I was getting really, really tired of the local sports talk clowns saying 'Homer Bailey goes for his second no-hitter in a row, can he do it?'

I know it's hard to gin up excitement for baseball as a sport sometimes but geez, overreach much do we?

Does Dusty know anything about hitting? Every time someone struggles he claims they need to be more aggressive. Someone called him out last night in post game about the Reds leading the MLB in first pitch swings-and-misses. It seems like Votto is the only one with any patience. :bh

Bailey has turned into a Jeckyl/Hyde type of pitcher. You never know which version you get on any given night.

I think the only reason that people expect greatness is because somehow he has pitched 2 no-hitters.

It's not just the no hitters. He shows the qualities of an ace a lot of times, then he'll "pull a Homer" for a while. Flashes of brilliance and maturity, then an outing that makes us wonder.

I'm glad that a national audience got to see what Reds fans see on a daily basis. He's a human highlight reel.

A lot of the times? He is mediocre most of the times I watch. Hell, he is 5-8 this year and has the highest ERA on the team. Flashes of brilliance make up about 1 in 10 starts, not even close to +50% of his starts. His defense behind him would make a lot of pitching look good.

Are the Reds rested and ready after the All Star break? Maybe so, they're 1-0 since restarting. That calls for a mild :tu

When it looks like the team is on a roll... Losing three in a row to the Dodgers just kills that momentum. Once again, this team can't beat teams with winning records. That's not gonna cut it in the playoffs, especially a one game playoff.

I really can't believe it. The team got better on paper this off-season, but the product on the field just looks terrible sometimes. The Cardinals just came in and kicked their ass 2 out of 3. The Reds have absolutely no leadership or fire, no one looks like they give a crap. Maybe behind closed doors its different, but on the field or in the dugout everyone just looks like they give up when something bad happens. Between guys like Phillips showboating normal plays and complaining about his $75M contract, to Dusty not ever having a solution or even a thought of a solution, to Votto being the face of the franchise and never speaking up, this team just looks disjointed and distant from each other.

Who cares how many back in the division we are? If the season ended now, we would be in the playoffs due to the wildcard.

The Cards didn't look good at this point in the season when they won their last WS, so there's still hope. But the Cards also have a record of winning when it counts. We don't have that record. Not since 1990 anyways.

The Cards and Bucs are looking kinda rough right now.

Re: Red's Fans Check in

Reds have won five in a row. Against not-so-hot teams, but still...

Best thing I saw was Broxton's ninth inning close against the Cubs a couple days ago. He was having great success with a pitch I'd call a 'high in the strike zone' fastball. Batters would either whiff on it or make very poor contact.

I just hope we Aren't getting hot too early. I'd hope they'd hit a hot streak that will carry them through the playoffs, but they start it now and could peak too soon.
Fingers crossed.

You posted that comment about one week too early, Dan. Yikes, accidentally came across a replay of last night's debacle while channel surfing the tv this afternoon. Man, I couldn't flip back to that Gunsmoke rerun on TVLand quick enough!

Re: Red's Fans Check in

Very disappointing play the last two games in StLouis. People like to blame Dusty, but really, if a team can't get motivated to play well in a series like this.......there really is nothing that needs to be said by the manager, they know they have to TCOB, but they play like it doesn't matter. They're still my team, I've been a lifelong fan since I was 6 years old (that would be 1960...LOL).

Another lackluster performance in Colorado. As much of a fan as I am, I just don't think they're good enough to win the division. Hope I'm wrong and they really get hot at the right time.

Starscream 09-02-2013 08:19 AM

Re: Red's Fans Check in

Let STL win the division. It will be easier to play the Bucs in a one game playoff. If we keep playing like we have of late, it won't matter anyway.

You stay for the whole game, Dan? It would be too easy to groan about the outcome about last night; trying to look ahead with hope for tonight's "titanic struggle" to make it three wins out of four.
