If you're into Porters you have to try a bourbon barrel. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
BTW, Four Roses started shipping bottles of their 2009 Barrel Proof limited edition this week. Only 1,836 total bottles produced. I just picked up a few today at the Liquor Barn. I have a wicked cold right now, so I'm going to try some out over the weekend most likely.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Out of respect I will list Wild Turkey as number one. It has been, since 1980, my staple bourbon
and it's like saying you don't love your mother anymore because you met another woman. But after that, Woodford Reserve is the total package. I have not tried many of the others in this thread, since I AM loyal to the old Turkey. It can get in the way when you are not a rich man. You don't have the fundage' to walk into a liquor store and "try" something new. You go for what you know. (not that money spent on a bottle of whiskey that cost alot of money would be WASTED, per se'...it's whiskey, after all.) Plus, my mad money is spoken for. Fidel said he needeed it to carry out his commie plan.;) |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Ladies and gentleman, today I hit the jackpot when it comes to bourbon collecting. I was able to pick up 2 sets (2 bottles per set) of the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection. To give you an idea how rare these bottles are, each bottle is filtered using a different method. Each bottle is .375 liters. Only ONE barrel is used per bottling with an evaporation rate of 51%. Needless to say, these are next to impossible to get. I've been trying to get a hold of a set for a few years now, finally today I got my keep. Now the question is if I'll open them, lol.

Woke up to a bottle of Knob Creek this morning. The wife maid a good choice this year. :D Wasn't planning an doing any drinking today, though I had to sit down for a taste or two.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Enjoy the Knob Creek while you can. Apparently they are coming up on a shortage and don't have enough to finish out the year. The good thing is that they refuse to bottle next years release early so that quality remains.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I finally cracked open my bottle of Eagle Rare 17 from the '08 antique collection.... and it is good!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
That's some good stuff. I think I'm going to get a 1.75 of either Woodford or Eagle Rare to take on vacation for my step-dad and I for the week.
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I've been working on a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 for about two weeks and I've been loving it...
|
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I need to decide what to take to FL next week. I have some Woodford Reserve, Ridgemont 1792, and Four Roses Small Batch. What do you think I should take?

Between the 3 choices, I'd say Woodford.
Good to the last drop.:) |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Then again, my local Costco carries Makers Mark 1.75 liter bottles at $34.99, so I always go for them.

Mine doesn't.
Can't speak for all of them, though, as different locations seem to carry different items. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I've seen Knob Creek at Costco before. Can't remember the price though.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I had a nice little treat today. While out visiting shops I stopped by one of my accounts and I forgotten I had left a bottle of Buffalo Trace in my Stepdad's locker. Hadn't had it in a while so I took a few minutes and had a glass while smoking with the owner. It was a slow sales day so it brightened my afternoon. I wish Buffalo Trace was available in GA, but it gives me a reason to visit SC (not that hanging with the PSHC wasn't enough :D)

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
hate to make you old lushes feel too good about yourselves, but out of all the specialty threads at CA, this is by far the most useful. I discovered Woodford Reserve one day when I was hung over from Wild Turkey. I took a chance and I guess I got lucky. A man with money in hand and not much knowledge could make a mistake with all the stuff out there. The top shelf doesn't get too much of a threat from me, but I do like to splurge now and again. These reccos will come in very handy if I ever see another dollar.
