Creating ringtones for iPhone
So, I'm a doofus about stuff like this. I figured out how you can create a ringtone from an mp3 file on iTunes, but it's only available for music downloaded from iTunes, plus it's an additional $0.99 for each stinking ringtone I want to create. The process of it is really simple. Does anyone know if there's a way to create ringtones with another program to be able to put on my iPhone?
Thanks for any suggestions. |
Re: Creating ringtones for iPhone
If you have a jailbroken iPhone, there's an independent app that allows you to create 30-second ringtones from any song on your computer. If you have not done a jailbreak on your iPhone, you're SOL (I think).

I use it on mine. Give it a shot. Less hassle than jail breaking. Only downside it that you might want to edit your source file to get a good snippet for the RT.

You can try iToner from Moki's company (ambrosia software). You have to cut the mp3 yourself using another program, but it puts the ringtones on a non-jailbroken phone.

If anything else goes wrong with it and you need to bring it in for service, I'm sure they'll disclaim warranty coverage as well as they'll blame it on your jailbreaking it |

Try the doing the stuff on the link I provided. It's REALLY easy. Even if you want to convert a song to a RT via Itunes, you still have to edit it to get the snippet you want and I think that you only get one shot at it (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Iphones will only allow RTs of 30 seconds or less, so some editing is going to happen. MP3 editors are all over the place.

Here's a way to do this in itunes, just as long as you have the song you want the ringtone from:

Re: Creating ringtones for iPhone
The best free audio editing tool is Audacity, and it works wonders for ringtones. All you do is highlight a section of the mp3, copy it out, make a new file and paste it in. Then delete small portions from either end of your selection until you have the exact clip you want. Then, export it as an mp3 using any of a ton of free mp3 codecs (Audacity will suggest one which you probably already have on your computer, just do a file search for it on your hard drive).
That's the easy part of making the mp3 file. I don't know much about how you use an mp3 as a ringtone on iPhones though (I'm very happy with Verizon, and they make it easy). If you know how to do that, I can help you with the first part I described. |
Re: Creating ringtones for iPhone
regardless of what you do in any other program, you still have to go through the same procedure as in any of those tutorials using itunes posted above.

Re: Creating ringtones for iPhone
Do you have Garage Band on a Mac?
Or know anyone that does? You can turn any song quickly and easily into a ringtone via that program and best of all, free. |
