Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
I can't for the life of me get this thing to maintain 65-70%. It likes to shoot up to 80% and beyond. I'm about to rip the puck out and throw a boveda pack in there. Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
I keep cigars in my traveldors for weeks without any humidification.:sh

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
Put the pack in there, the pucks are terrible. Bovedas tend to have slightly higher rh than they state, I keep a 65 in mine.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
Hmm, see this is going to be my long term storage for my deployment so I need it to semi regulated. I'll see what the humidity levels reach without the puck and post back.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
I think ripping the puck out is a splendid idea.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
I just ripped the puck out...I'm over it. I cut some foam and put it where the puck was to cover the hole I'll post back in a bit.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
Sitting pretty at 68%. Moral of the story, ditch the puck boveda is the way to go.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
Boveda packs are perfect for that size!
If you had a 50 count, I would recommend getting a 2oz stick of HCM beads. My 50 ct is constant at 65% with them. And it only take the space of 1 cigar!!! :tu |
Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
I use the beads in my wineador but figured a puck would do its job in the caddy...guess not.

Either way, Boveda packs are good for traveldors if you insist on having it humidified although it usually isn't needed. I personally am the anal type that thinks it needs RH so I use a medium RH stick from heartfelt in my 40 count traveldor, its about the same size as a corona sized cigar so it fits perfectly. In my 5ct I slip in a water pillow if I have room. |

I use my 10ct here in and there.. Never use anything.. It holds fine for week long trips I take. Now, when I travel on my cruise and take the 40ct, I will use something and see how it goes.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
Still holding at 67%. Good stuff and to restate the reason I needed the pack was because without it I was getting insane swings anywhere from 60% - 80%. Also like I said this is my long term storage for the next year.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
With such a small box you will get wide swings in Rh. Every time you open it the Rh will drop or rise to the ambient Rh. High and low Rh are irrelevant as long it is consistent over the long run. :2

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
I dont use anything in my 40ct caddy. The longest I have stored cigars is one 1 week and not a burn issue with any.

Re: Cigar Caddy Humidity Issue
I put HCM beads in my puck and they work great. (Tore the floral foam out, left the wire screen in.) I threw a 65% Boveda pack in there with all the cigars and everything when it was new (just a couple months ago) and now everything stays nice and stable and cozy since all the foam and everything is up to speed.
The reason I did it that way was because my RH was too low for quite awhile and was robbing the water from my beads. I didn't want to mess with it so I used the Boveda pack to calibrate/replenish the beads. I think I'll just keep both in there from here on out. The Boveda pack doesn't take up any room at all, ya know? |
