G&H Brown Flake Unscented in the Todd Harris rusticated brandy, Community Coffee neat out on the patio. Lots of hummingbirds attacking both feeders this morning...:D http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps6ufzh4u6.jpg |
Re: Whats in your bowl?
Enjoyed a bowl of Bengal Slices in the F.Baki meerschaum this morning with a cup of Community Coffee. Really enjoying the personality of this blend. Good stuff:pi

Re: Whats in your bowl?
The weather is moving in, and good old Winnipeg is set for the first snow. Ideal weather for some brooding tobacco.
Peretti Royal blend in my 1967 Dunhill shell briar Lovat. A quite delicious smoke - I think more interesting than Nightcap. Deep, woodsy, nutty. The Yedidje has a really interesting aftertaste. http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...psslv3vlui.jpg |
Re: Whats in your bowl?
Wallace Flake in the Radiator this morning. I love pipes this time of year, everything just seems to smoke better with cold air.

Lane 1Q in a Butz-chacom billiard.
Nice aroma, but not much real flavour. |

Neil, I hear great things about Peretti blends. Have you tried Tashkent, and if so, how did you like it? |

Re: Whats in your bowl?
Had the Tashkent last night in a big Dunhill bent billiard. It is honestly a very good tobacco. So much so I have ordered 8oz of the stuff to put away. Fantastic Baltic flavours. It is not murdered by Latakia. I get a litttle Virginia "old hay" in the background.
I really like it - it's up there with Penzance and Sobranie for intrigue. It's contemplative stuff for sure. I am uncertain is whether or not it is better than the Royal. The price is good too, and you can order wee 1oz sample baggies of his stuff. I'll fire you a sample It's not like I don't have your address or anything......... |
Re: Whats in your bowl?
Some Thanksgiving Day in my Peterson Strand:
http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...psoenqxwqb.jpg The pipe is of high quality and tends to smoke cool, but the blend is just right for moisture. Not cased in anything I could detect. Nice creaminess on the retrohale- almost custard finish. General nuttiness - a decent smoke..... |

This morning's smoke was Comoy's Cask #4 in a no name warden. I like the flake and the price is right but I need to stop doing VA's early in the morning. I need something sturdier to get myself moving. |

Re: Whats in your bowl?
McC Samovar..... good stuff.
|
Re: Whats in your bowl?
I love seeing others enjoying Samovar, one of my favorites.
I've been breaking with the norm and smoking GLP's Va Cream more and more lately. I'm not much of an aromatic fan but this stuff is good. There's plenty of good burley flavor to let you know you're not just steaming sugar. |
Re: Whats in your bowl?
Bald Headed Teacher in an Invictus bulldog. Not bad. Like the room note.
Last night some Stockebeye luxury bullseye in a Comoy apple. Heady stuff - too many relights (I packed it too tight) - led a bit of tongue bite. Amateur! |

Re: Whats in your bowl?
So I recently acquired some Ebony from Peretti. Thinking "ebony and ivory" I popped it in my ancient meer I was sent by Bam-Bam some years ago. The pipe is old, delicate and well loved. It is perfect for gentler aros and Ebony is no exception.....
http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9ykyjwib.jpg The smoke was cool, no bite evident at all. The aroma is confection like (brioche?) but the flavour a somewhat muted nut like burley. It burned to a small amount of sticky dottle- although not excessive. Decent stuff...... |
Re: Whats in your bowl?
Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky in my Ascorti New Dear Billiard. Wonderful blend!

Did a bowl of Peretti Cuban in a half bent.

Re: Whats in your bowl?
Castello Sea Rock billiard full of G&H Louisiana Flake. It was "Fresh" went sent to me, but I believe it is over a year old now. Mellow & smooth!

Peretti Royal Blend in a GBD pot for the morning ride. Excellent medium English with plenty of smokiness. Charring light was very smooth for being fresh. Thanks Neil!

Re: Whats in your bowl?
Hard to say as the smoker but it's not super synthetic like many aros. There is a prominent tobacco taste to it so I would think that translates into the room note. I'll take some to pipe club and see if I can get a better idea.
The taste is where the magic is, it's like smoking cream soda. Sounds wishy-washy but see for yourself. |

Re: Whats in your bowl?
^^^Thanks Todd:tu
Good Evening Pipers. We've been experiencing some well deserved and welcomed rain here in the Santa Clarita Valley today. Started about 4:00PM as a very light rain, and is currently misting at this time. Its supposed to pick-up with intensity later. Love the rain. Earlier this morning, the USPS delivered my new Todd Harris Rusticated Bent Poker. Loaded it with Mac Baren's Scottish Mixture, and it smokes like a charm: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps6vskc9iz.jpg This afternoon, pack the Charatan's Make Perfection 489DC with some Scotty's University Student. Not a bad Va/Bur/Cav blend. I don't smoke inside the house, and I think the aroma of this blend is lost out on the patio. I do enjoy the dense smoke that emits from the bowl just prior to taking a puff though. And, it tends to pick up more in aroma/flavor after about 1/4" has burned. I think this blend would definitely rock inside the home (or maybe your dorm room)http://pipesmokersforum.com/communit...ilies/wink.png I'll keep a pluggin' along with it though... |
Re: Whats in your bowl?
I had some C&D Crooner last night while watching "Holiday Inn" with the wife...it just seemed right! The Deertongue is definitely different, but I gotta say I like it!

Re: Whats in your bowl?
Peterson holiday season in a Peterson System delux.
http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8q9geadk.jpg The pipe I believe is courtesy of Badbriar - either a bomb or asymmetrical trade in which I came out on top. The pipe is reserved for aros and handles them really well, keeping them cool and dry. I think the p-lip helps (?) I guess it's a "bent" - not quite an Oom Paul - smaller and more finesse, more like Cousin Paulina. The 2016 Holiday Season is better than 2015 in my opinion. It is less chocolate cloying and more nut-cream-vanilla. (Think blonde Oreo cookies). Like most aros rather simplistic on the flavour profile, but lovely aroma. The pipe really puts the smoke under your nose. |
Re: Whats in your bowl?
Escudo in an old K&P Peterson. Unique pipe, with really odd rustication. 2 flakes using the roll up and stuff technique. Went for a good half hour with only the first relight. This is an excellent, flavour filled smokey classic.
