Dippers Unite!!
Well, I searched and searched for dip, dippers, snuffers, and didn't find a smokeless tobacco thread. I am just starting up because its a bit easier to use then having a 6" stick of tobaccy sticking out of my face when playing basketball, or mowing the grass.
Go ahead and discuss your favorite tobaccos and what not.. What do you think is a good tobacco flavor to start with? I am thinking about wintergreen.. Any tips before I start? What are you suckin on? |
Re: Dippers Unite!!
There are a few guys on here I know dip regularly... I enjoy it occationally. When I want fruity flavored, it's Skoal Apple or Vanilla, rarely Peach. For non-fruity it's Kodiak, Cope, or sometimes Grizz. Redseal makes a nice cheaper dip if you are a tin-a-dayer.
On a funny note, my buddy and I got his 16 yr old sister to dip with us one time (Skoal Vanilla)- she insisted on long cut!:banger The look on here spaced out face after a minute or so was PRICELESS :r aj |
Re: Dippers Unite!!
I chewed Copenhagen for the better part of twelve years mixed in with a bit of Skoal Straight. Started on Redman then went to Kodiak before I found Copenhagen. For me it was the most addictive tobacco substance out there. I quit (after many many failed attempts) when my gums had receded so much I could almost see the root and the sores were more frequent. Not pleasant to hear about but that's my story about dip. I'd stick to cigars if I were you:2

Re: Dippers Unite!!
I keep one tin of Skoal that is probably a year old. I use it on long airplane flights. It usually disgusts my fellow passangers and pisses off the stewardess. But I don't care. I need my nicotene on long flights.

Re: Dippers Unite!!
Doc- I wont be doing it alot, just when a cigar isnt a good idea..
|
Re: Dippers Unite!!
Been dipping primarily wintergreen for 30 years or so. Right now it's Stokers wintergreen longcut.
|
Re: Dippers Unite!!
I usually dip longcut as I have found the fine cut too sand-like... I've heard there is a midcut out there, but who makes it? Any difference? JW

Re: Dippers Unite!!
I chew Redman, gold blend. I have tried several others, but this is my favorite. :tu

Re: Dippers Unite!!
I dip my cookies.
In milk. :) |
Re: Dippers Unite!!
Only place I used to chew was when playing hockey, and then it was RedMan. After USA Hockey banned smokeless tobacco on the behch for adult players, there was no need anymore...I just fire up a cigar after the game.

Been dipping Copenhagen for almost 35 years. :tu
|
Re: Dippers Unite!!
Copenhagen for 25 years or so but it started ripping up my gums and lips so now it's Skoal Classic Long Cut. I prefer unflavored but if I have a can that's a little dry I have been known to re-moisten with a little Jack Daniels.

Re: Dippers Unite!!
My farsightedness kicked in and I read this thread as Diapers Unite.

Sometimes I chew two cans a day. For instance, those two cans of Alaska Copey you gave me, gone in 24 hours. It was awesome. :D I generally chew Longhorn Fine Cut because with as much as I chew I can afford it. Lately I've been chewing Red Seal Long Cut cause it's almost free with coupons, and it sucks so I don't chew as much. But when I don't chew as much, I smoke three or four cigars a day. If Tom can turn me on to a way I can freebase my nicotine, I'll be smoking it from a meth pipe in no time. I don't even think my body can operate without nicotine. I'd hate to try it. :) |
Re: Dippers Unite!!
That would be pretty cool- freebase nicotine. I just packed in a Camel Snus packet.. Pretty cool invention.

Tomorrow is supposed to be cold and rainy and winddy, so I wont get any cigars in. I'll probably chew at least a couple cans of snuff. :) |
Re: Dippers Unite!!
Tonight I am going to give dipping a chance....
Dipping these mini cookies Danielle made in some ice cold milk. :dr |
Re: Dippers Unite!!
Wow Scott- you sound like a veteran.. What are some good dips for a starter? I am totally at a loss for this!

I'll warn you, once you're hooked, it's way harder to quit dipping than to quit smoking. I can sit down cigarettes easy. I'm stuck with snuff for life, I'm afraid. It's nasty. :) |
Re: Dippers Unite!!
Sounds good, I just don't want to get the collection of brown water bottles strewn about the house like some of my uncles have.. I will never ever touch a cigarette. That's the one tobacco product I wont touch.
|
Re: Dippers Unite!!
Go ahead....touch it. You know you want to.

I tried redman at 7 yrs old and about lost my lunch. Didn't try anything again till I was 15, and again about lost my lunch (Kentucky Farm twists are wicked). At 18 I did Copenhagen for a good while. It always passed the time on the away sports trips. I loved it when they came out with Copenhagen long cut and I dipped that for a while. But lately I have been doing the occasional Swedish Snus. No need for a spit cup, and it just feels cleaner. |

I used to hide my Union Workmen scrap under the bus stop. I just started cause all the older guys and ballplayers did it. I thought it was badass and when I tried scrap, I loved the honey molasses sweetness. Didn't start chewing snuff till I was in 6th or 7th grade, I suppose. I wanted to chew Copey and couldn't handle it, so I tried Gold River, got stuck, and switched to Copey a short while later. The old man chewed Skoal, so I switched to that one summer. It really screwed up my face and I couldn't chew for a few days, so I laid off it till I could go slow and get used to it. Couldn't stand to get beat, ya know? :D I'm still amazed at how incredibbly addictive it is. My grandpa chewed till he dies, probably put in a good 80 years. My old man still dips, and I imagine he has a good 60 years in. With 35 years, I'm still the baby. :) It's a totally gross habit. I love it. :tu |

Then we'd go across the way to the driving range, fill grocery sacks with golf balls we'd gather, and take them to Sky Lodge hill and roll them all down the hill at once. Didn't get to go to reform school for that stunt, either. |

Danged kids!
Here's a couple of threads that might be of interest. http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...ighlight=skoal http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showth...ighlight=skoal To give you the Cliff Notes version: if you haven't started, don't. If you have, quit while you can. The main reason I quit was because it started to really bother me that chew/dip had such a strong hold on me. The other? I'm not paying those blood sucker's $5.00/can. If they would have kept their prices at a more reasonable level, I would have had a harder time quitting. (Skoal was $.25/can when I started.) BTW, I did instruct my daughter's that, if they ever wheeled me into a care home, I wanted a roll of Skoal under my blankey! WyoBob |

I don't forget hauling a milk carton around for a spitter. Most of the teachers were cool with snuff and let us chew in class so we wouldn't spit on the carpet and rub it in. Some would make us swallow it when they caught us, and a few would send us on a three day vacation. I always hated suspension cause the old man would say "if you can't stand to get smart, you better get used to work" and would make me dig a stump out of the yard, or some other such sh!t. If I got done early, I'd have to dig my freshly backfilled and graded hole out and fill it back in. I learned how to pace myself at a real early age, at least where the old man was concerned. I'm still not very good at it otherwise. :D |
