Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
I've had my CPL since 2002. I was only 23 when I got mine. Gunboard didn't like me being so young but, Michigan had passed a shall-issue law the year before. Since my record was clean they had no choice but to issue it to me. In my defense, I haven't gone on any shooting sprees yet.

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
Nice! My wife and I both had ours in S.C. but could not transfer that to Texas so we have to take it all over again. Texas CHL class is a LOT LOT LOT more intensive that S.C. The classs is 8-6 on Nov 20. That will be a long day.

I wouldn't dare disclose such information!
But maybe ;) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
If we would only ban guns crime would diminish greatly. To many crazies running around scaring the sheeple to ever make me support having guns in there hands, but cigar smokers scare me the most!
I kid...I kid...I kid :r :r :r :r To answer your question, yes. |
Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
One of the first things I did when I moved to NC. My carry weapon is a Springfield Champion Lightweight 1911(.45).
What's the wait for them these days? I know before Obama you could get your permit in a few weeks here in NC after completing the classes. After Obama everyone freaked and it became 3 months. |
Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
They don't have concealed carry in my state, but I carry anyway.
|
Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
We have carry permits here.
You don't have to conceal. Which is a nice thing if the wind happens to blow your windbreaker or coat away. In some conceal states, that would cause you a "problem." And while I live in the "Nawth," the idea of a BBQ gun amuses me. Not that I have one of those. |

So, let me get this straight. She had a personal security detail and she still needed a CCW? Wow, a CCW must be more effective than most gun banners thought. Oh wait, she's a gun banner. What a paradox. If they aren't effective at preventing harm/crime, then why get one? If they are effective, why can't everyone else get one? :tpd: |

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
I've been wanting to get mine for a long time, but I also want to go into law enforcement after graduating. I've had several background investigators tell me it comes up as a red flag if you have a concealed care permit during backgrounds. So....I wait

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
We can't carry in a fed. courthouse/ courthouse complexes, school/daycare (unless excepted by the owner/principal), jails/correctional facilities/state hospitals, post offices, or in the restricted area of the airport. Other than that, it is fair game. The State capital requires you give them notice via a registered letter so you can be put "on the list." And while private businesses and such "can" post "appropriate signage" banning guns on the premises, it is only illegal if A. They make you. B. They subsequently ask you to leave. C. You DON"T leave. (and considering the requirements for getting the permit, and the typical permit holders adherence to laws, only the INCREDIBLY rare and stupid case would happen). It is a misdemeanor under MN law.

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
Nice guns folks. I will be looking for another carry gun after the first of the year. I want to go to Drurys here in SA and try out a BUNCH. I am initially thinking about a Kimber.

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
You guys that can get yours easily, count your blessings. Here in MD it's a real problem... unless you're politically connected, handle large amounts of cash or pharmaceuticals, or own your own business, forget it. If I weren't a business owner, I'd be SOL.

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
I have been wanting to do this for a long time and the laws here in Kentucky are pretty liberal, so that's not a problem. Every time I think about going through the class, I think, well, I probably wouldn't even carry it much. It seems that you are so limited where you can carry one, that it isn't much worth it. But, this thread made me reach out to an instructor today when I read it, so, I'll be scheduling soon. Steve

Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
Taking my fiancée to the range at 0730 tomorrow to start training her up. The course here doesn't do much as far as getting you truly ready. But hey I can fix that for her. She is excited. We just finished loading our mags for tomorrow. Congrats, its a heavy responsibility however one that I feel is needed.

Width (inches): 1.28 1911s are slim and easy to carry with an IWB (Inside the Waist Band) holster. You don't have to be huge to carry them, especially the shorter barrel models (3.5-4.25 inch barrels). If I was going to buy another one it would be the CDP Pro (4.25 inch barrel). http://www.kimberamerica.com/product...dp/pro_cdp_II/ http://www.kimberamerica.com/images/...pro_cdp_II.jpg I love the "melted" look they have. No sharp edges, all corners smoothed/rounded. Makes for no snags when drawing. Plus it has an aluminum alloy frame with a satin (low-gloss) stainless steel slide, Tritium 3-dot night sight, an ambi-safety, and weighs only 28oz. They can be had for much less than the MSRP of $1318. |
Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
That Kimber is very nice looking. My solution only weighs 15.9 oz. (6 or 7 rd cap)compared to the 28 oz. (7 rd cap) of the Kimber. It is only 9mm though. The .45 version is only 19.3 oz (5 rd)... Much easier to carry every day.
That being said, I would absolutely like a 1911 option, for varietys sake. http://www.para-usa.com/new/product_pistol.php?id=61 that one has tempted me a couple of times. I would like to shoot one. 24 ounces, 6 cap, Commander sized.. me likey. |
Re: Just registered to get my Concealed Handgun License
I am as big a fan of 1911's as anyone, my favorite autoloader design by far... but it bears mentioning that cocked and locked carry may not be for everyone. If you practice on a regular basis, are intimately familiar with the handgun, and your gun handling skills are impeccable, go for it. More casual users may be better served with a D/A auto or a wheelgun. :2
