I shot Remington at the range today. Can't remember the name of the round, but they were jacketed hollow points. Also they were showing me some that appeared to be like a submunition type of round. Had a weird name like "intense defense" or something like that. Goes right through a barrier as well which I don't like with 4 bedrooms of people in my house.

The hollowpoint was filled with a yellow dot, which reminded me of the Blue Glasers I had used in the 357 mag. Apparantly it's a really nasty round that leaves quite a large hole in the bad guy.

I think a few hollowpoints of any variety hitting critical mass will leave a bad guy wishing he took the day off from being a scumbag.

I believe those are called Critical Defense. In my opinion, they are a new round that does not have a track record yet. I would stick to Federal HST's or Speer Gold Dots. The FBI and most police departments carry Gold Dots.

You are right, shot placement (center mass) is the key and is more important than caliber choice. Does Florida have the Castle Doctrine like Ohio does?

From what I've been reading, there's not much coming out of a handgun that won't go through sheet rock walls.

The Box 'O Truth has some excellent experiments & documentation if you haven't seen it before.

Exactly right, it WAS Critical Defense. I use Federal HST's but will look at the Gold Dots you mention.

Florida has a castle doctrine as well as a car doctrine basically stating a no retreat rule as well as legal right to assume lethal force if anyone enters your house or tries to enter your car. In other words, if someone enters your house or car, shoot. Liberals haven't ruined that.

I should mention the trigger on my Remington 700P in SA .308 sucked as well. I have the fullsize, not the LTR, but the triggers are the same.

Little tuning and it breaks nice and clean now. Little gritty for a single stage trigger, but it does nicely. :tu

Here's a pic of the S&W 38sp I picked up with the Uncle Mike's IWB holster I am using when it's not in my pocket, like when I am on the motorcycle.

I really like this a hell of a lot better than my previous Taurus 357 mag and Kel Tec P11 and should have done this in the first place.....

Funny thing; the guy in the shop asked me if I wanted to see the "best gun in the shop to carry?" I figured he was headed for the Sig Sauers, but he grabbed this gun.

Hey guys, question;

Do you feel there is a big difference in rounds as far as defense is concerned?

I use Remington jacketed hollowpoints both for range and carry lately as I believe they are the same the police use, not that that should be a deciding factor. I guess it's just easier to keep a box of 50 for both.

The new Critical Defense were suggested as they apparantly are not affected by heavy clothing, like leather, which I have heard affects a normal hp round. Elderboy also has me looking at the Gold Dots and made a valid point about the Critical Defense rounds being relatively new and unproven thus far.

Living in Florida, and the cold weather almost gone, I'm not sure if this is a valid concern.

I've said it before, my personal defense has no price tag.

There is a difference between FMJ and JHP. FMJ's can over penetrate. Head on over to ar15.com and click on the handguns tab. There is a forum for ammunition and the have reviews. Basically, Winchester Ranger, Federal HST, Corbon, and Speer Gold Dots are great.

Absolutely.

My personal preference is Speer Gold Dots. For the longest time Federal Hydra-Shocks were "it" to carry. What a lot of people didn't know was the FH-S had a very small velocity range envelope in which the round performed as designed. The Gold Dot's performance envelope is much greater.

I don't have a lot of recommendations on bandoliers. I bought a cheap one from some gun show vendor. I don't think the quality is that great b/c some of the loops are starting to fray.

I just ordered some new rounds to try. Going to give the Hydra-Shok 124 gr +P+ loads a shot in the G19. Also, Hornady TAP 147 gr.

My go to right now is the Winchester Ranger (RA9T), although I'm all out at the moment. They are harder to find.

This is all hypothetical obviously, since I tragically lost all my firearms... obviously. :fu

I can't think of any. Maybe a tactical vest with lots of pockets. Of course, you can carry ammo cans. Hopefully, someone else on here has some ideas.

and here is my latest haul

check out www.cheaperthandirt.com they have all kinds of cool stuff and survival gear.

most I ever carry is an extra speedloader for my 38 sp, which is rare.

I figure if I need more than 5 shots, I am in a gunfight that I should have run from and will likely die from anyway.

Speaking of ammo, has anyone else noticed a big shortage?
I've been trying to find the Speer Gold Dot short barrels for a month with no luck.

Elderboy recommened them and research and talking has proven they are indeed best, although I wasn't really doubting him.

I guess Federal and Speer are the same company, so Federal Hydra Shocks it is until I can find Speers....
