Re: Cello on or off?
A simple search for cello in thread titles will yield multiple results. All of those threads will tell you it's a personal preference. Most will leave it on if it came that way.

Re: Cello on or off?
They didn't spend the time and money to package it with celo for no reason... Might as well leave it on:2

Re: Cello on or off?
I leave it on if it came that way... simply because I tend to play cigar tetras so often I figure it helps safe guard the wrappers.

If it came with cello, it stays in cello....

Re: Cello on or off?
I take all the cello off, cut it in half, then put it back on the cigars. I use the cut pieces to cover the cigars that didn't come with cello. Once a month, I swap the cello from head to foot on the cigar that way they stay even.
I know, it's a lot of work, but dammit, my cigars are worth it. |

This may be TMI...but I remove the cello from my Opus #5's to keep on hand in case I run out of condoms. :sad

Yep that was TMI.

Re: Cello on or off?
Cello off. I use the cello for my balloon animals as I find it's cheaper then buying balloons. I also remove the cigar wrappers, toss em in old cognac barrels and reapply em when I want a smoke. Makes em taste just like an Opus, or Anejo or whatever!:ss :tf

Excellent review.

Re: Cello on or off?
Every couple of months I remove all my cigars from the cello. Then I carefully turn the cello inside out, and replace the cigars into the now reversed cello. If you don't do this, the oils imparted from the cigar will eventually clog the cello and negatively impact the aging of said cigar. This is very important. Additionally, it's helpful to remove and reverse the positions of the bands, should the cigar in question have more than one band on it. My cigars are always thanking me for doing them these small favors.
Also, there's a rumor in the asylum that Peter can predict the future. Anyone else hear this? ;) |
Re: Cello on or off?
Buy handmade CCs. No cello. No worries.

I take the cello off, and use it to scratch my butt.
Because my butt itches. |

Re: Cello on or off?
I think it's way better to leave the celo on as it
_protects the cigars from handling and any RH fluctuations and gives gifting/trading better presentation. ... but like others say it doesn't matter that much really. |
Re: Cello on or off?
The cello imparts an interesting flavor while you smoke a cigar. It's rather chemical tasting, and can actually flame up on occasion. While I've smoked a Gorilla Finger, and the cello tastes better than that did, no doubt, I take it off before I smoke a stick.

Not that I think for a minute you ever did any of this kind of stuff, but I do believe you can make me believe it, given the proper opportunity. And yeah, Peter knows stuff. :tu |
Re: Cello on or off?
Every time get 20-30 Opus and Anejos ahead I take them out of the humidor and rip of the cello, ribbon and cedar and dump all that irritating gold-embossed crap in the trash. In fact, I am recently finding myself offended by cigar rings too and believe I will start taking those off soon.

peeling the wrapper off and smoking the binder and filler. This eliminates concerns about the wrapper splitting and cracking, along with uneven burns. YMMV |

Re: Cello on or off?
some of these made me chuckle! :) I like funny!
Serious Comment: Cellophane is porous. It will emit and/or retain moisture. Experiment: Take the cellophane sleeve off of a cigar that is very moist. . . especially a cigar that is a little over-humidified. Or, take a cellophane sleeve and put it in a baggie with a water soaked wet sponge. Let it set in the extremely high humidity for about 5 hours. Now, take it out and crumple it up with your hand. Note that it is pliable and somewhat soft. Write your findings in your lab note book. Next, take another cellophane sleeve that has been setting out (after you enjoyed your fine cigar) and leave it in the driest environment you can find. . . we live in the desert (Las Vegas) and that would be outside just about anytime. You can use the refrigerator over night for a dry place too. Or, stick it in the warm (not hot) oven after you baked your cookies or something. Then, crumple up that dried cellophane! You'll see the difference! It's crisp and crackly! The difference in this cellophane experiment is the moisture! This also proves that cellophane absorbs moisture. Therefore, moisture can be emitted from cellophane! Write your findings in your lab note book. Conclusion: Cellophane will retard the release and/or absorption of moisture but, it will not prohibit moisture loss nor will it prohibit the slow absorption of moisture. It plays a role in controlling the loss and/or gain of moisture. My Opinion: I respect my cellophane sleeves. However, I do not adore my cellophane sleeves as the lovely cigars they are designed to protect. Bands & Labels: I like my cigars with their fancy 'factory' bands on. It's just my opinion. We all become attached to "brands" because the colorful bands (& brands they represent) indicate what tobacco (blends) are in that particular cigar. THAT is why bands (& ribbons) are important to me! :ss You can thank me later. Or, if you agree with my findings, you may send me fine cigars (with the bands and cellophane still in place). Thank you and good night. |
Re: Cello on or off?
I like to keep the cellophane on because if they came in there might as well keep them in there. It offers so extra protection from what I see, and it still keeps the cigars well humidified regardless of their covering.
|
Re: Cello on or off?
I keep it on.
Furthermore, I prefer to single-sack the nakeds, to keep them protected. |
Re: Cello on or off?
I leave the cello on if they came packaged that way. Don't even care about the pros or cons. This hobby is no fun when I over analyze it.
|
Re: Cello on or off?
I do primarily because I don't smoke anywhere near my humi (in my apt.) So, to minimize risk of damage in transport (nontrivial, I'm pretty ham fisted) I keep 'em in cello.
I'd RATHER not. But it's not worth ruining the sticks over. |
Re: Cello on or off?
I don't buy cigars with cello so I'll have to go with off. :tu

Re: Cello on or off?
I hand knit small cigar cozies for all my sticks because I heard that cello doesn't breathe well. I only use virgin yak wool because it is the only kind of virgin I can find around here.

Re: Cello on or off?
lol. too funny.
I take it out of the cello because i cna't help but to take a peek when i'm close to the humidor and smell the cigars. I swear i can smell raisins now just by smelling the wrapper. |
Re: Cello on or off?
I had mine on for a while, but I like the way the sticks look naked in the humidor.
I do keep it on cigars that I'm aging so I can see how long it takes to yellow the cellophane. So once I find that out, I may take it off for everything. |
