Re: Photography Thread
OK, this is a pretty cool place for me to share as a photo. This is the old Supreme court building in New Orleans, or a doorway of it anyway.
When I was a boy, this building also housed the LA Wildlife and Fisheries Museum, which was unbelievable for a kid. We would take field trips here often, and the place was PACKED with stuffed wildlife in dioramas. Bears, coyotes, raccoons, snakes and snakes and snakes.... a couple of really nice aquariums as well. I know there was other stuff in there, natural history and geology and stuff, but there is no competition for a young LA boy. This is another of those breaking dawn shots I get when the sun starts to bounce rays up and over the horizon, and wherever I am in the Quarter at the time ends up getting the good light. Although we are fairly advanced in that time here.......Snap Snap. http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps330f7dd9.jpg |

Re: Photography Thread
Damn Justin, i was just there this past Thursday! Beautiful day it was for beach walking and photo shooting. I missed that museum, though, but I did get some shots of the main lobby area of the Flagler College. I have to wait until I get home to post anything since the hotel seems to have the card reader slots on the PC shut off... :td

Re: Photography Thread
The weather officially sucked while I was down south! It was nice when I arrived, but it was already later in the day. Tuesday: all day downpour. Wednesday: clear, but pretty chilly with a steady 25 MPH wind. Thursday in Saint Augustine was perfect. Friday: ANOTHER all day downpour. Saturday: Cool, drizzly, and miserable all freaking day. Sunday: Better, not perfect but after the previous days it was fine. Monday (OF COURSE when I had to leave) SUNNY and WARM!! :sl Whatever pics I managed to get will follow shortly.

Re: Photography Thread
I dug up the ancestors of these Iris in the marsh ponds south of New Orleans while we were "fishing for TV" back in the late 80s.
Technically, they are the same plant, I guess. They were grown in St. Louis, MO, Concord, NC and now in the mountains of western NC. OOps, NOT there.....in Memphis, INSTEAD of western NC. My mother couldn't or didn't want to move them and deal with them up in the high elevations. I imagine I will dig one up for her, though, and take it to her when I visit soon. This is one of my two favorite Nikkor manual focus lenses, an 85mm f/2. My real favorite of the two is the 105mm f/2.5. Both of them create such wonderful photos. I think the 105mm can be had used these days for $150 or so, worth every single penny, IMO. 85mms seem to demand an unfair (to me) premium and are tough to get under about $250. But the F/2 seems to be a really good performer in a wide variety of light conditions, despite the "slow" f/2. Everyone seems to want the 1.4 or 1.8, and they are surely fine lenses. I just mean I have never thought "if I only had the 1.4" http://i1294.photobucket.com/albums/...ps91ba09d4.jpg |

Re: Photography Thread
I ought to have some nice portraits next week, nothing racy (I don't think) when I shoot some promo shots for a young
and hungry country singer in town. Hard working young lady, but NOT WAY talented. But she writes and plays well enough, and dogs don't cover their ears when she sings, so she will get there I hope. She mostly "sweets" her way into a crowd's hearts, and the music works it's way into folks as the night goes on. But I really wanted the chance to shoot some stuff like this for free just to show I can do it and to generate a little interest in a music-rich town. And most of these people just have no money. If my hobby's product is the only thing holding them back from being noticed, I want to do something to make it a cheaper and easier road for them. This is a learning hobby for me right now, but if I can make money for it one day when I am too old to want to work, it sure will be a great help. |

Re: Photography Thread
VERY sexy and sweet girls. One of the 'odd' things about them is that wherever they play a lot, they have 'uncles'
whom they stay with while they are in town, and in Memphis, that is my friend Mark. I got close to them over the last 3-4 years and was able to see them go from two good solo acts to a terrific duo. I would love for them to hit it big in some form. Nothing but love for the Midtown Violets.
