Tambolaka "Tambo" Pipe Tobacco
I just ordered a 100g bag of the "already prepared" pipe tobacco. Normally these come in 3 inch ropes (they look like cans of food) and is reputed to be very strong in Vitamin N (although not Black XXX rope strong, apparently).
This tobacco is from Indonesia and also contributes to the Tambo Cigar blend. Anyone have any experience with it? |

Re: Tambolaka "Tambo" Pipe Tobacco
I've probably smoked 75 g of Tambolaka, and it is certainly the strongest tobacco that I've smoked, but I like that. Eat before you smoke a bowl. If GH Brown Rope is a ten on the nicotine scale, Tambolaka is a fifteen.
If you buy it by the stick you get some 130 g for maybe a dollar more than the prepared tobacco. But be prepared for an arduous tobacco preparation-it took me 4 hours to prepare ~100 g the first time I tried it. That stick comes very dry and very, very dense. For me, it's the most profound tasting tobacco that I've smoked. Commensenseman on Puff.com has the most commentary about this tobacco online that I have seen. i had thought I had given you a sample to try, but it seems I only THOUGHT of giving you a sample to try. Remind me again sometime when I'm home and I'll "hook you up" as they say. |
Re: Tambolaka "Tambo" Pipe Tobacco
I have some of both presentations from a group buy gone awry if anyone would be interested. Same $ as the web $, I probably have three of each extra.

I still have a 10 inch stick of this that I should prepare someday! I cut some and tried to smoke it like a flake.... Don't do this ;-)

This was taken from the guy who ran the GB. There was a plastic wrapping around it, and the rope was used to keep it all bound together. |

Re: Tambolaka "Tambo" Pipe Tobacco
I got some Tambo in a group buy some time back----100grams pre cut. I loved the stuff.
So, when another buy came around, I ordered two sticks and a 100gram bag of processed. I got really queasy on every bowl I smoked. Surprising as I never had any problems with the previous sample. I sold it to another pipe smoker and he "got nailed" by it as well and passed it along to someone else. Perhaps I turned into a wimp in between orders, I don't know. I chewed Skoal for 40 years so am not especially sensitive to nicotine I don't think. Anyway, I was pretty let down as I so enjoyed the first bunch of Tambo. I've resigned myself to PS LNF and LTF which isn't the worst situation to be in:D WyoBob |

Freestoke (elsewhere) sent me a small bag of black tobacco cut down to a heavy coarse ribbon. I really don't know what to do with it - smoke it or blend it. It makes me nervous.

Re: Tambolaka "Tambo" Pipe Tobacco
You have to love strong tobacco to enjoy Tambolaka. The way it's cut doesn't matter, I don't think, but I've only rendered stick into something between a ribbon and flake, and for me it burns fine, no acrid smell.
On another note, my cut highlights the difference of how the stick chops up. It's sinewy, not pliable and soft. It is a one of a kind tobacco, but so are many others that originate in a tropical climate. |
Re: Tambolaka "Tambo" Pipe Tobacco
It is definately not for the faint of heart.
