're together. Now I know that I need you here with me From tonight until the end of time. You should know everywhere I go Always on my mind you're in my heart in my soul. You're the meaning in my life. you're the inspiration. . . . Wanna have you near me I wanna have you hear me sayin': No one needs you more than I need you. You're the meaning in my life you're the inspiration. You bring feeling to my life you're the inspiration. When you love somebody 'til the end of time When you love somebody always on my mind No one needs you more than I. When you love somebody 'til the end of time . . . When you love somebody 'til the end of time Faithfully - Journey Highway run into the midnight sun Wheels go round and round You're on my mind Restless hearts sleep alone tonight Sending all my love along the wire They say that the road ain't no place to start a family Right down the line it's been you and me And loving a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be Oh Highway run into the midnight sun Wheels go round and round You're on my mind Restless hearts sleep alone tonight Sending all my love along the wire They say that the road ain't no place to start a family Right down the line it's been you and me And loving a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be Girl you stand by me I'm forever yours faithfully Circus life under the big top world We all need the clowns to make us laugh Through space and time Always another show Wondering where I am lost without you And being a part ain't easy on this love affair Two strangers learn to fall in love again I get the joy of rediscovering you Oh girl you stand by me I'm forever yours faithfully Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh faithfully I'm still yours I'm forever yours Ever yours faithfully |

Re: Songs that speak to you
Greatest Heavy Metal Song EVER written. This is the song that will be played at my funeral....
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name Im waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime Reflecting on my past life and it doesnt have much time Cos at 5 oclock they take me to the gallows pole The sands of time for me are running low When the priest comes to read me the last rites I take a look through the bars at the last sights Of a world that has gone very wrong for me Can it be theres some sort of error Hard to stop the surmounting terror Is it really the end not some crazy dream Somebody please tell me that Im dreaming Its not so easy to stop from screaming But words escape me when I try to speak Tears they flow but why am I crying After all I am not afraid of dying Dont believe that there is never an end As the guards march me out to the courtyard Someone calls from a cell God be with you If theres a God then why has he let me die? As I walk all my life drifts before me And though the end is near Im not sorry Catch my soul cos its willing to fly away Mark my words please believe my soul lives on Please dont worry now that I have gone Ive gone beyond to see the truth When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then youll begin to understand Life down there is just a strange illusion. |

To me this song seems to be about someone taking their life and not that I think about doing it but my step-sister did. This has just always been a powerful song to me
Megadeth - À Tout Le Monde Don't remember where I was I realized life was a game The more seriously I took things The harder the rules became I had no idea what it'd cost My life passed before my eyes When I found out how little I accomplished All my plans denied So as you read this know my friends I'd love to stay with you all Please smile when you think of me My body's gone that's all À tout le monde [To all the world] À tout mes amis [To all my friends] Je vous aime [I love you] Je dois partir [I have to leave] These are the last words I'll ever speak And they'll set me free If my heart was still alive I know it would surely break And my memories left with you There's nothing more to say Moving on is a simple thing What it leaves behind is hard You know the sleeping feel no more pain And the living are scarred À tout le monde [To all the world] À tout mes amis [To all my friends] Je vous aime [I love you] Je dois partir [I have to leave] These are the last words I'll ever speak And they'll set me free So as you read this know my friends I'd love to stay with you all Please smile, smile when you think about me My body's gone that's all [2x] À tout le monde [To all the world] À tout mes amis [To all my friends] Je vous aime [I love you] Je dois partir [I have to leave] These are the last words I'll ever speak And they'll set me free |
Re: Songs that speak to you
My daughter's Sweet Sixteen birthday party is coming up in a couple of weeks and I dunno, this one has been on my mind lately....
CLEANING THIS GUN - Rodney Atkins The Declaration of Independence Think I could tell you that first sentence But then I’m lost I can't begin to count the theories I've had pounded in my head That I forgot I don't remember all that Spanish Or the Gettysburg address But there is one speech from high school I'll never forget (Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her mama's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Ain’t it son? Hey y'all run along and have some fun I'll see you when you get back Bet I’ll be up all night Still cleanin' this gun Well now that I’m a father I’m scared to death one day my daughter Is gonna find That teenage boy I used to be That seems to have just one thing on his mind She’s growin' up so fast It won't be long before I’ll have to put the fear of god into Some kid at the door (Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her mama's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Now ain't it son? Y’all go out and have some fun I'll see you when you get back Probably be up all night Still cleanin' this gun Now it's all for show Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt It’s just a daddy thing And hey, believe me, man it works (Chorus) Come on in boy sit on down And tell me about yourself So you like my daughter do you now? Yeah we think she's something else She's her daddy's girl Her mama's world She deserves respect That’s what she'll get Now ain't it son? Y’all run along and have a little fun I'll see you when you get back Probably be up all night Still cleanin' this gun Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty. Drive safe. |
Re: Songs that speak to you
This was the song that was playing when the funeral procession pulled into the Fort Snelling National Cemetary for my father's funeral:
Epiphany - Staind Your words to me just a whisper Your faces so unclear I try to pay attention Your words just disappear 'Cause its always rainin in my head Forget all the things I should have said So I speak to you in riddles 'cause my words get in my way. I smoke the whole thing to my head and feel it wash away 'cause i can't take anymore of this, I want to come apart. or dig myself a little hole inside your precious heart 'Cause its always raining in my head Forget all the things I should have said I am nothing more than a little boy inside That cries out for attention yet I always try to hide 'Cause I talk to you like children, Though I don't know how I feel But I know I'll do the right thing If the right thing is revealed 'Cause its always raining in my head Forget all the things I should have said |

