That is the kind of stuff I deal with on a regular basis, one cannot describe the smell, but they will never forget it either. Wrong way to treat a cyst, but the reactions do sound about right. After dealing with a few it becomes a little easier to tolerate, but not much.

The whole thing should be cut out, not split open then squeezed, the cyst can refill with that puss. Also it could be rather deep and home treatment gives easy way to an infection. Many times it is not just puss, but there could be cancer involved with a cyst too. At our office we remove and process them to read under microscopes.

That was a huge F'n cyst. I've got one on my tailbone that comes back every 10 years. My wife gags on that smell........... but dang it feels great when it pops.
