Re: iPhone 5
I have the 4 and was looking at the 5 but don't like the idea of having to replace all my current apple charges........is there a big difference between the 4 & 4S :sh
|
Re: iPhone 5
Between the 4s and 4, there are a couple changes. If you have an upgrade sitting around, and want to move up, get a 4s for $99.

The EU standard has been in place for 2-3 years, and I'd say the trend towards a microUSB standard is around 4-5 years old. The old 30-pin connector, as I think I may have mentioned earlier in this thread, is around 10 years old. I do not know why Apple didn't chose to switch to microUSB, but the switch to something was going to happen regardless, and people would have needed to buy new chargers either way. A smaller connector was needed to clear up room inside the phone and not make it bigger. Unless you only need one charger and don't have any accessories like an iHome or something, Then you don't need to buy anything extra. |
Re: iPhone 5
So who with their new iPhone is keeping it naked versus getting a case?
I've always been anti-cases for phones, but did use the bumpers on the last one because of the entire glass phone. For the 5, however, I'm going back to my old ways. |
Re: iPhone 5
I picked up a bumper for mine rather than a case. I like the bumpers and have not had a problem and they do not add a lot of extra size or heft to the phone.

Re: iPhone 5
Here is an article that somewhat reflects why I don't like a case. However, I wouldn't use as "direct" of language about it (lol) and I don't have the same negative attitude towards people that do use a case, I just don't like them and choose not to.

I have discovered that my iPhone 5 camera is not as good as my wife's 4S camera in low light using the flash. Going to talk to Apple about that next week...

Re: iPhone 5
What's the Value on 4s's right now? I found out this weekend that my Father in law wants my Wife off his plan (Long story why she's on it to begin with). My Sprint contract is almost up, and I had planned on just getting my Wife an iPhone 5... Until this weekend.
So now we're gonna go to Verizon, since I have a chance to get away from the death star aka Sprint. I honestly don't know why I just explained that entire story... :fp |

Gazelle seems to undervalue things by quite a lot, you should almost always be able to get a better price on eBay or Craigslist. I know factory unlocked 16gb iPhone 4's are selling for about $300 in my area.
|
Re: iPhone 5
I need a completely un-biased opinion.
Is it worth it to get the iPhone 5 over the 4s? I mean speed. Is the 4g crazy fast on the 5? |
Re: iPhone 5
The speed is considerably faster, yes. Whether or not its worth upgrading from a 4S is dependent on other things, though. At least in my opinion.
|
Re: iPhone 5
Dependent on what Sir?
|
Re: iPhone 5
Well I'm sure it can be different for different people. If you are happy with the 4S, if you have an upgrade available, why you need or don't need the speed increase, if you want the bigger screen, etc. I just more meant speed may not be the only thing to consider
|
Re: iPhone 5
Yea, I'm only worried about speed really. The bigger screen, etc is all secondary. I want the faster phone is the bottom line.
|
Re: iPhone 5
I had the 4s and did the upgrade since I had it available (bought the 4s off contract on craigslist for $380 this spring). AT&T unlocked it for me and I sold it on craigslist this week for $420. It was the 32GB model though. I think you can get at least $300 for a 16gb and more if yours is 32 or 64gb.
I think it was worth the upgrade, but that's my humble opinion. LTE is so much better than 3g speeds. Things that rarely worked on 3g work like a champ now (Like imessage, the internet, etc.). Additionally, I hit over 30mbps on speedtest.net's app the first week I had it. |

Re: iPhone 5
I notice my i5 is faster than my wife's 4s. Doesn't blow it out of the water but it's pretty noticeable. I finally got a case for it too. I'm loving the phone so far (upgraded from the 4)

