Anyone want to talk me down from the ledge?

Anyone ever go through that phase where you have that one box or two of cigars that you probably know in the back of your mind you know you should keep, but you can think of something else to do with that money? There's no replacing them either. In my case, it's a box of Oliva MB1 torpedos and a box of MB2 robustos. I'm toying with the idea knowing that there's no way in hell they'll ever be replaced, but in the long run, they're just cigars and I can get something I'm just as likely to enjoy much cheaper to replace them. Does that make sense?

Normally I'd try and talk you down, but if funding was in place I'd give you a big push and buy those MB off you.

Yup, makes sense.
If you're not smoking them, sell them. Especially if you'll enjoy what you're gonna buy.
Add to that, you're liable to make someone VERY happy who is is actually going to smoke them. That's reward enough, right?

Happens all the time.

No I'm not talking you down.

Instead remember this: there is always some new, never to be had thing that pops up. if you had enough of the MBs to let em go then let em go and good riddence. I'm currently moving things out to support a house remodel to accomadate my mother in law so I know how that works.

Sell one and keep the other? :sh

sell half of each. Plenty of money to buy new stuff and then some people that are dying for these get to try them.

Did somebody say MB 1's? :xxx

5'ers? :sh

Yeah, I think you should get rid of a few. :)

For some reason, I feel like I'm trying to justify getting a box of Padron 1926 40th anniversary and a box of 1926 80th anniversary cigars. This pretty well gets me on my way I think.

I haven't even given a price yet, although I did sell a box of MB1 robustos a couple of months ago for $250 in a matter of minutes of them being listed here.

I checked the box and I have 18/20. I would include 2 MB1 churchills as "replacements" should I go forward. I think I would most likely only sell as an entire box though, but if there was more interest in 5ers, I would consider breaking them up. The box is quite a nice piece as well and those have generally brought $20-30 each I believe in the past.

Just a FYI. They are re-releasing the MB series. So while yours may be OR, and have some age on them, they "can" be replaced :)

I might be interested in a 5er depending on price.

This has been said for 2-3 years now at least, so I'll believe they're coming back out when I see it. I know they have more-it's just a matter of if/when.

My source was Jose himself.

I had the exact same conversation with him as well a couple of years ago. Like I said, it's been discussed about it "happening any time now", but this has been said quite some time ago.

They say a lot of things.

As for replacing, they won't be doing the tatoo on the cigar like they did with the MB1 and MB2, so....

I can't even see the F/S section yet.

They're cigars, they were made to be smoked.

If they were something that continued to rise in vaolue, then maybe. However, if you need the $$ right now, then these could help you raise the capital you need.

Re: Anyone want to talk me down from the ledge?

If you have no intentions of smoking them anytime soon, my vote would be for selling them and buying something else that you know you will smoke more regularly. Most of us are guilty of it and horde HTFs with good intentions of smoking them but just never find the right moment. Give them a loving home.

This is always a tough decision. Ultimately it is a personal one. Good luck to you. Fortunately there are always great cigars coming out and maybe when you are looking for something rare, someone else will be selling their rarities for you to scoop up.

Re: Anyone want to talk me down from the ledge?

I know you do not want advice out of ME, but I will tell you straight from someone who
buys everything and plans on keeping nothing. Think of it like a hard drive. YOUR LIFE
is on the drive, or so you think. You never back it up and then one day it goes out and
all that data is lost. But you wake up and it's still sunny, the russians have not taken
over, and you live your life with a minor inconvenience. Same with my VHS crap. I
recorded this, that and the other thing. Then one day, I lost my machine, and did not feel
like replacing it. All those programs, in stunning low fidelity, LOST forever. But in the
long run, I haven't missed anything but the poar-no, which I have replaced, as many of
you know, with french DVD poar-no.

You have stuff, you own it you lose it, life goes on, it's the fling of the week. If you
want something more, finance it with something you want less. You may be like me,
a whore for a sale, pressed onward by the thrill of the buy. In which case, don't put
too much stock in having anything in particular. There are only two things I have ever
owned that I wish I had never sold. A 1966 GTO and the other was a redhead I didn't own
or sell per se'.

One day I'd love to have a '65-'67 GTO. My dad had 2 before I was ever born, but it was always fun hearing him talk about them. One of them was totaled as he drove from the dealership to the BMV to get plates as someone pulled out in front of him.