Time - Pink Floyd
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired Its good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells |

Linkin Park: What I've Done
In this farewell There’s no blood There’s no alibi ‘Cause I’ve drawn regret From the truth Of a thousand lies So let mercy come And wash away What I’ve done I’ve faced myself To cross out what I’ve become Erase myself And let go of what I’ve done Put to rest What you thought of me Well I cleaned this slate With the hands Of uncertainty So let mercy come And wash away What I’ve done I’ve faced myself To cross out what I’ve become Erase myself And let go of what I’ve done For what I’ve done I’ll start again And whatever pain may come Today this ends I’m forgiving what I’ve done I’ve faced myself To cross out what I’ve become Erase myself And let go of what I’ve done What I’ve done Forgiving what I’ve done |
Re: Songs that speak to you
You'll never walk alone
When you walk through a storm hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark. At the end of a storm is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind, Walk on through the rain, Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone, You'll never, ever walk alone. Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone, You'll never, ever walk alone. |
Re: Songs that speak to you
The four part masterpiece from "Close to the Edge". The albums title track is the one that was to have been showcased but I always felt this one overshadows it.
Yes: And You and I I. cord of life (anderson/bruford/howe/squire) A man conceived a moments answers to the dream, Staying the flowers daily, sensing all the themes. As a foundation left to create the spiral aim, A movement regained and regarded both the same, All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you. Changed only for a sight of sound, the space agreed. Between the picture of time behind the face of need, Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid, Emotion revealed as the ocean maid, All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you. Oh. Turn round tailor, coins and Assaulting all the mornings of the crosses Interest shown, never know Presenting one another to the cord, their fruitless worth; All left dying, rediscovered cords are broken, Of the door that turned round, locked inside To close the cover, the mother earth. All the interest shown, they wont To turn one another, to the sign hide, hold, they wont At the time tell you, watching the world, To float your climb. watching all of the world, Watching us go by. And you and I climb over the sea to the valley, And you and I reached out for reasons to call. Ii. eclipse (anderson/bruford/squire) Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid, Emotion revealed as the ocean maid, As a movement regained and regarded both the same, All complete in the side of seeds of life with you. Iii. the preacher the teacher (anderson/bruford/howe/squire) Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time; Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme. They'll be no mutant enemy we shall certify; Political ends, as sad remains, will die. Reach out as forward tastes begin to enter you. Ooh, ooh. I listened hard but could not see Life tempo change out and inside me. The preacher trained in all to lose his name; The teacher travels, asking to be shown the same. In the end, well agree, well accept, well immortalise That the truth of the man maturing in his eyes, All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you. Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid, As a moment regained and regarded both the same, Emotion revealed as the ocean maid, A clearer future, morning, evening, nights with you. Iv. apocalypse (anderson/bruford/howe/squire) And you and I climb, crossing the shapes of the morning. And you and I reach over the sun for the river. And you and I climb, clearer, towards the movement. And you and I called over valleys of endless seas. |

