Mac Users: CleanMyMac Utility

Any Mac users here use CleanMyMac to keep their system clean?
I found it on the Apple website as a top download. Are there better ones out there.

And let's not turn this into a PC vs. Mac thing. I own a Mac and I need a utility.

There are some shareware that do the same kind of thing!

I have used MacJanitor for the past 5 years with no ill affects!

I may give CleanMyMac a try! Looks like it lets you do a lot more!

Re: Mac Users: CleanMyMac Utility

I don't even worry about it on my mac. I used the default Leopard install for 3 years, and just recently installed Snow Leopard from scratch on a new HD.

Is there a specific problem you are trying to address?

Use it on my mac and have had it since July so far I have cleaned 4 gigs of crap. Mostly language files and cache. Totally worth it.

Peter,
Can't find it.
Can you post a link to Apple?
Interested in seeing what it is.

Slow response. More frequent "spinning beachball"

The free demo version identified at least 4GB of crap on my laptop. Demo version will only clean 500MB

I use MacScan, but it's more geared toward spyware/trojan horses/key loggers. Seems like you are looking for something to defrag your hdd.

Yep. Cleanup & defrag. Optimization.

Peter,
Thanks for posting this.
Found it.
Downloaded it.
Bought it.

I am flying now compared to how things were recently slowing down.

Great program.

I wish I could speak from experience. I run three macs and have read about this program too many times. All positive. This thread may be my turning point to finally pick it up.

Re: Mac Users: CleanMyMac Utility

Just got my first Mac a couple of weeks ago and I'm struggling with how to use it. I'm having difficulty with how to move files around as easily as I did on my PC. There's gotta be an easier way, but I'm just finding myself to be a complete dunce about navigating through my Macbook compared to anything I've done with any version of Windows.

Im sure it's close to how you felt when you first started using windows. You'll get used to it.

Had to come back and restate it....................this program is amazing for what it did to getting my laptop back to what it was when I first got it.
This thing zips along now.

Excellent. Glad to hear it.
I may buy the multi-pack since I have an iMac and an iBook. And my son and daughter each have an iBook as well.

Just drag and drop!!!

For everything else, use ten steps less than what you are use to!!!

Sorry Peter, if I broke the rules!!!

Based on the recommendations in this thread I went ahead and grabbed it as well. I wasn't having any issues or anything but always good to have.

Anyone have any other useful apps that are a must-have for Macs?

Re: Mac Users: CleanMyMac Utility

I tend not to use many utilities as I tend to be very skeptical about the claims made. I have had my MacBook for a little over four years though and some things, especially FileMaker Pro which I use daily, had gotten really slow. I decided to use this based on the recommendations here and I cannot believe the difference!!! Everything is NOTICEABLY faster!!! Filemaker is screaming fast where it was painfully slow.

I don't know how this program does what it does, but I am a believer!!

There is a whole lot out there I must be missing.

Re: Mac Users: CleanMyMac Utility

I have been a Mac user since 1990. You used to have to have a bunch of utilites, tinker with the system a lot, and in general do a lot more system level upkeep. The system is so good now you really don't have to have/do a lot. This CleanMyMac is good though.

Re: Mac Users: CleanMyMac Utility

Peter, all cleaning utilities run the risk of deleting files your applications need, but used with caution they can certainly help your mac run more efficiently. Here's a site that contains a lot of user reviews for various programs and utilities. Just search for what you want and follow the "more" (opinions) link.

Peter: When I Saw A Review On CleanMyMac It Recommended Onyx, Also. Apparently You Have To Pay 29.95 Every 6 Months For CleanMyMac.

No, $29.95 gets you a lifetime license for CleanMyMac.

Sometimes you have to pay for quality programs, not everything is going to be open source, freeware. CMM is WELL worth $30.
