Sam Adams Seasonals

I really enjoy the Octoberfest, and it will soon be no longer availible around here. I am interested as to what else Sam Adams has to offer in line with their seasonals, more specifically, Winter Lager, Old Fezziwig, and the Holiday Porter. Those really are the only other beers that interest me as far as Sam Adams goes. Can anyone give a good report on those beers??

Re: Sam Adams Seasonals

I've had all three, though it was last year. I'm more a lager guy, so I enjoyed the Winter Lager most - in fact, I just got a case here into the shop, and if I don't sell it soon I may have to drink it myself, all's the pity. The OF and the HP are very good "stout" beers that don't leave that yucky scum some do, if I recall correctly. Sam does put out - or used to anyway - a holiday pack that has a dozen bottles, 6 each of their winter blends in it. Look for it, or ask you local vendor.

Hey, if you were closer, I'd order it for you myself. :D

I am going to look for it friday after work:tu Is it the Winter Lager and the OF, or the Porter that comes in the pack?

Just picked up a 6pk of the winter lager last night for the weekend.

I've had a 6 pack and a few pints from a keg of winter ale this year. Honestly, I'm going to recommend sticking to bottle version with this. I'm not good a describing beers so, go buy some you wont be upset.
Kegged version had a metallic after taste to it. I don't know if this was manufacture or the place which I received it.

The winter lager is perhaps my favorite American beer of all time. I just found it in stores this past week and I couldn't be more happy. The HP is decent and I don't recall liking the OF all that much. That sampler pack mentioned above is good, except that SA's alway's puts their Boston Lager in every sampler. Drives me crazy.

Hmm, im not crazy about their regular production beer. But I will still get the sampler pack if it has the winter seasonals in it.

Do you mean the Old Fezziewig?

Correction: I wrote "6 each" when I meant "2 each of their 6 blends. Guess I shouldn't start drinking so early.

It would only be two bottles...but it still drives me crazy. Their fall sampler had the BL and their cherry wheat, which I find almost repulsive so it was four "wasted" beers in my opinion. I drank the BLs but I can't stand CW so I tried giving it to JK5's girl. She didn't like it either so down the drain it went.

I just got turned on to the Oktoberfest this fall. For some reason I have never tried it before. I try almost every beer I can get my hands on at least once, and this one always went unnoticed. It is a very tasty beer. Great warmup to the Winter Lager. However, it's not as good as the Winter Lager IMO.

It would be nice to find something other than the Octoberfest from SA that I can enjoy. Winter Lager sounds really good.

I personally enjoy Cream Stout, and Black Lager they make. You can get these year round.

Re: Sam Adams Seasonals

The Old Fezziwig is very popular, as is the Holiday Porter. Unfortunately, they're only available in the winter mix pack. I'm not a fan of spice beers, so the Old Fezziwig and the Winter Lager aren't my favorites, but the Holiday Porter is good. The Winter Mix Pack also includes the Cranberry Lambic (absolutely horrible, IMO), Boston Lager, and Coastal Wheat. Why they would put a light wheat beer in a winter pack, I'll never know, but with only two out of six beers that I'd drink, it's not something I'll be buying.

The Cranberry Lambic is the stuff on nightmares, I have no idea how it makes it back into the mix every year considering I have never heard of anyone that has finished an entire bottle let alone someone who actually liked the stuff.

Well, cannot say I liked it, but I drank both bottles from the pack I had last year. But I'm a country boy at heart, born and raised in moonshine country, so can drink most anything, plus I got it free - the sales rep came into the shop and said the packs were "out of date", that he would credit me, and that I should toss them. So I did - one at a time. :al

It's like the old joke - they wuz jes' right. Any better, an' he wouldn't have give them to me, any worse an' I couldn'a drunk 'em.

Just picked up a 6-pack of winter Lager a few days ago. Drank them with a family member and we both liked them.

I do enjoy the Sam Adams Black when it's out. I just picked up a 6er of the Winter Lager. It's strange because the warm spices give it an after taste that reminds me of the aftertaste of Swedish Snus Tobacco.

Hmmm I went through 6 cases of Octoberfest this year when it was out. Now its gone. Wonder if Costco has Winter Lager by the Case yet... :)

I too just bought a 6 pack of winter lager. It's definitely my fav seasonal beer. I was just introduced to a new brew from Sams....coastal Wheat I believe it is. This is their hefeweizen beer....solid beer.

I really like SA's Octoberfest, and for some reason I can still buy it here. Perhaps it's not a big seller in this market. If I see one I'll buy the SA winter mix, and take the Commander's warning into consideration when I try the lambic. I like their regular lager OK so they won't be a loss to me.

I mostly drink Micro Brews. But I do drink some Sam Adams, Michelob, etc. I like the Boston Lager, Octoberfest, and Winter Lager. Irish Red wasn't too bad either.

I find it shocking to say the least, but I've actually met people that not only like this beer they actually LOVE it. It's probably my least favorite Sam Adams beer along with Cherry Wheat. The rest of the Winter mix pack is GREAT though. I love Old Fezzi, Holiday Porter, and Winter Lager. The cinammon in the Winter Lager and Old Fezzi gives the beer a great flavor.

The Winter Lager is one of my favorite mass produced beers as well. Very tasty. I have a few bottles of Oktoberfest left in the fridge--also good, but I think the Winter Lager wins the contest there.

I usually get a couple cases of whatever they call their Winter Blends sampler. I like all except the Cranberry Lambric, but I have buddy who loves it - and I like to make a pork roast in the crock pot with it, so it doesn't go to waste. The others in their are an enjoyable winter diversion. And usually, I can pick it up for a reasonable price.

The Lambic also makes a great chicken marinade. :tu

I ended up buying a 6er of the Winter Lager to give it a shot. Too bad I left it in the fridge and forgot about it and now I'm gone throughout the week.

So i ended up buying the Winter Classics. The spice in the Winter Lager isn't too bad. But I'm not sure about that Cranberry crap....might just stay in there and visit the mulch outside.

thanks for the heads-up. i was suspiscious of the use of the word "lambic". i'll taste it and most likely that one will go in the crock.

Yes, I will buy 2 cases of the seasonal mixture - only the Cranberry Lambric is something I will gift away or cook with. I have been doing this for the last few years, so, that's how much I enjoy them.

I love the idea of using the cranberry lambic to cook a pork roast. Add some more fresh cranberries to the pot, and serve with potatos and sauerkraut.

Double Bock is actually no longer a seasonal beer. It's made all year now.

I have to say I love the winter mix pack. Every beer in there is at least good if not great (except Cranberry Lambic ;) ). I really love Old Fezziwig.
