Name me a bourbon or two
Heading south of the border soon and want to try something we can't get here in Ontario.
Prefer Four Roses and Woodford Reserve to some of the more in-your-face spirits. Our selection here of American whiskeys is pretty limited. Don't want to break the bank, but would like to sample a smooth, affordable whiskey or two. What's readily available (heading to PA). |
Re: Name me a bourbon or two
I have found that Buffalo Trace is very good :tu

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
personally like Makers Mark and Four Roses

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
What's Old Forester like?

Lots of good recommendations here:

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
Definitely grab a bottle of Angel's Envy if you can find it. The son of the guy who did Woodford is behind it, and the guy who did Woodford followed him there to help out. Its finished in port barrels for 6-8 months that gives it a great cherry-ish sweetness. Jefferson's and Bulleit are another two solid options. Bulleit makes a great rye too. Four Roses Single Barrel is another good one, especially for the ~$38 price tag

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
Eagle Rare and Corner Creek get my vote for decent bourbons that won't break the bank.

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace. They come from the same distillery so you might want to try another distiller. But these two are my regulars.

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
A few of my favorites under $50
Four Roses small batch and single barrel Woodford Reserve Elijah Craig 18 Eagle Rare Makers Mark 46 Colorado Breckenridge Bourbon These are all really nice bourbons and at a price point that won't kill your wallet. |
Re: Name me a bourbon or two
If you can find it Michter's US #1 Small Batch Bourbon. Make sure it's the small batch but its on the lower end for $, not too strong and very well drinking.

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
I second Peter's recommendation of Eagle Rare, and would also suggest Evan Williams Single Barrel as a good bourbon that is affordable.

I'll second the above mentioned thread Jeff. Can't go wrong there:tu |
Re: Name me a bourbon or two
I'd add Elijah Craig 12 year to the mix as well. At around $20 per fifth, it is great bang for the buck.

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
What part of PA Jeff?
I have been enjoying Elijah Craig 12 Year lately, it's my second favorite behind Woodford so far. Alot of people enjoy the 12 more than the 18. |
Re: Name me a bourbon or two
Thanks guys.
Will check out the thread Peter suggested (should have searched that out.) Heading to Erie with a side trip to Grove City. |
Re: Name me a bourbon or two
Jefferson's very small batch is approx. 82 proof, very smooth and warm- not a big burn at all. Under $30.00. My favorite for most cigar pairings.
Blantons is one of the best for the price, around $52.00. Best bourbon I've had. At this cost, for special occasions, but well worth the cost!!! If you like wheatears, try Evan Williams single barrel - very high ratings and also under $30.00. Smooth and sweeter than most rye bourbons. Much better than Makers Mark. If you like your bourbon stout, try Knob Creek at 100 proof. Good sipping bourbon under $30.00. Strong, loads of flavor...not for the faint of heart. This is one people either love or hate. Real Bourbon enthusiasts usually like it! These are what I stock for my personal enjoyment. My 2c... RR |
Re: Name me a bourbon or two
Maker's Mark
Blanton's Bookers (a little pricey) Knob Creek Buffalo Trace I don't think you can go wrong with any of these. :ss |

Re: Name me a bourbon or two
You can pick up the following top tier bourbons for $20ish:
George Dickel #12 Buffalo Trace Eagle Rare If you like rye whiskey, give Bulleit a try as well. It's closer to $30. |