Re: iPhone 5
I was on a 21 day backorder from ATT for a black 16g iPhone 5 and found a Sam's Club that that had them so I cancelled my order and walked out with one last night. That was nice as I was planning on sometime near November 5 for expected delivery.
I was a little nervous after some of the "scuffgate" talk on the Mac forums but have been extremely impressed going from my 4 to the 5 and haven't had any issues with scratched back or dinged edges out of the box like some are complaining about and looked it over pretty well before paying. I'll avoid the politics of the conditions in the China factories, but will say I think Apple has their hands full on this release and there are bugs to work out just like every other iPhone release. I'm already looking at tents and air mattresses for the launch of iPhone 6. The map app needs some work, but I use Waze for navigation anyway. I haven't been overly impressed by iOS6 and am thinking an update will be good. The LTE speeds are blazing fast and I put this in a bumper rather than the Otterbox my other was in, so it seems like such a lighter phone. The screen might not be like a Galaxy SIII, but I have an iPad when I want a bigger screen and wouldn't trade this phone for anything currently out there, but that's just me. |
Re: iPhone 5
Ok I need some convincing in getting a 5 over a 4s. I dropped my 4 yesterday and busted up the screen.
I'm leaning towards the 4s in that I have a lot of other devices that have the older 30 pin connector, including a number of charging cables. I keep one in each bag I use for travel. I don't want to have to buy a lot of extra adapters. That's a lot of extra $$$. Also, do the adapters work on an iHome clock radio? Plus, looking on amazon, there's not too many armbands for the 5 that get decent ratings. Since I'd put a Zagg shield on it, most of the armbands with the plastic screen don't work well. At least that's what I found with my 4. Plus it's more money for a new one. I'm also not a heavy data user, so the LTE speeds wouldn't really do much for me. The reason for a 5 is that it's the latest and greatest. Why already buy something that's old tech? And since I plan to switch to Verizon, the monthly charge would be the same whether I got a 4s or 5. |
Re: iPhone 5
Go for the 5... My wife has a 4S and she is envious. The 5 is faster, does LTE right, and the larger screen is handy. Yes, there are a few problems ("purple" haze photo shots, camera flash sync) that are supposed to be fixed in the upcoming software update.
For me, when I am buying something I figure that I will get the latest available as the life expectancy is that much longer. I *know* that I can get two years out of my 5, while I am sure that in the next two years there will be IOS features introduced that will work on the 5 but not on the 4S. |
Re: iPhone 5
I wouldn't let the chargers dissuade you. If you stick with the 4S now, it will not be a savior but a stay of execution. The lightning connector is not going anywhere, so if you are going to stay with Apple, you will have to make the switch at some point. I have a large quantity of 30-pin chargers as well from buying apple products over the course of the 9-10 years the 30-pin was used.
It will be less convenient at first, but you should be able to manage with one adaptor to float around and have an extra charger. I'm doing fine without any adaptors. Plus, you can always wait for some viable third party lightning cables/adaptors to get on the market (maybe they are there already) |
Re: iPhone 5
Wife & I both have the older i4 (not the 4s). Apple email says both our new black/slate 64G i5's are on the way. Woot!

I bought the lightning dock adapter when I ordered some sync cables from Apple. I have an iHome on my nightstand and prefer to just dock it to charge at night. If you use any type of case or bumper, the adapter won't work. I received the adapter in the mail yesterday and I ended up modifying my bumper to make it work. I took a dremel to the bumper and made the hole on the bottom larger. Works fine, but the bottom of the bumper looks a little ugly. I checked to make sure the iPod functions properly, and everything worked just as before. It does make the iPhone sit higher than normal of course. I can snap a pic tonight if you'd like to see what it looks like. |

This whole rollout of the 5 and new accessories has been less than lightning but resistance is futile as they are all going to be using lightning. FWIW, I put a bumper on my iPhone5 and haven't had any scratches, and am convincing myself that I don't put a rubber case around my expensive watch, so I won't on my phone. |

Re: iPhone 5
I picked up a 5 Friday afternoon. A friend called to say a local RadioShack had one in stock, on Verizon too. Score! Gotta say this thing is fast. I put the Zagg shield on it, the new one that doesn't smudge. Gives the screen a matte finish. I like it.

Re: iPhone 5
I wasn't planning on getting the 5, but now i might. My iphone 4 button is really getting on my nerves. Some days I have to hit it 20 times before it works. I have an upgrade in December, but wasn't going to use it. Guess I need to now.

Re: iPhone 5
I got my i5 around Sept. 25th. I love it. I work in the Middle East and had a company meeting in Dubai. I took some great pics with it. I got a good face shot of me in front of Atlantis Dubai. Then another one of Burj Kalifa(The tallest building in the world). Not one of them turned purple on me. I guess I lucked out. So far I haven't had any problems with it. I love that the mini connector can go in any side. It's so much easier to connect that way. My adapter should be waiting for me at home by now. I had some time with it at home and the LTE is great. I also like the voice txt dictation. The 3D view on the GPS is awesome. My wife wants to upgrade from the 4s now! I had the 3GS so it was about time. When the 4s came out I was not happy that it did not come with LTE so I held out. I have an Incipio case it comes with a silicone cover inside of an aluminum back with plastic sides case. The silicone cover leaves plenty of room for connections IMO....Overall I'm very satisfied with it.
