Fuente Opus X Shark

Ok, so I have seen a few of the OPUS X Sharks in the Opus 22 boxes before, sexy looking stick but out of my budget... So I was in a B&M in West Palm Beach today, that HAPPENS to be asylum members, and they recieved an Opus Shipment... and what do you know, the shipment contained several full boxes (regular production boxes, mind you, not LE) of "Opus X Perfection No. 77 Shark"...

I thought to myself... WHAT!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Anyways, I asked if they were selling them as singles and graciously the owner, none other than Mr. Abe "Ming" of Smoke Inn Fame, said he wanted to take a few sticks himself, so sure, open them up...

I grabbed one today, and am going to go back and grab another few tomorrow.

The question begs, has this cigar EVER been released as a production cigar and not as part of the limited humidors or the Opus 22 sets?

This is the same cigar as: http://www.vitolas.net/displayimage.php?pos=-138
http://www.vitolas.net/albums/rare_c...us_x_shark.jpg

But with no red foot band. VERY interesting.

Thoughts?

Wow, only heard of these in boxes one time before. Strange that they're popping up all the sudden. Would be interested to see how many of these boxes are floating around.

I can kinda confirm this as well... one of my favorite vendors is getting a box of Opus Love Affair. I thought it might be the Lost City release or the Love story since they are all close in size... I will report back when they make it in. :tu

I just placed an order for some of the sharks and love affair. I look forward to smoking one of each shortly after their arrival. A WOA Opus should be a nice smoke.:D

they are generally pretty close to MSRP.

They wouldn't by chance be releasing the BBMF this way also would they ?

Re: Fuente Opus X Shark

Just smoked one, very interesting. Tasty and complex, started off harsh, but that faded quickly. The recent batches of Opus X have all been too harsh and spicy for me, so I had let them rest for a year or three before smoking. This one wasn't like those. Picked up 12 more, though.

Thanks.

Looks like their 5-pack prices are about $4 over MSRP per cigar, but it seems consistant across the board, which would make the Opus X 77 about $14/stick MSRP.

Re: Fuente Opus X Shark

i'm getting all kinds of phone calls. another shipment of anejos, shipments of crazy sized opus, a whole new line up of "rosarios" (sp) and some 8-5-8's of the non normal type.

if anyone runs across these and can't afford to pick them up let me know :D

got a call from a vendor and they wanted 11.70ish for the love affairs. i haven't seen any opus sharks yet though.

Re: Fuente Opus X Shark

just back from the Briar Shoppe where they were going for $20. a little high but I was curious, so I picked up one shark along with some of the more reasonably priced sizes. They actually had a ton of Opus boxes this year. just about every size from what I could tell. I picked up one that was a curious size I had never seen before. looks to be about a 40 x 6.5 ? with a pyramid top. very cool looking!

edit: ah ok, petit lancero according to the internet

stearns 12-17-2009 04:43 PM

Re: Fuente Opus X Shark

asked at a shop by me that usually gets a healthy opus shipment in, the owner said they have never made opus sharks... i told him i knew people that had them, he continued insisting that i was thinking of the anejo so i ended the conversation and politely left. apparently if they're not getting them then they have never been made :hn

Re: Fuente Opus X Shark

My local shop got such a large shipment of OpusX, they put them on the floor. This is not the norm at this shop, they usually have OpusX to purchase, but if you don't know to ask....they assume you probably don't want them.

It was such a surprise seeing the boxes of OpusX on the shelves, I mentioned it to the owner. She then informed me of their box of OpusX Sharks and OpusX Love Story, both of which they did not put on the floor.

I grabbed two of each just to have....then decided I just needed one of each and picked up another 4 Anejos to take their place.

Who knows, I may go back and get a few more....but they were cost prohibitive, think $20 for the Shark and $14-15 for the Love Story.

after I finish my Christmas shopping I plan to go back and pick up a few more, as well as a few more of the sharks, depending on how much $$$ I have left.

Just finished one of the Opus Sharks, it was very tasty and smooth. The draw and construction was what you would expect from an Opus. Now time to grab some late night sushi with the wife:D

That looks more like the Beli or Power Ranger. Does not look square enough or large enough to the scale of your hand to be a shark.:2

+1. I also thought the Opus Shark had a 2nd band, but maybe that's just the ones in the set.

The Opus X lineup is pretty :dr but very pricy. I think my tax return = a box of Opus X. These look good, you lucky bastids!

Yep, that's the problem I have with most Fuentes, actually. The Anejo = boring for me until at least a year for the 46, more for the rest. Then they get really good. After about 4 years, they are epic and my favorit maduro aside from the Padron 40th. The Opus are very similar for me in term of age. I was lucky enough to trade for some from '01-'03 and the 3 I've had so far have been amazing!

Although I find the need to age for years annoying, I now buy cigars for that purpose when I know they are going to be really good, like these.

How depressing----I need to let it rest for another 3 plus years to get that famous taste everyone speaks of. Not sure if I'll be able to wait-- :)

Thats funny, most places are the opposite. Will your B&Ms sell them with the dress boxes? Cause I am dying for a box of Opus PL (32ct) in the lacquered dress box.
