Thank God for Molina and Matt. C. I know the Cards had to slump at some point but vs the Cubs is just not the time to do it!

Including today, it's been an incredible run of poor pitching ... bad enough to make me cringe. Hope they straighten it out on the west-coast.

With Garcia on the mound and the run lately I expected to wake up to a bad loss this morning. I was happy with what I saw. Looks like he pitched pretty well. Funny that Freeze does not hit a HR for 17 at bats until today and he is being said to be in a slump, lol!

I expected the same thing ... what a pleasant surprise.

It's amazing what good pitching can do for you ... can't expect to out-slug the other team every game.

I'm a little worried about the injury bug. First, Beltran. Then, Jay. Now, I hear that Craig has some sort of hamstring issue that may keep him out through the road-trip. All key players ... not good.

Salas walked in the winning run? On four pitches?

Yeah, WTF? It's bad enough that injuries are popping up left and right. I really thought that Matheny was being overly cautious early on my giving so many days off to the guys. But the Cards have to get the basics together like they were in the beginning of the season. Also I'm betting that Beltran ends up on the DL shortly with he knees.

Maybe it would help if he just stood still out in right field. I doubt if we would notice the defensive difference. Sorry ... kinda grumpy.

:r Mornings can be a b*tch at times.

I think Beltran is very good in the outfield. He is very smooth and natural out there and has a cannon for an arm. It may be that for the past few weeks he has kept the knees under wraps and that is hampering his efforts:sh

It's not that he is missing balls that are hit right to him. He's just not able to get to a lot of balls that a lot of outfielders could reach. That leaves a sizable gap down the right-field line (saw this last week when we were at the game) and forces the centerfielder to cover more ground than is humanly possible (saw this last night with balls hit into a "gap" that shouldn't have been there).

Looks like my prediction was a little off:td Realistically who would have expected the Cards to stay on top for the whole season? It's still very early and I think it is somewhat of a good thing for the wheels to come off at this point so they can figure it out. But this bullpen needs to remember last year and get it together. And Mathney should reconsider giving so many int walks, I have faith!

Berkman out for the season. Sorry for your loss. As a Reds fan, it still kinda sucks b/c you always want to face the best competition. This one is gonna hurt the Cards.

Still, it's not over yet. Just look what you guys managed to do last year with a lot of holes in the roster.

688sonarmen 05-21-2012 08:51 PM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

It does look like Lance Berkman is out, not only for the season. I really have to say he was one of the most important players last year that lead the Cards to #11, not only for his bat and glove but his presence on the team. The is no one that can fill those shoes.

Good news the losing streak was broken tonight. But I'm still asking myself why Garcia was left in after he was showing signs of struggling after the 7th. I will also say he is the only starter to routinely go 7 innings, who would have thought?

Hell of a game last night, rally after rally but in the end a 6-0 deficit was a little much to come back on. I think Freeze tore the cover off the ball "The Natural" style on his home run. Something like 430+'? 2nd longest in new Busch history. But pitching has to get better and the umps strike zone can't be an excuse.

Missed the game. But I saw in the box score that Salas had his name in the ususal spot ... next to the L. Didn't look like Westbrook pitched much of a game either. Glad to see that the rest seemed to really help Freeze. Heard that Berkman had his knee surgery this morning.

Matt Adams caught my attention during Spring Training. He was tearing it up at AAA. Only 23 years old, with 29 at-bats in StLu, he's hitting .345 with 5 extra base hits. Is he ready for prime-time?

First NoNo for the Cards since 1990. But, I was actually more disturbed by the 8 runs we gave up. I'm afraid the farm call-ups aren't going to fix the pitching problems.

Seems like the MLB has figured out the Cards pitching. It started off so great and now it's looking like a train wreck. The guys have the stuff but the wheels keep falling off. Things are not looking good with all the injuries, I mean if and when the main squad comes back are they going to play right? The way things are going AAA Memphis is going to be the 40 man roster:td

How does the Cards farm system look at this point? Anybody they could offer as trade bait later in the season? I know Cincy pretty much gave up the whole farm to get Latos and Marshall in the offseason, so they're not going to make any big impact trade before the deadline.

