I really hate that when Liverpool is playing weaker teams and they park it in from of the goal for 90 mins that Liverpool can only manage to get a draw, while Chelsea and man u will eventually score a goal and take all 3 points.

I don't, ok, I hate it when Chelski takes 3 points, but I love it when Man U wins.

DF, Surely you remember Van Gaal's Ajax side of the middle 90s? They could break down any 11 man bunker put up in front of them. They would patiently stroke the ball outside to middle to out to mid to out to mid.... about 25-35 yards out. As soon as the defense was sufficiently hypnotized they made an incision and scored, seemingly at will.

I miss that team

I miss that team too. Ajax is my team, had a season ticket for years and years, followed them everywhere, even into Eastern Europe. I was there when they beat Milan in the Champions League final, may 24 1995, will never forget that day. I cried, tears of joy, after the final whistle.

I cursed Kluivert's toes that day :D Good for you man, I wish I could have been there as well, those were 2 great teams! I was sad for Jari Litmanen when they broke up, the team was without a doubt better than the individual players, that was serious chemistry

Im still so so on Berbatov, especially when Tevez gets on and does not stop working.

How bout the Deco Goal... Beautiful.. If I scored that I would retire from the game of football right after.

seriously? I think WE would have done better than Sunderland... I would have been able to crush Christiano once...

chemestry, friendship and a great coach. I met both Van Gaal and Litmanen on several occassions, and Van Gaal is nothing like the cranky guy you see in interviews, he is a very warm and funny personality. Jari on the other side is very quiet and shy.

I followed them closely enough to have drawn those very conclusions, their personalities come through on field and technical area. My favorite Van Gaal moment was his high kick impersonation on the sideline, not bad for an old man in a suit! I still have it on VHS somewhere. Favorite Litmanen moment, too many to mention! No one I've seen can shape their body as quicky and precisely to receive a ball or strike it on the volley, his control of himself and technique was impressive.

speaking of Ajax, Ryan Babel had a loan request denied by liverpool.
skysports
I like Ryan Babel, but I think he needs some playing time, I would like to see he and keane up front with Torres injured. Let he, yossi B, and Dirk kuyt move around on the right wing, and up front for Dirk and Ryan. Speaking of yossi he says he needs more time, or he'll think about leaving..
Yossi Benayoun, who is one of my favorite players for how hard he plays, yet has foot skills *cough cough dirk* Don't get me wrong, I love dirk kuyt he plays hard, he leaves everything on the pitch, but Yossi plays just as hard and scores, see Blackburn match of the weekend, and the guy's got some pace

That is the trouble with any team in any sport that is loaded with talent. You have players who could start almost anywhere else riding the bench. Babel and Benayoun are prime examples.

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

Babel can be amazing but I think he would have been better of moving to Arsenal. Give him 2 years under Arsene Wenger and he is world class.

BTW he started today and scored the important equalizer

Good to see the team getting it going on the offensive end today and to see a lot of the young guys stepping up when given the chance. Even though Keane couldn't find the net once again today, that pass was incredible.

One guy I really wish was still on the team is Crouch. Between the way Keane has been struggling and Torres being injured for so long, and the way he has been looking at Portsmouth, it is looking like a big mistake letting him go. I always liked him and was sad to see him go, but I never thought we would be missing him this badly.

Arsenal looked toothless today, M'boro played pretty well but should have won and were badly denied a penalty. 1-1 Liverpool in 15 min...

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

Rafa must have smoked something he's starting Kuyt as the lone striker... I'd reckon Steven Gerrard is the other striker. I understand keane hasn't been very effective this season, but Kuyt as the lone striker? I'm glad yossi benayoun is getting some time on the pitch.. just a thought, maybe I should pick up Robbie Keane on my fantasy team and then drop him and he'll start to score?

theycallmedan'lboone 12-13-2008 08:27 AM

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

dear GOD! I really think poor Carra has scored more own goals than goals... but the man plays hard, and always comes back. I'd love to see him get one back. put in a DAMN STRIKER!...
GERRARD AGAIN! 2-2

theycallmedan'lboone 12-13-2008 08:54 AM

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

just my 'umble opinion, but from what the official has been calling, hulls first goal, while pretty, constitutes "jumping into another player" and just wasn't called, and was the result of a poorly called foul that was a dive, blatent. the second, poor carra... Gerrard to the rescue, If torres had been fit/playing, I think liverpool would have been up 5-2, as kuyt missed 3 screaming chances. Dossenna, I think needs to go back to Italy, and send Riise back. Liverpool's set piece defending, horrible as usual. Seriously, Torres get better...I love you dirk kuyt, but you're not a very good striker. This game has been pretty physical, and honestly the first half was really enjoying... other than the first 20 minutes.

2nd half is kicking off, Hope it's more exciting for those in Red, pool's pace is seemingly short... especially up top. and in the back..

theycallmedan'lboone 12-13-2008 09:57 AM

Re: The Official Soccer/Football/Futbol/Calcio thr

poor result for liverpool, great result for hull. I do understand that keane hasn't impressed, but dirk kuyt had my incredibly delicate touch today, but still no excuse.

It was expected, we just need to rebuild already. We're cycling to a crap spell, been through it before and it'll happen again.

Maldini is still the man, this guy is totally unbelievable. I'm no big fan of defenders but he is likely my all time favorite player, can't believe he still does what he does at 40.

probably the fact that he's not scoring a lot or that he looks a little on the female side. my best bets anyhow

He's class tho (uh, technique-wise anyhow), gotta give him some time, after Tottenham won the Cup last season and they had absolutely nothing to play for (they couldn't be relegated and their European place finish was determined)... after that point, Ramos let go, they did nothing. Berbatov sat sulking wanting to go to MU since then, perhaps before a little.

A sulk that long takes a bit of time to get over form-wise.

Lesson: smile dammit and get on with things, make the best of where you at

I was excited when United bought him. I thought he could really be a force up front, and would add greatly to the attack looking at last year how much better would have united been with another striker. I guess I figured another big body like Ruud who can actually attack. He is not in great form right now and missing a lot of good chances, hopefully that will come around. But I see him lagging. He disappears for 20 mins or so at a time.

Then I look at when Tevez gets in the game and as I said before the guy just does not stop. He scores big goals, creates and has a motor on him. It would be a real shame to see him as the odd man out for this team.
