I love that SFTB, Tony, Mike (chibnkr) brought me one a few weeks back that is outstanding.

Whhhoooo boy this stuff is good. One of my many problems seems to be I like more expensive bourbons. I get some great recommendations seeing what you more experienced bourbon drinkers enjoy. Saves me time :)

I wasn't going to but a friend ended up talking me into it, they sold through 200 bottles at the distillery last weekend then about 1700 on the online presale yesterday, should be about 1000 left for the general sale tomorrow. Wish I knew you wanted it I would have passed along the presale info, it took most of the day to sell out and while the general will probably end up selling out, I bet it will be attainable if you're online whenever they go live

I got into some Russell's Reserve SB last night. I really enjoy it. I'm going to have to grab another bottle or three next time I see it on the shelves.

I really wasn't going to, because I need more bourbon like a hole in my head, but then a local friend asked if I could get him one and I figured if I order one for myself that's basically half off shipping. Who could pass up a deal like that? :noon:noon:noon:noon:noon

Not surprised, with the number available and the hype it got on YouTube.

Starting to see EC A124 around my area. My go to B&M should get it next week. While I was there, snagged a bottle of OF 1920. Also found out the assistant manager smokes cigars. Guess who’s getting a fiver? :D

I like the OF1920. Tried it twice at a Bourbon pub at Northstar. Very enjoyable. But at the pub it’s dang near Macallan 12 Sherry cost and for me, Macallan is just better.

Nice idea on a SWAG for the assistant manager. Networking always works hah.

Nice pours all around! The orange guy is the only Weller (outside of the compass one) that I haven't tried, I paid $20 for a pour of CYPB once and thought it was worth about half that

I'm sure the Weller SiBs are inconsistent, Ben, though this is the first I've tried. I wouldn't pay more than MSRP for a bottle.

Got the call that the Blantons Gold barrel was in, I think they said there were only two barrels allocated to Colorado this year, likely less than the amount Specs got but I'll take it. By this time next year Blantons Gold picks will be common and everybody will be fighting over Weller 12 picks :r

So a friend of mine dropped off a bottle of Coopers’ Craft 100 yesterday. A friend of his said it reminds him of EHT SB. I did a side by side comparison and sure enough they are very similar in flavor profile. The finish of the EHT is better, more complex. But if you want a budget EHT, give this one a shot.

Nice pickups all around! I've never run across one of those OF ryes, I haven't gone out of my way for one since I'm usually a little iffy on Old Forester products but would definitely pick one up if I had the chance, I've heard they are delicious

I have a video call on Sunday to taste the final matchup of the ECBP bracket and find out the results, I used what was left of the ones that didn't make it to the end to go back and rank them all so soon I'll know which ones I'm looking for extra backups of and which need to be sold to fund that :r

Steph and I are at my folks' in Indianapolis for the eclipse. We went by Total Wine to see what was interesting. I grabbed a bottle of Ezra Brooks CS, Still Austin CS (which I've never had but heard good things about) and another OGD 114 simply because it was cheaper than I can get on my local AF base. I also grabbed a Knappogue Castle 12-year Old Single Malt, but that's for a different discussion. :)

Love to hear your thoughts on the Still Austin. The Knappogue as well hah. I’ve been digging Red Breast of late when not dive bombing on Bookers.

This Bookers Mighty Fine Batch is my new fad Drink du jour. The Viaje Lime was good as well. Bit of finished my taxes celebration.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

The ECBP March Madness tournament has come to an end. Overall my three favorites in order were C919, B519 and A120, but using the full group of 12 the overall favorite was A119 followed by C919 and A120 (B519 came in 5th with the group). My least favorite were A122, A123 and B521 while the group had A123, A121 and B521 on the bottom.

I went into this whole thing thinking C919 and A120 were my favorites but the majority of the people expected B520 to come out on top, it ended up 4th from the bottom. Funny enough I tried to avoid guessing batches but for one I wrote down "B520?" and it ended up being that one, but compared to other batches it isn't as rounded. That was the first barrel proof bourbon I tried that made things click and put the grease on the slope so it'll always be a winner to me :tu

icehog3 04-09-2024 08:17 AM

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Very cool, Ben, I wish I had had bigger samples and could have really done some serious blind comparisons. Not surprised C919 was near the top. Very surprised that B520 was near the bottom, and that A119 wasn't.

Very cool Ben. Fun to be able to do a blind test. Never know how things will turn out.

Can be tough as taste for myself changes on my mood, time of day, and what I have eaten that day. But it’s all in the experience :)

Working on this bottle now. Incredibly sweet. Intense flavors of vanilla and caramel. So intense that for me it’s better with a some ice cubes.

I did go and get two more bottles on order so it gets my buy a bottle or two approval.

Cracked it about an hour ago. Neck pour, so take it for what that means. It’s pretty darn good. Very pleasant/strong nose. The standard vanilla/caramel on the palate, but there’s a taste of like a cherry cola mixed with a rock n rye. For ~$55, it’s worth picking up.

The same store had two bottles of the Thomas H Handy Sazerac Rye for $799/ea. Yeehaw!

Whoa!!!!! Nice markup on that!!!! I got mine for $179. But the Bookers I’ve been buying are marked up I think anywhere from 50% - 100% over MSRP. And the last buy had an option for a tip. No comments on the tip or I would have said use 25% of your 100% markup for the tip.

The new normal around the West Coast.

Took some beer over to give to my nieces husband. Some older CBS and a few others. Wasn’t expecting anything in return, but he gave me a bottle of Eagle Rare. :tu

Hit up a few stores out that way. Grabbed a store pick of FKNG Straight Bourbon. Looks like it’s 6 year old MGP high rye juice. The sample he gave me sold me on it. Very tasty.

QT bought me a pour of '23 GTS in Georgia this weekend. 135 proof of deliciousness.

Nice pickup there, Dave. Was told we’d see the 24-01 sometime in June.

Tom, I had to do a double take. First time I missed the word pour. Here I’m thinking QT hit the parlay on tiger making the cut and used her winnings to buy you a bottle.
