Recommended Sumatras?

I just polished offf a Los Blancos Sumatra Robusto and thoroughly enjoyed the flavor.

I did a search on cigarsinternational.com for "sumatra" and wasn't happy with the results, so I am asking those in the know....

What cigars wrapped in a sumatra wrapper do you recommend?

Re: Recommended Sumatras?

I was just in Austin and picked up one of these at their store on 6th Street : http://www.livecigarrollers.com/cigars_texasselect.php

Bobalu Cigar Co.'s Texas Select...it was pretty darn tasty and my first Sumatran. The cigar itself had this intoxicatingly sweet smell to it. Not taste, but smell. I'm thinking I might have to order a few more now that I'm home.

Edge sumatra was so good. And yes the rare corojo is actually a sumatra and quite tasty.

I got some Sol Cubano Sumatras a long time ago and they are pretty good for the price.

Re: Recommended Sumatras?

The only Sumatra I have smoked and enjoyed would be the Los Blancos. The Taboo one was okay but got a funky taste in the middle of it so I pitched it. but up there it was a decent smoke.

I'll second the Taboo Sumatra.

BlackIrish 02-12-2009 06:28 PM

Re: Recommended Sumatras?

Got some good advice here, Scott. I'll endorse

RP Edge Sumatra
Hoyo Dark Sumatra
Taboo Sumatra (good, but not as good as RP and HdM)

Didn't realize the Rare Corojo was Sumatra. Need to revisit.

awsmith4 02-12-2009 06:54 PM

Re: Recommended Sumatras?

Cubao is a Sumatra wrapper and is a darn fine cigar line

:ss

I also (as many have said) love the Edge Sumatra

Re: Recommended Sumatras?

My favorites are:

RP Edge Sumatra (best of this group by far)
Punch Rare Corojo (second best by far)
Hoyo Dark Sumatra (nice smoke but too mild for me)
Taboo Sumatra (interesting average smoke)

Have not tried any of the others.

I have smoked several of the Taboo Sumatra. Most of them were quite good. I did have some minor burn issues with a couple though.

Cigars International usually has them as well as most online vendors that carry the EO Brands like 601.
