More Misinformation

Sometimes I wonder where this kind of information comes from! From "Cigar Advisor" weekly email:

Smoke This!
(our Cigar Tip of the Week)
Ammonia Odor in Humidor
Ever open up your cigar humidor and get a whiff of what smells like ammonia? According to one of my best sources, this is a result of the tobacco having not been fully-fermented before the cigar was rolled. Unfortunately, home aging will have little to no effect on reducing the odor. Once the tobaccos have been rolled into the cigar they pretty much retain whatever ammonia is left in them. That said, it doesn't necessarily mean the cigar will taste bad, but a cigar made with properly fermented tobaccos should not give off an ammonia-like aroma.

Let the beatings begin.:r

Since odor won't go away, just threw out all my cigars thanks to this thread. Glad the smell will now go away.

I guess once a cigar is capped it is no longer aging or fermenting.

Don't let those sticks go to waste, send them my way so that I can age them in my "special" home-humidor that contains a secret type of wood and special internal conditions that not only ages them, but also removes the ammonia smell!

It as if they are confusing cigar aging for liquor aging.

Speaking of trash cans, garbage men refused to empty mine this morning due to the "ammonia" smell that was coming out of it. They were afraid it was toxic so I had to tip them to take my CC's from away.

Even they knew they were fake, Carlos.

Hey!!!
I got them all from a friend, who knows someone, whose cousin is sleeping with the wife of a roller from the Laguitos factory, who is sleeping with the manager of the factory, along with also sleeping with the head of packaging.
Best of all, I just go to the Hialeah warehouse district to pick them up so I don't even need to fly to Cuba.

Well, I'm glad to see at least someone is reading the newsletter. I got this information from a very highly respected person in the business. Truth be told, I thought it sounded a little "off" at first, myself, but I have a lot of respect for this gentleman. So here's the deal: I'm going to write to him and ask him to clarify these remarks. There is always a chance I may have misinterpreted or misheard something, so let's be fair before beatings begin.
IOW, stay tuned. - G.K.

Thanks for posting, G.K.....don't be offended, we often have a rip on things here, but try to do so in a fun-spirited way and not to put off the original poster. :)

As far as I know, fermenting, and aging are 2 different things in the production process right? Fermentation takes place at much higher temperatures that aging. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Hey, no offense taken. I just heard back from my source at Oliva Cigars, and with nothing more to add, he's sticking to his original statement. At least you're polite enough to say "don't be offended," unlike some of the other forums where it's like pledging a fraternity. :banger
Happy smokes - Gary.

When I read the OP and quote that was exactly what I was thinking. I think you are onto the right idea. Potato/gzorbnit.
