Re: Shutter Island (2010)
It looks like it would be a good movie.

Re: Shutter Island (2010)
Caught a screener of this back in December. I have to say that I'm usually not a fan of DiCaprio but his last few have impressed me.
Having said that, probably one of his better performances and the movie as a whole is great. Scorcese departs from his usual style and actually does a pretty decent job. This is one I recommend to see at the theatre. 3.5 stars from me. |

Any reason for the 3.5? Having said that, I've been looking foreword to this film for a while now. |

Debating btwn this and Wolfman for Sat. I'm leaning towards this as I imagine Wolfman will be a gore fest- something mama does NOT like.

Re: Shutter Island (2010)
I am not a Leo fan at all. I find him to be the weak link in 99% of the movies he does. I will probably watch this when it comes on dvd.

And THIS movie, I am looking forward to it! I might try to get a midnight showing. This looks very good. |
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
I am looking forward to seeing this. Not a fan of DiCrapio at all but he has made a few good movies. As for ratings? Seems like when a critic slams a movie I love it. The movies they love I think are garbage. Just like cigars, we all have different tastes.

Most movie offerings fall in the 2-2.5 stars rating for me. Throw away movies like Legion and the upcoming Cop Out (originally titled "A Couple of Dicks") are average forgettable movies and usually get a 2 or a 2.5 from me. Above average movies are a 3 and above average that I think deserve a theatre visit get a 3.5 A 4 means I'll prob see it 2-3 times in the theatre and a 5 means by the time I review it I've seen it half a dozen times in the theatres, have downloaded a cam-rip that I burned to DVD and will purchase the movie on Blu Ray when it comes out and am planning where on my body to put a movie tattoo :D |

Re: Shutter Island (2010)
As usual, no spoilers.
Leonardo DiCaprio is Deputy U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, he and his partner Chuck are dispatched to Shutter Island, a maximum security mental institution on an island off the coast of Boston to investigate the disappearance of a dangerous mental patient. What comes next is a mind **** of twists and turns, some, which were a little obvious, and others that were totally unexpected. Leo was on top of his game in this and played a completely believable character (you will see why I say believable when you watch the movie). Mark Ruffalo played Deputy U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule and paired with DiCaprio they made a perfect team. There was a ton a charisma between the two of them. The plot is rock solid and Martin Scorsese I believe really came out of his comfort zone with this film, it says Scorsese, but not in the sense the Departed did. It’s very different and it would be great to see him further branch out like he did with Shutter Island. The score for this movie was perfect. Their were some pretty dramatic scenes and a few that were spooky as well, the music at times made me think the hair on my neck was going to stand up at any minute. I heard a few people say they fell asleep during this movie, that it was Leonardo DiCaprio’s worst film, etc. I don’t think that could be further from the truth, in fact I would venture to say that was one of his BEST performances to date. I would love to see Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Ruffalo back on the screen together for another film. I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars. |
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
Just saw this and would agree that it was very good altho- and I won't continue for those who have not seen it.

|
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
Im going to see it this week..
I find it interesting how so many people dislike DiCaprio.. sure he looks like some little panzie that used to get beat up in high school. But all BS aside, he is a VERY talented actor.. |
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
I saw it last night and thought it was awesome. I would agree with the mind **** element of it. After it ended it was just like what the hell did I just see, but in the very best way possible.

I just saw it tonight and I thought it was incredible, stellar performances from all cast members IMO it is awesome when you leave a movie and look at your watch and go "wow I didn't know this was that long!!!" never once did I get bored. I highly recommend it!!! |
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
I was not super crazy about this movie. I guess I had too high of an expectation for it.
|
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
I like Leonardo, haven't seen many of his films, trailer depicts impressive sequence. I will think about it.

Re: Shutter Island (2010)
Read on Wikipedia that Dicraprio is interested in playing Roland in a Dark Tower project. Christian Bale is also interested, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I thought it was mediocre and predictable. I wouldn't watch it more than once.
|
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
Katie and I saw it last week and I figured it out within the first 30 minutes. Kind of made the rest very predictable.
|
Re: Shutter Island (2010)
BTW, don't read the Wikipedia article on this movie if you plan to go see it. They give away the ending in the plot summary. :td
