 Cigar Punch

Do many of you use a cigar punch? (I know Palio is the right answer here :) ). But I'm thinking of getting a punch to keep on my key ring, and was wondering how many BOTL's use them. Any brand preferences?

		:r thats great
but seriously I use one thats built into a pen that my boss gave me or a $5.00 punch since I rarely use one |

 Re: Cigar Punch

I carry a cheap punch on my key chain.
I prefer to punch short filler cigars. |

 Re: Cigar Punch

I just got a Xikar puncher that I use on my key ring. I believe I got the thing for about $30. I'm sure you can find them cheaper if you look around. Or you can save yourself some money and just bite the thing off.

 Re: Cigar Punch

When I first started seriously smoking cigars, I used a punch almost exclusively. No I only use one on the larger ring gauge sticks that won't fit in the Palio. Some cheap little thing I picked up from CI.

		Hey Warren,
I just got one of these Xikar mutitools from Bao. It fits great on my keychain and it's very durable, handy, and works great. I had a whole pile of punch cutters and I just gave them away. I think I sent them all to Chas. They really incredibly suck. Seriously. They're heavy in the pocket and clunky, too. I think you'd very much enjoy the multitool if you want a keychain cutter. :tu They look incredibly huge, but they fold up smaller than a pack of matches. |

 Re: Cigar Punch

I use a punch probably 10 to 1 and the one is a belicosos. I just prefer the punch as I rarely get bits of tobacco in my mouth and the head stays firm throughout the smoke.
I have an 07 and an 09 Xikar punch and they are nice. However, the punch I use the most is a cheap on from CI (I actually get them on cBid). The are called a rubberized punch or something like that. It is very small, light and cheap. I think they are usually about $4 for a two pack on cBid. It also has a slightly smaller core than most other punches. |

 Re: Cigar Punch

I have a Xikar 008 punch. It's has a larger punch than most of the others I've seen. I really like it. I tend to punch smaller RG sticks rather than the larger ones. With a corona size, and the 008 it's almost like cutting the complete cap.
I would say I used it about 40% of the time. It doesn't take the place of the palio. |

 Re: Cigar Punch

I use a Xikar 008 punch probably 90% of the time. The 008 has a fairly large bore that allows a good draw. I also have a couple of cheap punches I use when I'm traveling.
The only problem I run into is when I occasionally leave the house with a torpedo, and forget to bring a cutter with me. I've done that at least three times in the last year. Those are the times I'm glad I also carry a sharp pocket knife. As far as the Palio, I have one, use it the other 10% of the time, but usually just prefer a punch. Different strokes, ya know. |

 Re: Cigar Punch

I have a Xikar 08 that I enjoy. I started punching with a cheap, platic punch from JR, though. It worked fine, but eventually it will lose the bumps that hold it together, and get lost. Fortunately, they are cheap enough to buy a new one whenever needed.
I will punch just about any larger rg parejo stick. I will even punch the occasional PC. |

I use my xikar 009 Punch all the time and I love it! Lifetime warranty to with no questions asked!

 Re: Cigar Punch

I'm another fan of the Xikar punch. I punch the majority of cigars because I find it helps keep the loose bits of tobacco in the cigar and out of my mouth.

 Re: Cigar Punch

I've had a Xikar 007 punch for a few years now and it is OK. The twisting motion can sort of stick and depending on how you carry it around (on a key chain for example) it can open somewhat on its own and expose the blade. I've also used the 008 and 009 xikar punches and feel they are a better design and would highly recommend both.

 Re: Cigar Punch

I use a cheap punch I picked up for less then $5. Only use a cutter on really small RG (i.e. smaller than the punch) or on a torpedo. So most of the time it's a cheap little punch for me.

 Re: Cigar Punch

My cheep chinese dual torch has two punches built into the bottom, and that's what I mostly use. If I get a poor draw, then I'll re-cut. I like the convenience of it.

 Re: Cigar Punch

I've got one of those swiss army knives with the punch "arm" in it. Although I carry the thing around I still wind up using my palio. About the only time I punch a cigar nowadays is when the head of the cigar is really flat (think - punch petite edmundo).
