Game of Thrones
Anyone else as simultaneously excited and worried about this? The books are incredible, very dark, bloody as hell and I just can't seem to put them down. I just hope they will at least try to do the first book justice.

I love that they finally have some videos available now. Looks good so far. My wife and I cancelled HBO last year but might have to pick it back up again in 2011. Eric |
Re: Game of Thrones
I've started the first book, but never finished it. Looks like I won't be able to see it if it's only on HBO...
|
Re: Game of Thrones
i just wish he'd write the books faster. i've been waiting for the next one (A Dance with Dragons) for like 5 years now. ugh.
anyway, my thoughts on the show are positive. I've never really disliked the quality of an HBO show, so I think it will be good. |
Re: Game of Thrones
5 Years between books....that's reason enough not to start reading them.

My wife is really enjoying not paying for HBO now (more shoes for her) so I know it's going to be tough to get her to sign up again. I'm going to have to pick my battles here. I've been debating whether to pick up the NHL package or wait and see if I can get her to subscribe to HBO again. |

Might pick it up again, we'll see. |
Re: Game of Thrones
It got interesting for a little while, but once school started I couldn't read anymore and lost interest.
|
Re: Game of Thrones
the whole series is awesome. i could not put the books down once i started reading them. its been waaaaaay to long seance the last book. hope the show can live up.
|
Re: Game of Thrones
From the behind the scenes stuff on You Tube from HBO it looks like the series will be dead on. There are even interviews with George R.R. Martin talking about everything.
The lines are spot on from what you catch of them at times. |
Re: Game of Thrones
Like many of the Sci Fi series, I lost interest waiting for the next book to come out. This is one of several series that I started and no longer remember which books I have and haven't read. The books were good and I want to get back to the series at some point in future. Now where is that last WoT book?
|
Re: Game of Thrones
Hopefully he will get this next book done, and it will be the end. I hate when they go on and on and keep adding books. Wheel of Time just got terrible so much so that it ruined the first four books(that were actually good)

As far as the series, I'm really excited for it and only minimally worried (as much as anybody should be for a book to tv or movie transfer). With each preview however I'm more and more satisfied that HBO will do this series right. I just finished the fourth book Friday and I'm VERY much so looking forward to see this. Also can't wait for July 12th and the next book :tu |
Re: Game of Thrones
I just picked up the first four books. Hoping to be through the first before the show starts.
|
Re: Game of Thrones
You've got four days :tu Sit down with a good cigar and get to readin'! That's how I read most of the series ;) lol
|
Re: Game of Thrones
Don't know if I will like it as the preview didn't really capture my imagination. Will watch the first ep to see if its any good.

Re: Game of Thrones
I love the books. I was a little worried about this aswell because whenever I read a book then see a movie or show based on it I am usualy let down.
But I have watched the making of videos that have been made and the fact that the writer is pretty involved I have high hopes. I can't wait for this to start. |

I've never understood that with producers. You have an automatic fan base built right in to any series. Why stray and so far away from the source material where the characters have the same names and that's about it? I mean if the books are so good that it developed a fan base why not attempt to be faithful to the story and attract more fans while not losing the original fans? This doesn't seem to be the case with Game of Thrones. George R.R. Martin appears to have been very involved with the series and in the small making of segments they've had exact lines lifted from the novels in some inconsequential scenes. It appears to be very faithful to the source material. |

Luckily Brandon Sanderson is a great writer and seamlessly finished the book Jordan was halfway through and has done a great job finishing up the series so far. One more book and I'll finally finish this decade long love affair (completely with ups and downs), haha. I agree that Martin seems to have stayed true to the original story and has done a GREAT job telling to story...I just wish he could've released more than 4 books in a 15 year period :( Doesn't give me much hope that he'll finish the 7 book series by 2020, lol |
Re: Game of Thrones
I meant that they tried a TV series, it was called The Legend of the Seeker.
It lasted two seasons as it got so far off track from the books that it was just way different. |
Re: Game of Thrones
Oooooh yeah...I heard about the series and never watched it. It sounded awful.
|
Re: Game of Thrones
Just watched it and thought it was pretty good. First ones are always kinda slow but this one kept my interest and with the coming attractions it definetly looks good.
|
Re: Game of Thrones
I honestly think it was well done. But as someone who hasn't read the books, I wish they could have explained the overview of the kingdom just a bit, maybe through narration.

Re: Game of Thrones
Watched the premier last night and within the first 2 minutes I was so excited how closely they were sticking to the book and how well they translated those scenes into the show. I do agree though that there is some basic background that's covered in the book during the scenes that if I was watching it for the first time I would've been a little lost, but having read the series it was almost like going back and reading it again it was so well done.
So not to spoil any of it for people who haven't seen it or read the books, but so far I'm VERY impressed with the recreation of the scenes, every actor and actress matches their character in the book insanely well, and of course thank you HBO for making a great show with graphic nudity and violence. If they had taken that out it wouldn't have felt like the same story! |
Re: Game of Thrones
It had a pretty high breast per minute count!
|
Re: Game of Thrones
How can someone who has never read the books get into what's going on? Is just diving in and letting it happen going to be sufficient enough to get up to speed on the story?

Re: Game of Thrones
First episode was pretty good. I highly doubt I will ever read the books, so this series will be my one and only reference to them.
To everyone who knows the books, please be careful with the spoilers as the tv series unfolds...(not that you guys aren't, just wanted to reiterate that there are plenty of us out here who haven't and won't read the books) :D |
Re: Game of Thrones
After the debut episode HBO has signed on to produce the second book Clash with Kings!
How cool is that?! http://www.ugo.com/tv/game-of-thrones-second-season |
Re: Game of Thrones
Wow, after one episode? I mean, I'm sure they had a pretty good idea they would be continuing the series, but it's still great news :)

getting ready to watch the 2nd episode tonight, without any spoilers -how was it?
|
Re: Game of Thrones
Follows the book very closely!
It was good, the exciting stuff is yet to come! |
Re: Game of Thrones
awesome!
|
Re: Game of Thrones
2nd episode really stepped it up. I felt kind of lost after the first episode but I'm starting to get a better idea and it's getting more interesting
|
Re: Game of Thrones
I like this show.

Re: Game of Thrones
watched the first 2 tonight and enjoyed them both
hope that little prince and the queen get whats coming to them |

Lesson learned: Never screw with a prince, period. It's never going to end well. |
Re: Game of Thrones
Without spoiling anything, Prince Joffery and Queen Cersei are literally my most hated characters in the entire series. Prepare to be frustrated a lot by their actions.

Yeah, without a doubt these two are the prominent villains in this series.

Re: Game of Thrones
I really like this show because of the detail. I can re-watch the episode and still pick up on things I missed the first go around.
I can only imagine the detail in the books. ;) |
Re: Game of Thrones
The detail of the books is astoundingly vivid and rich!
I believe there are only seven books planned of the series with the fifth coming out this July. |
