What sampler to buy?
I spent a good part of yesterday looking at samplers. I need some advice on what to buy. I am looking for good variety and quantity for around 100.00. Keep in mind I am new to this. BTW I was shopping CI and fameous.

Re: What sampler to buy?
I would vote CI's "Motherlode" sampler. 30 sticks for $100. It'll give you a lot of stuff to taste while beginning your journey. Also, be sure to look for their free shipping code usually posted in one of the bottom fora here. :tu

Re: What sampler to buy?
Famous has great search options to narrow down your search by strength, shape, wrapper color, etc. so if you're looking to pick up specific strengths or shapes they are a good way to go.
I would also agree with Tony that the CI Motherload samplers (#3-30 sticks and #6-36 sticks) are nice pickups when you just want to try several different strengths and sizes. :tu |
Re: What sampler to buy?
If you go with the Motherlode sampler, I'd probably choose #3. However, it has a lot of Ghurkha and Cammacho, which are pricy sticks.

Re: What sampler to buy?
Oh and I also should mention that you can get some great deals on 5 packs and samplers on www.cigarbid.com :ss

Re: What sampler to buy?
I would shop 5-paks on JoeCigar (CI) and Cigar.com and put together my own sampler of things that match my tastes. At least 95% of the time all of them throw in some dogs with a large sampler pack that hurts your real value but raises the MSRP. On most Joecigar Jam days you could put together a very nice package of samplers with 2 or 3 orders of 5 paks or 10 paks and know exactly what you are getting. I have picked up a few very nice samplers from Coronacigar.com, they are first class.:tu

Re: What sampler to buy?
Don Pepin sampler form CI or cbid is very good as well.
Also, you can buy multiple brand sampler for CI. |
Re: What sampler to buy?
Another option would be to go into the WTB section of this site and do a "WTB $50 Sampler" and see if you get some offers that suit your needs.
You could go less....($25-$30).....or more($75-$100) in your post, just seeing what offers you get. Try to be fairly specific in what you are looking at..... In the end, you may end up getting a far better quality/quantity ratio than a purchase from a retail shop.... |

Re: What sampler to buy?
What have you tried so far? None of what you've tried so far stick out? Any cigars that you didn't like?
I'm new at this also, and find that I really like Maduros, so I'm in the process of finding the best Maduros. Quote:

Re: What sampler to buy?
Just ask for an assorted sampler in the wtb section. Mention your new to cigars and if there are some that you think you may like to try. I'm pretty sure you would get a better selection that way.

Re: What sampler to buy?
I haven't found anything I don't like yet but have always relied on someone at the b&m to pick something good. I never really paid much attention to what I smoked. My wife got me a humi for Christmas and I am now attempting to fill it. I have no local b&m or friends to herf with. I am looking at the CI motherlodes now. Might try the b/s/t tonight when I am not on the iPhone.

Re: What sampler to buy?
Check out CI and look for the Gran Habano 20 stick sampler, it's 39.99 and they're amazing.

If you haven't already, check out the Newbie Sampler Trade
I am not sure if you have access to the WTB section yet, but as other mentioned, that may not be a bad idea. |

Re: What sampler to buy?
If you're still 'new to this' you're eligible for
the Newbie Sampler Trades on many cigar message boards. XLNT deals to be had!!!! There are some online retailers here who would probably hook you up very well, just to establish a relationship with a new customer, too. Chemyst :cool2: |
Re: What sampler to buy?
Padilla has a sampler on CI which has ten sticks, all of them a different one for around $30.

Re: What sampler to buy?
I would highly recommend bidding on some of the brand name 5ers on the sampler section of cBid. They have some great deals there although i would bid more then 15 for any but Pepin, definitely worth it. I would do that for 5 - 7 different ones and that should net you quite a few sticks to get to know your taste buds. Some brothers here stay clear of gurkhas, but they don't hurt to try.
If you want I can send you a 5'er of some of the sticks I have, if you can't seem to find anything. |

And a big thanks to all who have replied and helped. This is a great group of people. It is a shame we live all over this big ole world and can't sit down and enjoy one anothers company in person. |

new member here
Me and a friend went with the cigar.com scortched earth sampler. It was a heavy AJFZ theme- great sticks though. 30 sticks for 100.00 I've since found several samples under 100.00 with either 20-30 premium smokes. Also- cigar.com has around 50 samplers under 40.00 with 10+ cigars |