Daniel Lanois - The Maker
Oh, Oh Deep water Black, and cold like the night I stand with arms wide open I've run a twisted mile I'm a stranger in the eyes of the maker I could not see for fog in my eyes I could not feel for the fear in my life From across the great divide In the distance i saw a light Jean baptiste walking to me with the maker My body is bent and broken by long and dangerous leaps I can't work the fields of abraham and turn my head away I'm not a stranger in the eyes of the maker Brother john Have you seen the homeless daughters standing there with broken wings I have seen the flaming swords there over east of eden burning in the eyes of the maker burning in the eyes of the maker burning in the eyes of the maker burning in the eyes of the maker oh river rise from your sleep |

Pink Floyd - On The Turning Away
On the turning away From the pale and downtrodden And the words they say Which we wont understand Don't accept that whats happening Is just a case of others suffering Or you'll find that you're joining in The turning away Its a sin that somehow Light is changing to shadow And casting its shroud Over all we have known Unaware how the ranks have grown Driven on by a heart of stone We could find that were all alone In the dream of the proud On the wings of the night As the daytime is stirring Where the speechless unite In a silent accord Using words you will find are strange And mesmerized as they light the flame Feel the new wind of change On the wings of the night No more turning away From the weak and the weary No more turning away From the coldness inside Just a world that we all must share Its not enough just to stand and stare Is it only a dream that there'll be No more turning away? |
Re: Songs that speak to you
Normally I can't even pay enough attention to any lyrics enough to remember them. I truly listen to rock for the guitar, and the song as a whole. Lyrics usually play little to no part in how much I like/remember a song, but the first time I heard "Broken, Beat & Scarred" from Metallica's Death Magnetic, it spoke to me for one of the first times a song ever has.
Metallica Broken, Beat & Scarred You rise, you fall, your down, then you rise again What don't kill you make you more strong You rise, you fall, your down, then you rise again What don't kill you make you more strong Rise, fall, down, rise again What don't kill you make you more strong Rise, fall, down, rise again What don't kill you make you more strong Through black days Through black nights Through pitch black insights Breaking your teeth on the hard life coming Show your scars Cutting your feet on the hard earth running Show your scars Breaking your life Broken, beat and scarred But we die hard The dawn, the death, the fight to the final breath What don't kill you make you more strong The dawn, the death, the fight to the final breath What don't kill you make you more strong Dawn, death, fight, final breath What don't kill you make you more strong Dawn, death, fight, final breath What don't kill you make you more strong They scratched me They scraped me They cut and rape me Breaking your teeth on the hard life coming Show your scars Cutting your feet on the hard earth running Show your scars Breaking your life Broken, beat and scarred But we die hard Breaking your teeth on the hard life coming Show your scars Cutting your feet on the hard earth running Show your scars Braiding your soul in a hard luck story Show your scars Spilling your blood in a hot suns foray Show your scars Breaking your life Broken, beat and scarred We die hard We die hard We die hard I'm at a point where it's hard to find reasons to persist, after repeatedly failing at the same things, the same ways. It's a good reminder to just get through it, let what's happened be a part of who I am, and move on. |

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. |
Re: Songs that speak to you
This one still gets me after a bunch of years.
Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. It's so noisy at the fair But all your friends are there And the candy floss you had And your mother and your dad. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. There's a girl just down the aisle, Oh, to turn and see her smile. You can hear the words she wrote As you read the hidden note. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. Now you're underneath the stairs And you're givin' back some glares To the people who you met And it's your first cigarette. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. Now you say you're leavin' home 'Cause you want to be alone. Ain't it funny how you feel When you're findin' out it's real? Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain With the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. Oh, to live on Sugar Mountain with the barkers and the colored balloons, You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon, You're leaving there too soon. |
Re: Songs that speak to you
There are a lot of great songs on this list. Songs that mean something to me. There are also apparently a lot of very somber moments in these songs. Stories that are clearly very personal. The curious part of me would love to know what those stories are. A totally different part of me knows that I don't want to really share my stories so I'm pretty sure most don't either.

