Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

I just drank my first cup of Cold-Brewed coffee. I took the cheapest coffee I could find on the shelf at
Big Lahts and dumped a haf pound into a tea pitcher and filled with water and this morning after
14 hours I tested it on the biggest coffee addict in the shop here and he was not un-impressed.
Lots of expensive coffee flavors and I could totally control the strength. Nice. I will try it with some
Community tonight at home.

Nope, just the leavings from whatever coffee I been drinking. I put them in a special container when there is not enough left to make a pot. And once a week or so, just grind and brew whatever is there. Sometimes it is AMAZINGLY GOOD :D

just a quick qeustion. i was at the local market and they have roasted beans for sale. the beans are in a clear bag which allows you to see inside. the bag has some oil from the beans on it, so does that mean that they are not good anymore?

Hard to say. Where were they roasted? When were they roasted? What are they? Oil is normal, it seeps outa the beans after they have been roasted, or during, depending on how dark you roast them. Also, different ways of roasting will produce more or less of the oil. Air roasting=less

Once you hit a dark Vienna or Darker (French) the natural oils will come to the surface of the bean. If they are not that old, they are probably fine.

You really oughta see if you can find a local roaster and buy some fresh. You got Dunn Bros out there?

Zeuceone 03-31-2011 07:00 PM

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

There is a local roaster but I wanted to get something better for my parents, other than folgers. The market has 5x the amount for the same amount than the local roaster. Not sure if the roaster has something more generic in a larger quantity.

I'm grinding my way through a bag of succulent Ugandan beans that tech-ninja was kind enough to send me. These are dark, a little smokey, and delicious. I used them to make a batch of cold-brew concentrate and mixed up a pint of sweetened half & half to go along with it. I can't wait for the next cup!

Right now it's Colombia Finca Buenavistsa, Carlos Imbachi at Full City +.
Very nice. The darker roast actually gave it a tiny bit of Spice, which I love. Nice Dark Toast notes and a slight citrus twang.

Re: COFFEE: What are you drinking?

Great coffee shop here in Austin called Ruta Maya. Definately a "Keep Austin Wierd" kind of place. In fact a good friend of mine was part owner in the company until he passed last year. Miss you much Jon! RIP

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...4/rutamaya.jpg

Ruta Maya coffee is all organic and roasted right in good 'ol Austin. I think its wonderful. It can be found at many Costco stores also.

Oh, they also have a great little cigar shop in the Austin coffee shop, Habana House. Fantastic little spot and they keep their humidor in tip top condition.