From what I understand Andy the system is very good and where several of the new roster players came from. Problem is that well is only so deep and I'm not sure how many more players there are.

You guys have had a lot of call-ups this season. No time like the present to prove themselves.

Yes they do. Matt Adams is playing 1st right now, at least he is there in physical form. With the errors he pulled last night I'm not sure where his mind is.

Lets get this out of the way first.. Cards Lose, Cards Lose, Cards Lose, Cards Lose.
But last night felt like the good old days, albeit against the Astros. I stopped watching after Greene struck out in the 7th and I should not have cause they opened it up! Lynn was already 10 strikeouts into the game and got another in the 8th. Allen Craig is playing exceptional well (must mean he is on the way to the DL, Lol) Freese had a GS and another 2 run homer. But it was the pitching that was the best part. Thank God that the farm system is deep and has produced the jewels like Lynn.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Just heard that Garcia is going on the DL. May be time to get serious about a trade for some pitching.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Glad to see Jay back in the lineup. He plays a wicked centerfield. And, for some odd reason, the whole team seems to play better when he's in there.

688sonarmen 06-23-2012 08:02 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Very true, Jay was his normal self last night which was awesome! I watched the game and the Royals pitching really helped us. But having Jay and Matt Carpenter back really filled in those holes. The new guy Kelly was OK but he has consistency issues and I think once the batters figure him out there will be problems. A lot of the scoring hits were from bad fielding from the Royals outfield or very close balls that could have been fouls. Either way I hope the Cards get that feeling back and run with it!

My little 5 year old nephew live near KC but is a big Cards fan. He was going to the game today but was getting grief about wanting to wear his Cardinals stuff. Talked to him on the phone last night and told him he had my vote to wear his Holliday jersey. Hope he did and yelled real loud for each of Matt's 4 hits.

No, still watch all the games just hard to keep it interesting with just 2 fans here. The game was awesome, full of dramatics and Yaddi was a beast. St Louis is a great city and I'm sad to go back to reality.

Things not looking good for Yaddi. I can't believe he held onto the ball. I hope for his sake he is not messed up by the collision.

He wasn't in good shape anyway and this certainly isn't going to help. I hear the MRI didn't show anything serious but we will just have to see. It will be a big loss behind the plate and at the plate if he misses a lot of games. Don't know much about Brian Anderson who they called up from AAA.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Well we can safely say he is no Molina. Looks like he was a 4th round pick and played 15 games for the Cards with decent averages. Cruz on the other hand is swinging the bat well but does he have what it takes to be a leader? Just saw that Molina "hopes" to return Friday or Sunday, like you said he already had injuries (ankles, back, and who knows what else) I also heard that he has been hurt several times this year but it was kept hush hush. All I know is the past few days it hurt watching him bat and run the bases with his ankle. If he is not ready to come back he should IMHO rest, but I know he won't.

This quote by Yaddi about the collision (He says it was a clean play) is pretty Rad.

"You can slide around me or you can go after me. He decided to go after me. And he was out."

He's one tough guy. Sure missed him in the lineup against Pirates. Every year, one team seems to have our number. This year, it's the Pirates.

Agree, last night was painful to watch. Kelly is good out of the pen but not a starter just yet. The loss of Carp is really starting to be felt. Not sure if this is good news or not yet but Yaddi is saying he is playing today.

We also have tickets to the Nats game on Saturday.

Quiet? I think every Cards fan is just holding their breath right now to see if we can make it to that one-game playoff with the Braves.

The club has a tough 6-game run to the end of the season. The Brewers and Dodgers aren't far behind. And, the players are pretty beat up.

If nothing else, the next few days ought to be exciting.