Billy Joel - The River of Dreams
That song has haunted me for over 25 years now. My family members keep telling me that it fits me perfectly, as I always seem to be looking/searching for something! http://www.vh1classic.com/view/artis...ms/index.jhtml In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep From the mountains of faith To the river so deep I must be looking for something Something sacred I lost But the river is wide And it's too hard to cross And even though I know the river is wide I walk down every evening and stand on the shore I try to cross to the opposite side So I can finally find what Ive been looking for In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Through the valley of fear To a river so deep Im a searcher for something Taken out of my soul Something I'd never lose Something somebody stole I don't know why I go walking at night But now Im tired and I don't wanna walk anymore Hope it doesnt't't take the rest of my life Until I find what it is Ive been looking for In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Through the jungle of doubt To the river so deep I know Im searching for something Something so undefined That it can only be seen By the eyes of the blind In the middle of the night Im not sure about a life after this God knows Ive never been a spiritual man Baptized by the fire, I wade into the river That is running to the promised land In the middle of the night I go walking in my sleep Though the desert of truth To the river so deep We all end in the ocean We all start in the streams Were all carried along By the river of dreams In the middle of the night |
Re: Songs that speak to you
Love this thread! It really does give you great insight into the person posting it.
The song that speaks to me probably the most would have to be A Perfect Circle's "3 Libras" "I threw you the obvious And you flew with it on your back A name in your recollection Down among a million same Difficult not to feel a little bit Disappointed and passed over When I look right through, See you naked but oblivious And you don't see me Here I am expecting just a little bit Too much from the wounded But I see, see through it all See through, see you 'Cause I threw you the obvious To see what occurs behind the Eyes of a fallen angel, Eyes of a tragedy Oh well, oh well Apparently nothing, Apparently nothing at all" Love the lyrics to that song. Honorable mention also goes to: Dead Can Dance - "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" Gary Jules - "Mad World" Damien Rice - "The Blower's Daughter" Devotchka - "How it Ends" |

In another life
You might have been a genius In another life You might have been a star In another life Your face might have been perfect In another life You’d drive a better car In another life All your jokes are funny In another life Your heart is free from fear In another life You make a lot of money In this other life Everything is clear In another life You’re always the hero In another life You always win the game In another life No one ever cheats you In another life You never have to change In another life Your friends never desert you In another life You never have to cry In another life No one ever hurts you In this other life Your loved-ones never die But this is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life you have This is the life In another life You’re always the victim In another life You’re always the thief In another life You are always lonely In this other life There is no relief In your real life Treat it like it’s special In your real life Try to be more kind In your real life Think of those that love you In this real life Try to be less blind Living Colour - This is the life, fantastic lyrics, great when you are in time of need, or when you are flying on cloud 9. |
Re: Songs that speak to you
A more serious note with this one:
The Mountain, by Steven Curtis Chapman I want to build a house up on this mountain Way up high where the peaceful waters flow To quench my thirsty soul Up on the mountain My faith is strengthened by all that I see You make it easy for me to believe up on the mountain Oh, up on the mountain I would love to live up on this mountain And keep the pain of living life so far away But I know I can't stay Up on the mountain I said I'd go, Lord, wherever You lead For where You are is where I most want to be And I can tell we're headed for the valley My faith is strengthened by all that I've seen So Lord help me remember what You've shown me Up on the mountain You bring me up here on this mountain For me to rest and learn and grow I see the truth up on the mountain And I carry it to the world far below So as I go down to the valley Knowing that You will go with me This is my prayer, Lord Help me to remember what You've shown me Up on the mountain Up on the mountain I cherish these times up on the mountain But I can leave this place because I know Someday You'll take me home to live forever Up on the mountain |
Re: Songs that speak to you
Yes....the theme from Hee Haw sings to me:
Gloom, Despair, and Agony On Me By: Buck Owens and Roy Clark Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me We figured she was rich, loaded to the hilt And we figured she had class like the Vanderbilts 'Cause we had heard for years how she was so well reared How was we to know they meant the way she was built Gloom, despair, and agony on me Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and agony on me :cb |

One Particular Harbour - Jimmy Buffett
Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei I know I don't get there often enough But God knows I surely try It's a magic kind of medicine That no doctor could prescribe I used to rule my world from a pay phone Ships out on the sea But now times are rough Oh I got too much stuff I can't explain the likes of me Chorus: But there's this one particular harbor So far but yet so near Where I see the days as they fade away Finally disappear But now I think about the good times Down in the Caribbean sunshine In my younger days I was so bad Laughin' about all the fun we've had I seen enough to feel the world spin Mixin' different oceans meetin' cousins Listen to the drummers and the night sounds Listen to the singers make the world go 'round Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Lakes below the mountain Flow into the sea Like oils applied to canvas Oh how they permeate through me But there's this one particular harbor Sheltered from the wind Where the children play on the shore each day And all are safe within A most mysterious calling harbor So far but yet so near Where I can see the day when my hair's full gray And I finally disappear Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei Ia ora te natura E mea arofa teie ao nei |
