I had the Jeffersons and it was very good. I enjoy beer and bourbon so this beer was perfect in my opinion. If you like bourbon in general, I do not see any reason why you would not try it. They go great with cigars too. :ss

I have been drinking Four Roses thanks to Nickyteen and it is really good. I love all kinds of whiskey, but this might be turning me torward bourbon as my go to.

Jeffersons is very good. More consistant than most I've had. BBC made a Pappy bourbon barrel that about knocked me out of the chair. Very good and without a doubt strong.

If you're into Porters you have to try a bourbon barrel.

BTW, Four Roses started shipping bottles of their 2009 Barrel Proof limited edition this week. Only 1,836 total bottles produced. I just picked up a few today at the Liquor Barn. I have a wicked cold right now, so I'm going to try some out over the weekend most likely.

But before I do, I have a question....

How does this compare to other Ryes out there? Which other one should I give a chance?

I have been revisiting this bottle the last few nights, and I must say, I like it a lot more now than when I first tried it. I don't know if I like it enough to buy another bottle, but I like it enough not to completely write Rye off. I'll have to pick up some Rittenhouse and see what I think then.

Thanks. I love bourbon and beer, so it sounds like the perfect combination. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for some. Goose Island beers are pretty readily available around me, and I heard their Bourbon County Stout is amazing.

Purchse advice needed. I love elijah Craig 18... the vanilla/toffee on the nose is outstanding. I am looking for something just as "sweet" if not sweeter and smooth. Any recommendations?

I think that a bottle of Elmer T Lee may be just what you are looking for. Definitely one of the sweetest bourbons I have had and it also has many toffee/vanilla/carmel/honey etc. types of flavors you typically find in sweet bourbons that you said you liked in the Elijah Craig. For about $25-30 a bottle, it's easy on the wallet too. It's made by Buffalo Trace so its easy to find too.

Out of respect I will list Wild Turkey as number one. It has been, since 1980, my staple bourbon
and it's like saying you don't love your mother anymore because you met another woman.
But after that, Woodford Reserve is the total package. I have not tried many of the others
in this thread, since I AM loyal to the old Turkey. It can get in the way when you are not
a rich man. You don't have the fundage' to walk into a liquor store and "try" something new.
You go for what you know. (not that money spent on a bottle of whiskey that cost alot of
money would be WASTED, per se'...it's whiskey, after all.) Plus, my mad money is spoken for.
Fidel said he needeed it to carry out his commie plan.;)

Ladies and gentleman, today I hit the jackpot when it comes to bourbon collecting. I was able to pick up 2 sets (2 bottles per set) of the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection. To give you an idea how rare these bottles are, each bottle is filtered using a different method. Each bottle is .375 liters. Only ONE barrel is used per bottling with an evaporation rate of 51%. Needless to say, these are next to impossible to get. I've been trying to get a hold of a set for a few years now, finally today I got my keep. Now the question is if I'll open them, lol.

Woke up to a bottle of Knob Creek this morning. The wife maid a good choice this year. :D Wasn't planning an doing any drinking today, though I had to sit down for a taste or two.

Enjoy the Knob Creek while you can. Apparently they are coming up on a shortage and don't have enough to finish out the year. The good thing is that they refuse to bottle next years release early so that quality remains.

That's some good stuff. I think I'm going to get a 1.75 of either Woodford or Eagle Rare to take on vacation for my step-dad and I for the week.

LOL, I was about to pose a similar question. To answer yours first, I'd say the Four Roses. Now onto mine.

I'm going on vacation next week and need to buy a 1.75 of bourbon. Should I do Woodford, Eagle Rare, or Knob Creek?

I had a nice little treat today. While out visiting shops I stopped by one of my accounts and I forgotten I had left a bottle of Buffalo Trace in my Stepdad's locker. Hadn't had it in a while so I took a few minutes and had a glass while smoking with the owner. It was a slow sales day so it brightened my afternoon. I wish Buffalo Trace was available in GA, but it gives me a reason to visit SC (not that hanging with the PSHC wasn't enough :D)

hate to make you old lushes feel too good about yourselves, but out of all the specialty threads at CA, this is by far the most useful. I discovered Woodford Reserve one day when I was hung over from Wild Turkey. I took a chance and I guess I got lucky. A man with money in hand and not much knowledge could make a mistake with all the stuff out there. The top shelf doesn't get too much of a threat from me, but I do like to splurge now and again. These reccos will come in very handy if I ever see another dollar.

What a whiskey drinker buys rarely has anything to do with marketing or trends, it's what you are comfortable with and can enjoy at a price that makes you feel alright. Not that trying everything is bad. I just rarely seem to find the time in between bottles of Turkey. I know I have said that already, but It's what gets poured at my house. What I will try after reading this thread is Basil Hayden's and that bonded rye. Next year I might try something else new, lol.
