Stevie is still a favorite for my family; my kids like him just as much as I do!

Can't believe it's been 20 years. Hope Stevie is kickin' it with Jimi and the rest in the big arena in the sky.

IMO Steve was the best. He played Hendrix songs better than Hendrix.

Truly legendary...

In school I followed a band called Storyville - incredible lead vocals by Malford Milligan and the band was Double Trouble, this has been more than 10 years ago but you can tell by the way they spoke that even professional musicians saw him as one of the best ever.

One of my favorites and Texan to boot!

Whew- yeah. I remember exactly where I was that day. I know it's a hoary cliche, but it really does feel like yesterday.

This may sound like an odd compliment, but bear with me: I've heard guys absolutely nail SRV cuts, note for note- spot-on execution- and just sound absolutely lifeless and terrible doing it, despite utter accuracy. That's how elusive is the soul that Stevie poured on with a bucket.

I remember where I could have been the night before....friend had tickets for the Clapton/Robert Cray/SRV concert at Alpine Valley. I went to see my new girlfriend instead. :hn

Ouch! I learned my lesson on that one.

I said "I'll catch him next time" to half a dozen Albert Collins shows. :sad

I'll never, ever forget the first time I heard SRV: a friend insisted that I listen to Texas Flood. I was a young guitar player at the time, and it forever changed the way I approach the instrument.

Re: Still missed 20 years later

I had the pleasure of seeing SRV 4 times all at Red Rocks in Colorado. Each time was truly memorable. I sure wish God hadn't taken him. I remember I was driving somewhere in the middle of Kansas moving back to Florida from Colorado when I heard about his death. I can't believe it has been 20 years!!!
