Amen to that. There are tons of deep lakes in and around Michigan.

I just put half down on a 5.7 upper for my AR-15. I was set on a .223 upper, but the wait was to long, plus this thing looks cool. Once I get it assembled I'll show you. Its freakin' awesome.

They are kind of front heavy but are a blast to shoot, buy lots of ammo.

Go to http://www.model1sales.com and buy a 6.8mm upper kit. Can't beat their prices, and I've heard nothing but good things about quality.

Mine too lol

Bought the 23 boxes of 30-30 just bought another 15 today. Its kinda concerning when you hear from several state troopers to stock up on ammo...

Re: First Firearm Thread.

And with hearing the feds wanna tax ammo by 500% and serial number each casing I feel its better to buy now instead of paying say 100 bucks for 20 rounds of .223 at around 20 bucks a box now.

at least you can find ammo, we've been totally wiped out here for months... as soon as a shipment comes in, its gone. Literally, the workers have been saying in less than an hour they go from being overstock (compared to "normal) to sold out.

Its crazy.

Hell Biden wants to ban handgun ammo and any long gun with a pistol grip, which they define as any grip that isn't parallel to the barrel. Evidently that would make any long gun an assault rifle.

Yea. Only a few of the third generation models are legal in MA due to the dealer ban on any Glock manufactured past October 1998 (thanks dimwit Attorney General!).

Even the second gens seem hard to come by at times.

From what I have read and heard, you will be grandfathered in if there are changes, so better get while the getting is good.

In Florida, there are 70 bins of unprocessed CCW applications and, surprisingly, they have budgeted for 60 more state employees to help with the backlog, mostly in the criminal background department.

Also surprising, they are still doing well in processing in the mandated 90 day period for concealed carry.

Wow, that is a long time to wait for a permit. Here in Ohio, once you go through all the mandated testing, background check, etc. it took me 3 days to get my permit. :)

In Michigan it can take up to 6 weeks once you submit your paperwork, fee, finger prints, and photos. Renewals tend to come quicker. It varies greatly depending on what county you're in.

That's the beauty of being in a "shall issue" state I guess. That, plus I don't have to demonstrate some specific "need" to bear arms in order to be granted permission to carry.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I'll be applying for mine as soon as my 21st rolls around. In Virginia they aren't difficult to get and my Clerk of my local Circuit Court seemed to believe I'd have no trouble getting mine pretty quickly. Whenever you all get the chance support the right to concealed carry on college campuses. I'm a Virginia Tech student, and after the events of April 16th, 2007 I'm even more firm in my resolve to carry all the time. A knife only does so much good.

I don't have time to get on my soap box about it, but if you haven't read anything by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman I highly recommend it. All you LEOs and military personnel out there MUST read On Combat and On Killing. GREAT books.

...I digress.

Concealed Carry = Good.

I'm 99% sure Alabama is a shall issue state. In shall issue states all you need to be is a non-felon basically. There are a few alcohol or domestic abuse misdemeanors that will also disqualify you. Anyway, in other states you often have to be a business owner, or someone who does bank drops, something some biased gun board considers a "need". Michigan was like this prior to 7/1/01, although the scrutiny varied by county.

They have tried the serial number thing a few times in different states, and it hasn't worked so far. Hopefully it won't in any state. I am a reloader so the serial number thing would pretty much put me out of business as far as rolling my own.

I hope they change there minds and remember what happened when they passed the Brady bill. A lot of congressmen lost there seats.

The problem is that it's taking almost 3 months just to process the applications and file the fingerprints. When I applied, I did the electric fingerprints and it cut about a month off the process, but that's not the case anymore. I recall the wait being much worse than a shipment of cigars.

There are litterally thousands of applications rolling in to the Dept Of Agriculture and I think you really don't know who's carrying in Florida anymore.

You're right on. What kind of uproar there would be if they proposed a law requiring a training class, a fee, and a permit to exercise your first amendment rights?

Think about it, now that the Supreme Court has ruled the second amendment is an individual right, the fight should be all but won. Now the NRA should start going after infringement in all of its many forms: registration, any/all restrictions on types and classifications, excessive fees, or delays/waiting periods.

Next on the list of laws to strike down should be any that restrict carry. The second amendment doesn't just garauntee the right to keep arms, but to BEAR them.

I have a girl here in the office was beside herself, baffled as I attempted to explain to her there was no official gun registration in Florida. She was informing me something she had learned the night before; that if a person files an injunction against a person in the state of Florida, that person will receive a visit from local law enforcement and will have their guns confiscated. I asked her how that was enforceable as there was no gun registry in Fl. She was convinced that there should be a gun registry and that people should be licensed and that gun ownership was a privelege, not a right.

Oh, BTW....? No explanation as to why she thought that. Only that in her mind, that's the way it should be.

Exactly. Almost everytime an anti-gunner tries to throw some BS at me, I just ignore them. Sometimes, if a person is willing to listen, I will try to have a friendly debate with them. No name calling, calm voices, etc.

Sadly, the only item that guarantees our freedom (gun) in America has been demonized by our PC society and politicians. This is just one of the ways to cripple a nation into socialism/communism.

I am in a Harley Davidson forum and there was a 35 page debate that started with the OP asking the best firearm to carry on a motorcycle.

It degraded into a bunch of anti gun fools stating that common sense and a cel phone are the best weapons and people who carry are trying to portray a tough guy image.

I wish that was the case here in Florida.

Catfish 03-05-2009 10:58 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Common sense and a cell phone, eh?

I'm not saying I disagree entirely. In my personal opinion, a lot of people could stay out of a lot more trouble than they get into if they used a skosh more common sense.

I arm myself to protect myself and my family from those who wish to do us harm.
