Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
READ THIS CAREFULLY!
I'd like a newb that writes reviews and enjoys cigars for a little blind taste test fun. You need to have around 100 posts, at least 1 or 2 trader feedbacks (a send and receive in the NST, for instance) and to have written some reviews already. I'd like it if you're fairly new to smoking and just trying new stuff. You'd be obligated to write reviews and enjoy some cigars.. that's about it (painful, eh?). Post here why you should be the one and link some of your reviews. The way you write your reasons will be considered too... :tu Previous threads for reference (and some damned good reading, too:) ): Blind Taste Test Thread #1 Blind Taste Test Thread #2 |

Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
Dude - I'm all over this!
I have historically broke my reviews down into four parts: Construction Initial Flavors Continuing Flavors With Whisky Here are some of my past reviews: H Upmann Mag 48 EL 2009 Kensington Chateau maduro Liga Privada T52 601 Red Habano Fuente Magnum R One of the main reasons I smoke cigars is to enjoy the experience of trying new ones. My "inventory" is comprised of a lot of singles and five packs so I can try a whole range of cigars - the variation in flavors is a major benefit! The same goes for single malt scotch, rum, wine, etc. I've enjoyed scotch for a much longer period than I have cigars - but teasing out the flavors in scotch has helped with pulling out notes in cigars. So far, I'd estimate that I've been smoking for about 6 months, so am still relatively new. I've wanted to try one of these blind taste tests, but haven't been able to get into one yet. Would be very happy to try! :tu |
Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
Very good, Matt! The only thing I'd ask it that if you get accepted into this that you post your reviews in the created review thread on this forum instead of on a separate site.
Apart from that, that's a solid entry! |

Really... there's no newbs on here that want to review free cigars? |
Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
Dball.. I didn't get active around here until January....
I think some of the brothers around here will agree that i'm your man if you haven't made your picks already... :tu (i haven't read through the thread to see!) p.s. All of my ratings come from the NST Sampler Trades except for 1 purchase in January! |

Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
I guess I didn't read your initial post very well Dan!
I've been Active on the forums since January. (Although I joined last november!) In less than a year, i've grown from a Cigar Dummy, to a true Aficionado. I remember the days when I used to buy all the cheap *ish* from CI just because i thought i was getting a good bargain off of MSRP! Only to learn later that "Hey these things actually "Taste" like something, have very unique flavors and I wasn't just smoking to get a buzz anymore... I don't know when I started writing reviews last year, but I've gotten hooked to sharing my experiences with my brother's and sister's and I'm looking to further hone my skills. Thus my reason for applying for a spot in your review thread. As far as trader ratings go: I have have 1 from a purchase, 2 from the NST, and 1 from the Pipe NST! So I feel as though i'm still pure in terms of what you seek! Here are some of my reviews I hope that you enjoy perusing them and that I make the final cut! Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
Newbs... don't be afraid to step up for this. Even if you've only been here a month. If you have less than 100 posts, that may not instantly disqualify you. I really would like to find people fairly new to cigars in general for this (never seen or smoked a cuban cigar? even better...), as that is the primary purpose of the thread.
It's an easy thing... all you've gotta do is smoke 1 cigar a week and take 5 pics of each one. Simple as pie. Plus, you never know, some of the cigars may be decent... :tu |
Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
Just saw this thread...I don't know if I qualify or not. I'm definitely a newb on the forums and have around the right number of posts, but I've been smoking cigars for about 5 years, only recently have I started getting more serious about it. Here is my first review I posted recently. If I qualify I'd love to do this! :)
Reasons why I think I would be good to review these is my palate for cigars is really just opening up. Up until the last couple months I've smoked a very small group of cigars and didn't ever really sit down and taste them. Only recently have I branched out in my cigars that I smoke and have tried to start detecting the subtle nuances of a cigar that really open it up into an enjoyable experience. The reason I would love to do blind taste tests is because even though I sat down and reviewed this cigar (below), I still knew the description of it as others have tasted it. Going into something blind would not only a) challenge me, but b) be interesting to see what I taste without "knowing" what to taste for. San Cristobal Clasico 5"x50 |

Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
I'm really surprised this thread ain't getting more love... Id create a new handle and pose as a newb just to get my hands on some of Dans smokes. :D
All kidding aside....looking forward to yet another round of Dan's blind reviews. Great gesture Bro! Dan's like Vader...he'll show you the dark side and you'll never go back...NEWBS sign up for this you wont be sorry! http://www.democracyforamerica.com/u...__470x3650.jpg |
Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
I would be interested in this for sure. I haven't written a review which could knock me out, but have done a lot with the CAO review thread. Been here since Feb, on round 2 of the NST. I'll try to throw down a review sometime soon and edit this post or post again. peace!

Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
Get in on this guys!! Have you seen he caliber of sticks that dball sends? Talk about generous!
Plus I need something to read soon! |
Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
I'd love to write a review for you. My date starting here is about the same time I started smoking cigars. APR noob enough? Haha. I haven't written many reviews and the only one I did was very short and was more of a "who else enjoys these?" post. I'll provide a link if needed. I'd love to be a part of your blind test.
The cigars I have enjoyed are Ashton VSGs, Liga Privada #9, Cohiba Esplendidos, and AF Short Stories. Those are the cigars that are on my Consistent Rotation list ATM. I'm VERY interested in writing a review for you. I'm willing to use any format for the review if you have a preference. The reason that I think I'd be a good candidate for this is because of how fresh I am to cigars. If you're looking for a completely noob outlook on cigars, I'd be the best choice for you. I don't have a preferred flavor profile and I'm still exploring my own palette. |

Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
Here's my application.
I am not that new to cigars, I have enjoyed smoking cigars every once in a while but never with much attention to what I was smoking or to tasting and reviewing. Only recently have I gotten more serious about my cigars and started to take tasting and reviewing much more seriously, which is why I was driven to this forum in the first place. I have been trying everything I can get my hands on and am noticing that my preferences and interests have been shaped by my greater attention to this hobby...which just means that I am buying and smoking more cigars! With respects to CC, I have very limited experience. Actually I have probably just smoked some Other Origin knock offs that left wondering what the big deal is really all about. As for my reviews, here are two examples of the types of reviews I have been doing. The first was a blind tasting review that will give you some sense of how I do blind reviews. The second is a review of a cigar that I have smoked multiple times and been able to form an opinion over a series of the same cigars. Blind Review: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32363 Standard Review: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32398 I am excited by the opportunity to learn more about cigars and their flavors and would be honored to be part of one of these famous blind tasting flights. |

Re: Need a newb that writes reviews... (Part 3)
I would like to throw my hat in the ring!
Reading the first two blind tests was very enjoyable and I would love to be one of the testers for the next installment. I really didn't get into cigar smoking until late last summer. You see I have been a cigarette smoker off and on since my teens. In the past I tried smoking cigars (the cheap ones), as a substitute, but I ended up inhaling and that led me right back to cigarettes. However, after cautiously sampling a couple of good, hand made cigars last summer, I found the flavor and aroma very satisfying and I was not tempted to inhale. So I jumped in with both feet and down the slippery slope I have come! I have to admit that a large part of the appeal is the tradition, history and great folks that are involved. I have one review posted here, and one completed trade. I have been keeping a log of my smoke so far. While this was meant as my personal note book, I share it here so that you can see what I have smoked so far. http://www.evernote.com/pub/mzozakiewicz/cigars Here is the link to the review I have done: http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...049#post809049 Whether or not I get to perform the reviews, I can't wait for this to get started!
