Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I finally "got a guy" at my local Binny's. Called me up and put aside an EH Taylor Barrel Proof for me. I've seen them on secondary and forget about paying those prices, but at retail, I'm a happy (and lucky) camper.
https://i.imgur.com/mR1eFWn.jpg Also received another bottle t8ke (Jay West) picked, a 9 year wheated bourbon at 115 proof. I like the last pick so I took a chance. Review to follow when I crack it. https://i.imgur.com/Hhi7pGf.jpg |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Cracked the C923. Love the palate...flavors and mouthfeel are dynamite. The finish I'm not as crazy about, I am hoping it improves with a little air and time.
So far it does not crack my Top 3 of ECBP batches. https://i.imgur.com/8fYmKBE.jpg Ben, I'll try and make that happen. Question is, why would he want to drink with me? :lr |

We're in a few of the same groups so I talk to him fairly regularly, he's great with suggestions for literally any wine or spirit. He was in Denver a couple months ago so I met up with him and a few other guys, he gets tired of people from the industry so when he travels he usually just meets up with whoever is around |

I grabbed another ECBP B523 today. It's not often I find ECBP so I figured why not.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!

Stopped by Total Wine on my way home from my friends cottage. They had a few Penelope bottles in stock. Grabbed the Architect, the one finished with French Oak staves. Just cracked it open and first sip, not bad. I like the MM French Oaked, so I took a shot on this one.
Also stopped by another store while I waited on my dinner. Was told by the owner that Michigan only got 300 bottles of the MM BEP. He got one and kept it. Idk, we’ll see if it pops up at other stores. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Drove to a liquor store with a bar about 40 miles West and had a pour of Jack Daniel's Coy Hill. It was outstanding and makes me want to sample a hazmat version even more.
https://i.imgur.com/RvHM4g3.jpg Picked up a couple different Four Roses picks as well, not sure if I will try to sell or trade them. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Nice finds all around! I've only tried Coy Hill once, at a bar in KY after drinking King of Kentucky and a few other serious hitters. CH was $15 and felt like the only thing I would be able to taste, it definitely wasn't shy on my palate but I couldn't really tell you how it tasted. I have a sample I need to try at some point when I'm not feeling so fried
Capped off my Red Rocks season in style last night :ss https://i.postimg.cc/L89XC0tX/PXL-20...3501232-MP.jpg |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Steph wanted to get me some bourbons as an early bday present so we went to Maisano's. I chose two store picks I'd previously enjoyed, along with a Penelope I've been wanting to try and the first bottle of Weller I've seen in over four years.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I like that Penelope a lot. The first bottle I had tasted like strawberry cream. I like that Rebel Cast Strength.

I quite enjoyed mine. I guess I should be glad I saw it when I did. They had it on my local AFB one day...and then no more. |

Grabbed a couple different single barrel picks at a Chicagoland store. The Bung Bangers release is 10 years 11 months, the oldest I've seen since Beam discontinued the 14-15 year single barrels some time back.
https://i.imgur.com/h8EdikB.jpg Bob, I think a couple places by me have the Larceny BP, you definitely recommend it? |

Had a couple King Ranch come up on FB yesterday but they were $130 and above. Have yet to see it in a store here, John.
Thank you for the recommendation, Bob. Opened the Four Roses sib pick last night. Even at 115 proof, it's too light for me and I'm not a big fan of the finish. I'll sell or trade the other one. https://i.imgur.com/DTst03E.jpg |

Msrp climbed a bit on King Ranch! I’m not going to chase it, but seems to have hit TX in the last couple day or so.
Edit - LOL at tiny picture. 86.59 clams |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Pretty sure it's TX only, but last release it sat for a couple weeks in some stores so I had friends picking it up every day. Based on the reviews I read of the first release, I'm ok passing but would definitely give it a try if I was near an open bottle :al

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
I have/had a bottle from the original release and liked it. I knew I should have picked up a case back then.
John, I will text you later when I hit up TW. |
Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Recently picked up a bottle of new riff, and a bottle of blantons

Went into several liquor stores this weekend and didn't buy a thing.
Of course, I have something coming UPS today. :lr |

I picked up a bottle of Widow Jane 10-year. It's quite good.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Met up with my friends and their boss to sell him (the boss) my bottle of Old Fitz. The restaurant has a very nice selection of bourbons. Had a 1oz pour of the Makers Mark Cellar Reserve. Wow! You get a huge oak hit right off the bat, but it mellows out into a creamy vanilla. I would buy a bottle at retail if I happened across it.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on High West cask strength? A local store had their barrel pick in. No samples, so I’m not about to drop $95 on a bottle. |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
So the guy I sold the OF to told us a story about the time he and his brother drank a bottle of Pappy 23. Does a yearly fly fishing trip to Wyoming every year with his Dad and brother. First couple years at the lodge, he sees an older gent smoking a cigar on a huge porch. Told that’s the owner and likes to keep to himself. A year or two later as they’re having dinner in the main lodge, the owner comes in and asks if he can join them. Eventually they find out he used to own Ameritrade, thus how he afforded the lodge. More small talk about what he does now. Tells them, “I dabble in baseball”. Turns out it’s Joe Ricketts, owner of the Chicago Cubs. At one point he grabs a bottle and tells them he’s not much of a bourbon drinker himself, maybe they might like it. Yup, Pappy 23. Both brothers spent the rest of the night drinking the bottle.

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Great story!

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Snagged one of these yesterday, had to see if it was worth the ~$300 price tag. Some friends helped with the cost by splitting it up into a few samples, really liked the first pour but feel like it needs a couple more sittings and a little oxygen before it will really show itself, felt restrained on the palate and finish

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Bob, that's crazy. The story, AND 2 guys killing a whole bottle of 23 in 1 night.
Ben, how to you think the Single Rickhouse compares to the RR 13 Year? |

Re: The Bourbon Thread!!
Nice that is compares favorably with the RR13, Ben. I've only had Batch 2 of the 13, but promptly finished it AND found another. :r
Opened up the Knob Creek Bung Bangers last night. It's the oldest KC sib I've seen since they stopped doing 14-15 year sibs. This one is just short of 11 years, and on first pour I'd put it up against the older ones I have. https://i.imgur.com/x0dOgOJ.jpg |
